I took my elderly mum there today
Referred by the age care home doctor
Dr Jack Shannon needs to be taught some manners! He is rude, insensitive, did not act professionally especially when he said don’t need to do anything as she doesn’t have long to live! How dare he! I was in total shock when he stated this. My mother apart for some underlying health issues my mum is relatively good health for her age. What an inappropriate comment to make! This upset me greatly! Thank Goodness mum didn’t understand him and that my husband was not in the room with us!
Paid $200 for verbal rudeness!

I took my elderly mother there for skin cancer treatment. He said “something has to take her out”. He never once spoke directly to Mum. It wax a distressing experience

Had a referral to see doctor Shannon for my skin rash. I had a biopsy at the doctors before hand and the doctor saw the results and agreed on the appointment. When I went in he said he can’t pin point what it would be, suggested that maybe surfers tend to be more conscious of the skin and to use baby oil. Then charged $210. I’m sorry but if you had no idea from the results don’t go ahead with the appointment or mention before hand on the phone that could be the case.

Dr. Shannon has extremely poor bed side manner and shows little compassion. Very arrogant man who emits an unpleasant demeanor. I would not reccomend his service unless you wish to feel like you're wasting his time. Do yourself a favour and find an alternative skin specialist.

Upon my first review of medication with Dr Shannon i advised a possibly side effect that was dismissed. My GP confirmed the side effect is related to the medication 2 days later. I contacted Dr Shannon for a review only days after i had physically seen him. He wanted another full consultation fee. I sent an email asking since i had just seen him a few days ago could we not do a phone consult and not have to pay another $170 so soon. He advised i should seek a second opinion.
Dr Shannon disregarded my side effect the first time and wanted me to pay again for an alternative days later. This is a clear indication of money over patient care.
Both appointments were over half an hour wait time past the appointment time to only be in the consultation room for 5 mins.
The 1 star is for the lovely reception staff.

Drug dealer or Dr, I haven't worked it out yet. Prescribed a drug with severe side effects, I mentioned my concerns when every time I saw Mr Shannon he looked at me and doubled the dose without even having a conversation. When I questioned the side effects, with no explanation Mr Shannon advised me I would be better off seeing someone else, as he could not help me.
I call him Mr and not Dr as I don't feel he deserves that title. Don't waste your time or money see a real Dr the first time.

Update: Mr Shannon's response to my review makes my point as I am not seeing a nautopath.
I was just asking questions based on research I did myself on my condition.
Mr Shannon please take time to talk to your clients and know about their condition before handing out medication.

Do NOT see Jack Shannon.
He does not find the root cause of acne (even though he said he does), instead he simply gives bandaid treatments. One of these treatments includes medication which has a lot of serious side effects, and even my GP told me not to use. So when I went back and said I did not want to take it or use some of the other toxic treatments he prescribed, he told me my thoughts were “wacky” and did not listen to what I had to say at all, obviously he does not take any patient suggestions. He was then very condescending, disrespectful, rude, and arrogant. He wouldn’t give me the time of day, and told me not to come back, and if I ever wanted to see a dermatologist about my acne to go and see another one.
He also took photos without consent.
Waste of money, do not recommend to anyone!
If you’re looking for a dermatologist, please find someone else who will listen to your thoughts and work with you to find a proper root cause and treatment instead

No hesitation in not recommending Dr Shannon for all the reasons stated by others who have been treated poorly by this man.

I was not a patient of Dr Shannon but did work and converse with him for employment. I have never written a review about doctors' nature or character but I feel this need to be said. Dr Shannon told me that I was successful employed after clinic learning and 4 hours of watching his procedures. We talked about pay rates, my availabilities and bookkeeping. I was over the moon and so grateful towards this.
However, 15 minutes after this conversation, he said I was unsuccessful with minimal explanation with no follow-up message or email. This conversation only lasted a few minutes. With the above circumstance, I regard that to be unfair, upsetting and misleading. I believe that Dr Shannon has minimal compassion and is very blunt.

I recently took my elderly mum in to see Dr Shannon, he took a few photos, went away came back in said nothing he can do other than prescribe cream, and then just talked about end of life not rescusitating etc, this was very inappropriate, what if my mum had depression and understood what he was saying, she has dementia and probably forgot straight away but i sat there and felt he shouldnt be saying this. Even other drs and specialists agree with me! And yes $280 for that. How rude and disrespectful!

Dr Shannon was lovely. Kind, straight forward and helpful. He did not suggest I do further tests as he was sure of my diagnosis. A knowledgeable and empathic doctor. His medical assistant as well as the office staff were also very helpful and kind.

Sharing my mixed review. I first saw Dr Shannon about 9 months ago, I found him to be kind, caring and sympathetic. I always left with an action plan and often a follow up text message before my next appointment.
However, with my particular condition I was not getting better, I did express this each visit but was met with a 'wait and see' approach. Eventually I sought a second opinion only to find out I never had to 'suffer' for so long, that the original prescribed medication should have just been doubled and I would have got better quicker. I also never had to go on cytotoxic medications (and give up breastfeeding my 4 week old baby).
As soon as I started the higher medication I was better within weeks.
I only wish Dr Shannon had of realised this earlier so I was not left as physically damaged as I am now and also how I am traumatised by all this whole experience.

Easily overwhelmed. Passive aggressive. Possibly burnt out. Admits to being a sub standard dermatologist. Takes advantage of his lack of competition to pick and choose clients according to their communication style. Either that, or he had a mild tantrum in my single appointment.

Dr Shannon was always receptive to my feelings/feedback in the process of clearing my acne. He was also thoughtful and kind, and included me in the decision-making process each step of the way.

My son has been seeing Dr Shannon for the last 9 months as he had bad acne. As I teenager he was very insecure and worried about his appearance, but dr Shannon reassured hi and prescribed a treatment for him that has helped tremendously.
He has always addressed our concerns and worries, he has always been professional and welcoming.
I have no hesitation recommending him to anyone who needs a skin specialist.
Thank you kindly Dr Shannon

Of all the dermatologists I’ve seen over the years Dr Shannon was easily the worst. He completely dismissed all of my concerns, told me that doing any kind of test would be wasting time (champ all I have with this issue is time) and he was just arrogant and rude. Although my final and only appointment with Dr Shannon was probably over three years ago I want to implore anyone considering Dr Shannon as their Dermatologist to please consider your options in Sydney. It was only until I started looking away from Wollongong that I have been able to get some answers with my chronic skin condition (the guy couldn’t even tell the difference between acne and rosacea? Haha) and although it’s a hassle to get to the city it will at least be worth the consultation fee and you won’t be completely dismissed and sent away feeling like you’ve wasted $280. Dr Burcu Kim at Quayside specialists is an amazing dermatologist and I couldn’t recommend her more.

My son has been seeing Dr Shannon for the last 9 months and I have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone who needs a skin specialist.
My son had a pretty bad acne and as a teenager he was very insecure about his appearance… Dr Shannon prescribed the right medication for him, always listened to our concerns and provided valuable feedback. His acne is under control and his skin looks amazing considering.

Yes the visits are not very long and they are costly but they are no different to any other specialist visits in any field.
Thank you Dr Shannon

Whilst I can’t comment on dr Shannon professional status, I definitely can say what a horrible human with a disturbing lack of compassion! Under different circumstances I would of spat on him

Went for a consult today, and like many of the 1 star reviews I am now reading, I was also dismissed and told “we were not a match”. Fair enough, perhaps we were not, but I found Dr Shannon to be condescending and rude. I paid $280 for a consult that barely lasted 2 minutes! What on earth? ! Also my referral letter clearly stated what I wanted/needed, if this is not something that Dr Shannon could help with why was I given an appointment?
Like someone else has mentioned, this 1 star is for the friendly reception staff. 0 stars for Dr Shannon. I will never step foot into his practice again. I left extremely disappointed and upset with how I was spoken to.
Go elsewhere people, to someone who actually cares.
