Ovolo 1888 Darling Harbour

Nice looking hotel with interesting architecture retrofit in bones of the old Woolstore. Service isn’t up to the same standard unfortunately. If you’re ok with paying a lot for just aesthetics, go for it. If service is important to you, reconsider.

Also - noticed my first review was removed by management? I’ll keep reviewing - a personal call or email to enquire about why I’m rating 3 stars and then working to solve the issue internally for future guests would be more appropriate than trying to hide a review from the world about reality of your service, one would have thought.

Apart from the heritage site and cosy looking bar/lobby, the rooms were overated.

Our room was located on the ground floor and smaller than expected. Bed was too soft compared to that of Hyatt Regency and the AC could not be fully controlled from inside the room and we had to leave it on for the whole night.

Toilet flush bottoms were located in a such akwad position where you had to close the lid before you can flush it: very very annoying.

Was amazed as to how stunning the lobby is, the design and lighting creating a nice chill mood. The staff were great and happy and fulfilled our request which made our stay x100 better will definitely be coming back again!

Our favourite spot to stay in Sydney, close to everything & has a real history to the old woolstore conversion. Lots of little extras included too.

I was so disspaointed in our stay. We usually love Ovolo hotels but our experience at The Woolstore 1888 was definitely on the lower end. The King room was cramped and noisey, with no natural light. Staff were unable to help with any of our requests (early check-in, late check-out, bathroom supplies and an issue with the TV in our room). The reception area and bar are beautiful but it's a shame the same can't be said for the rooms and the experience.

Good location, small boutique hotel, servi e was good and good atmosphere- only aspect that is negative is that the rooms are a little small but very well done and compact

Location is easy to find with darling harbour only a walk away with plenty of restaurants etc.look of the hotel is beautiful.i did a 2 night stay with my little furbaby and therefore had to purchase the vipooch package.stayed in the king deluxe room.vipooch package includes a bag of treats, food/water bowls, bed, and toys for their stay.definitely book directly with ovolo because one of the main things that made my decision to book the stay is their perks (can only be obtained if its a direct booking) - this includes complimentary continental breakfast, you get a bag of treats (they have a mini candy bar too that you can help yourself to), social (happy) hour, and free mini bar (gets topped up everyday).

staff were incredibly nice and so thoughtful.the receptionist noticed my birthday and on my 2nd day, a staff member surprised me with a card and little bouquet of treats! So sweet!

love the atmosphere of the hotel, it feels very warm and inviting.was very happy with the room, it was clean and had a more unqiue/edgy style.bed was comfortable.bathroom was great.i was super cozy.they had an amazon alexa smart device, and a big tv with apple tv also available to watch.some downsides experienced; their in room service was only available on certain days - this should be advised on the website as i personally had intended to order room service for my entire stay (apologies if it is mentioned on your site but i don't believe i came across it). Before i made the booking i called to check if their menu catered to a vegan diet and i was told that they did but their in room service menu only had 1 vegan option.a coconut ice-cream.the dine in menu i believe only had 1 item, maybe 2 and from what i remember weren't substantial (ie, could have been a side dish). It was certainly lucky that darling harbour is close by as well as a small and super convenient iga.continental breakfast didn't have any signs about what was on offer (im used to hotels at least having place cards to say what the food is) so instead just asked what of the bread/baked goods were vegan and the waiter said he was unsure but then said with uncertainty that he "thinks" it should all be vegan instead of just checking with the kitchen.it's okay if you don't know, but have the respect to double check.didn't want to ask about everything after that, so just resorted to what was obviously vegan friendly.so unfortunately didn't totally make the most of this perk.if you're staying with your pet, they state that your pet can't be in the dining area (understandable) but immediately this would write off the social (happy) hour and complimentary breakfast perks (especially when its raining and you can't sit outside) which is why i think it'd be great to see an improvement/tweak on the vipooch package.i will say that on one day of my stay, they did allow me to sit in an area away from the main dining with my pet so that was very kind - i think it would be helpful considering they are a pet friendly hotel to permanently have a pet friendly section since pets can't be left in the rooms on their own for any amount of time.there aren't too many pet friendly hotels so this was certainly a treat! And i did overall very much enjoy my stay and will be coming back for sure.i would love to see further improvement on the menu and maybe a review on the vipooch package so that those staying with pets can also take advantage of all the awesome perks in a suitable way.

I have to say for a small hotel the attention to detail and attentive staff was amazing. They include a free mini bar which is topped up daily and includes lager, wine, red bull and coke. There was also a bag of crisps and chocolates waiting in the room.
The hotel is steeped in history and I love how it has been maintained, the lovely old rustic beams and the timber floor.
The location is excellent being a couple of streets back from the harbour.

Was impressed with the lobby walking in. Nice moody lighting, bar and mismatched lounges and the lolly bar. Such a friendly welcome from Troy and Rose.
We were upgraded to the split level loft room as our room was affected by the heavy rain recently. Had a lovely birthday surprise when we entered.
Room was clean and great amenities including free mini bar and a goody bag. Bed was very comfortable and good shower pressure.
Free drink at social hour and then we were given a tasty toasted cheese sandwich to go with our wines, we also tried some nice cocktails.
The continental breakfast was also a good way to start the day with a variety of musli, breads, spreads and few other items.
Location is great within walking distance to what the city has to offer or the light rail.
Would definitely stay again.

The staff from the minute we walked in, were just delightful. From the manager to reception. The bar manager, the waiter and waitress were just so helpful and friendly. The cleaners, especially Ash went out of his way to accomodate us. It was a beautiful luxurious trendy hotel. Incredibly comfortable beds. Thankyou Ovolo 1888
The only thing i could suggest is they could keep the dogs out of the dining area, as it was off putting with the smell of the dogs. There were two in a small area

Fantastic Experience!

A great vibe around the hotel. The staff were all very welcoming, polite and helpful. The spaces are really comfortable and there are some quirky additions that make the stay memorable. The kids won't forget the lolly bar in a hurry and the welcome gift was a special touch.

There is a lovely spread for breakfast which is included daily. The drinks menu is bloody solid and the grub in Mr Percy's is frickin' amazing.

Thanks Ovolo, we'll see ya's again.

Chef makes the best food, the rooms are so clean and are very quirky and cute!

We had the most wonderful time at Ovolo. It has everything that you'd expect from a good city hotel (central location / clean / comfortable / good aircon / quiet rooms). However what makes it truly great is its staff. They were all super friendly, caring and accommodating people, and they went above and beyond to make our stay as lovely as possible! They wrote us a lovely message on the mirror one night, gave us free beers, let us use the shower - after checking out - before our flight back to Melbourne etc. We'll be definitely back next time we're in Sydney! The stay here was absolutely excellent staff were really friendly especially coco front of house staff member she was really helpful and informative room was lovely loved the old and new feeling and design of the building and coco even checked up on us at breakfast to see how we are going definitely recommend staying here also it is close walking distance to darling harbour, maritime museum and the Star casino

Wonderful hotel. Great facilities and staff. And truly pet friendly! Highly recommend for good value for money and a great night sleep.

We enjoyed our 2 night stay in a king room. The hotel had a good vibe and lovely restaurant/bar in the foyer with a decent breakfast. The minibar inclusion was fun. The ‘Social Hour’ downstairs at Mister Percy was a good concept, we found it quite funny though as the ‘snack’ provided each night was for 1 person not 2. We had to awkwardly share a tiny little soft taco one night and a little bao bun the next. I think probably best to either forget the snack altogether or make it per person so you’re not left with a stingy experience.
We were disturbed by a 4am fire alarm on our second night and had to fumble our way down the fire escape- maybe it was our semi-awake state but it wasn’t that easy to find the way out! We ended up at a couple of dead ends and were happy it wasn’t a real fire! So it wasn’t the most relaxing stay. We were told this was due to someone having a hot shower and the steam set off the alarm which for a hotel with lots of hot showers and steam seems like a bit of a problem! Maybe something to address. All in all a nice stay with a few hiccups.

Small rooms but given the low price and great location I have no complaints. Lots of lovely extras from free mini bar to jelly beans and fruit infused water at reception. Bar area has great atmosphere. Beautiful bathroom.
