State of the art facility with friendly, knowledgeable staff. A charity worthy of donations, be it blankets, durable quality dog toys.

Foster's provide respite, often to animals that are too young or require medical or rehabilitation before being offered for adoption. The AWL provides all food, consumables, advice and support. Volunteers should have a secure suitability sized yard and be alert to the time, effort and emotional toll.

Entrance is locked outside of opening hours and is about 30m back from

Clean, animals well looked after. Great service at the front desk. Not a huge fan of not being able to readily see the available animals or even get a walk in appointment. I'm sad for the animals that end up getting euthanised due to never getting seen. Quite low staffed at the best of times.

Absolutely brilliant, from the website to the stunning new building in Wingfield. I wouldn't get a pet from anywhere else. Thank you to everyone who helped us adopt our beautiful Mighty Pete today ️

I had an appointment today with the AWL
Which I had booked 24hr prior I received a phone call telling me my kitten I chose to meet had been adopted. Fair enough. But to call them in the morning to see if I wanted to keep my appointment and meet another kitten.
So I rang at 10am like they asked and arranged to meet another kitten who had only just been put on on the website. I asked is anyone else coming down to meet this kitten today I was told no! So I got all excited drove all the way down there filled everything out which I didn’t understand why I had to if I hadn’t adopted anything yet? The lady couldn’t find the kitten? Which took a few minutes to locate? So I got taken upstairs to see a couple up there at the same time to meet the same kitten.
So I got pushed back and they adopted the kitten so I missed out.
As much as I appreciate what they do for the animals. The communication is terrible.
I have recently just lost my Boy of 8 years (cat) and my Girl of 13 years (Dog) So it was a very big step for me today.
Was a very emotional day and to be screwed around like I was was just awful.

To preface this, I love animals and want to help them out as much as possible but IF YOU DONATE TO ANIMAL WELFARE LEAGUE, DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR PERSONAL DETAILS. THEY WILL FOREVER HOUND YOU NUMEROUS TIMES A MONTH WITH CALLS WITH DIFFERENT NUMBERS EVERY TIME. No matter how many numbers I've blocked, they've become another pest caller.

Some people on here are quick to complain about the most trivial things, I went to the AWL at Wingfield on Dec 30 and the staff were fantastic, met the cat I was adopting and she has settled in to her new home with me and my other cat Ava even tho Ava put up a fuss for a few hours.
The staff are very experienced and helpful and they want to make sure that you are the right person for the pet you are adopting so it does take an hour or so to go thru the procedure.
I adopted Barley and she is beautiful and in a few months will go back and adopt another.

Adrian.

I've learnt about fostering an animal, which i didn't know about, so I'm becoming a foster mum

Staff is extremely rude!
One older woman staffer in particular who was at the 'to surrender pet reception' she answered my phone call earlier was very abrasive and did not tell me I needed to make an appointment to come in. When I drove all the way down&brought my pet in, she was the rudest person I've ever seen. She literally argued with me and called me a liar. Shame on you AWL! I will not be returning to AWL or recommending them to anyone ever. You're better off dealing with RSPCA they are much friendlier.

PS: Just wondering AWL, if you have disastrously BAD reviews three months ago and a year ago of public complaints of how rude your staff is, how come you still haven't fixed the problem? All you do is reply with; "please email us for a phone call" when in reality you don't care! SHAMEFULL! If this is how you treat people I'm scared to think how you treat animals!

This place was very morden and clean. Impressive. People at the centre is very passionate about what they are doing. If governments provide some funds, it would be more helpful but at the moment it runa as a private funded organisation. More volunteers are needed for sure.

It's a nice place but in my opinion just a waist of money again. The shelter if for the animals there well being and to find them a new home not shiny seats and glamorous surroundings for the office staff. The animals don't care for that I certainly won't donate any more money to them in principle very poor effort on the humans

I donate to AWL but haven't been to the facility for a while because it's far from where I live. Drove a long way to the renovated facility recently and received no service and rude attitude. Waited and end up leaving. Waste of time if you are interested in adoption here. I feel my donation money just went to the fancy renovation and the rude attitude rather than efforts to rehome animals!

After losing our 2 babies 10 weeks apart in 2019 we really didn't know if we could take on another one.we had had our little boy for 19yrs, he was only 2 when we got him from the AWL and he passed away in his sleep aged 21.we lost our girl 10wks later to cancer.fastforward and our daughter took us to AWL at Edinburgh (now closed) where we fell in love with a gorgeous boy 6mths old and enormous. Our baby boy has brought us so much pleasure, he had a rough start to life but he's getting better. The staff were amazing and I want to thank them for introducing us to our Gus.

This review is a little while coming but we found the AWL just wonderful - Courteous, knowledgeable and only have the dogs (in our case) Sam and his well being at heart - and that is how it should be - Brilliant experience -Highly recommend!
