Over-hyped over-rated. People there probably haven nowhere else to visit. Very noisy restaurant and people were constantly talking above one another. Tiny table tiny space. The food was pathetic for the prices. Told us what we ordered was really 'light' and yet we could not finish our food. The soy fried rice was soy salty and disgusting, nothing much in the rice with a sunny side up on top. Nothing impressive about the interior. Usually lots of food photos would have been taken but not this one. Been to way better places with way better food and prices. First and last time visiting.

We've been here before but we recently booked this again for our wedding reception and I cannot praise this restaurant enough. The food was amazing and the staff were extremely accommodating throughout this whole process before the day and on the day.
Thank you for welcoming us and myself and (now) my wife are looking forward to coming back!

We were a table of 4 came in for a late dinner. Great vibes and the dining room has a very welcoming and cozy feel. The service staff were friendly and knowledgeable in terms of the menu offerings. We went with the $90+ set menu. Food in terms of taste and quality was absolutely amazing. We had ordered half a dozen of oysters which never arrived to our table though. Good portion sizes. Amazing sticky date pudding towards the end. Overall a nice vibe. Would surely return some day.

What a beautiful place and what a beautiful night! I have been meaning to try it few times when in Sydney and finally tonight I enjoyed a wonderful dining experience by myself. The food was incredible, the negroni with Japanese twist too:) and the black sesame mochi icecream that was recommended by the manager was extraordinary can’t wait to be back, the service was incredibly kind and sweet too! Thank you guys for a beautiful night! Alessandra

Cho Cho San, a hidden gem in the heart of the city, left a lasting impression on my second visit. This restaurant boasts a unique fusion concept that combines traditional Japanese flavors with innovative twists. Upon stepping inside, I was instantly drawn to the warm and inviting atmosphere that sets the perfect tone for an enjoyable dining experience.

The restaurant's vibrant ambiance made it a great spot to catch up with friends over a delightful meal. Although the noise level was slightly elevated, it didn't detract from the overall experience. In fact, the lively chatter added to the restaurant's charm, making it feel like a bustling Japanese Izakaya.

The menu presented an array of tantalizing options, but what truly stood out were the kingfish sashimi and the black sesame ice cream block, both featuring unique fusion sauces. The kingfish sashimi, in particular, was a delightful explosion of flavors on the palate, blending the freshness of the fish with a zesty and innovative sauce. The black sesame ice cream block was a perfect finish to the meal, with its creamy texture and nutty undertones.

What I appreciated most about Cho Cho San was its ability to strike a balance between an intimate dining experience and a lively social setting. The atmosphere fostered genuine interactions among diners, making it easy to engage in conversations while savoring the delectable dishes.

As I look forward to multiple future visits, I can confidently recommend Cho Cho San to anyone seeking a distinctive fusion dining experience. Whether you're a fan of Japanese cuisine or simply curious to explore innovative flavors, this restaurant promises a memorable culinary adventure that celebrates the best of both worlds. So, next time you're in the mood for an extraordinary dining experience, be sure to venture into the delightful world of Cho Cho San.

Very happy to have discovered this fantastic restaurant! The food is so beautifully prepared and presented, delicious fresh and interesting flavours - the sushi was a standout (gorgeous in look and taste) as were the chicken gyoza (amazing). We were welcomed with such friendly and helpful service (thankyou Michelle), enjoyed our excellent wines (recommended Japanese pinot gris was superb) and even though it was very busy, we felt comfortable with the buzz (not too loud) and appreciated the personalised attention - it was so pleasant that every staff member delivered dishes with a smile. Top experience and highly recommend!

I already had high expectations for Cho Cho San from friends who have visited previously. Even with these high expectations, I was still blown away! The pork katsu bun was definitely the highlight of the night! The customer service was also great! Our waitress was amazing and accommodating. I wish I was able to catch her name to give her some recognition. Would definitely come back!

The service was decent, but it can’t outdo the bad food. I ordered the izakaya set menu for my table of 5.

The food was not worth the price at all. The edamame was too salty. The noodles were too salty and had a strange taste. The pudding was questionable and we only got 2 mochi ice cream blocks to share between 5 people. The only decent foods apart of that set menu were the sashimi platter and the tonkatsu. However, the amount of food shared between 5 people was not worth the money at all and frankly quite a rip off.

Ordered the feast menu and the first few dishes were delicious setting our hopes high for the rest of the menu however, the prawns, crab fried rice and charcoal chicken were all sub par. The prawns were abit greasy and heavy, and charcoal chicken had little meat and maybe might have been a bit raw as it was very chewy.

Delicious food, been here a few times & it's always consistent & has quickly become one of my favourite places to dine at. However, the service can be hit and miss.

Food was sensational- stand outs the Miso eggplant skewers, the ponsu tuna, and the crab XO rice. Staff were relaxed and knowledgeable- we did a late lunch on Christmas Eve and it was a real treat. I would highly recommend.

Food was good but they couldn’t accommodate my pregnant partner so we slogged it out at the bar - very cramped and nervous about COVID. Wouldn’t recommend.

Never had such a bad experience at a $$$ restaurant. All if not most have amazing and friendly service. At cho cho san, it was comically difficult to get any attention from the staff and they were either unfriendly or blatantly rude. It looked like it was understaffed for a Friday night but that is unacceptable for a restaurant to charge $71 for insufficient, inattentive and rude service.

Food: I've chosen this restaurant due to its high praise around its quility of food. And to much of my surprise, it severely underperformed. Besides the ocean trout and eggplant nothing is worth mentioning. I would not recommend trying the izakaya menu at all nor the xo crab fried rice and gyozas. Set menus are also required for larger groups.

Drinks: I tried the Yuzu martini, that was quite lovely being both sweet and strong.

Atmosphere: there was loud music, limited sound insolation having loud groups completely fill up the restaurant quickly. And high volume of guest crammed into a small space. Would not recommend for groups nor dates.

It was a ramen special that lured me back to Cho Cho San and I’m glad it did. Delicious and a slightly different take to “standard ramen”. Thoroughly recommend if you can grab one before they go…

Used to be one of my favourite restaurants but my most recent experience has me vowing to avoid this place.

Attended the restaurant around 6pm on Friday, 24 June (we had a booking) with my boyfriend for my 25th birthday celebrations with plans to enjoy and splurge on our favourite dishes. Was scoffed at and given attitude from a white, male waiter when attempting to order two servings of the wagyu (my boyfriend and I love this dish and wanted a plate each) and pressured out of our order with the waiter snapping, “I don’t know if you’ve ever been here before, but people usually order to share. ”

Was again subsequently scoffed and laughed at when we decided to try one serving each of the two types of fried rice and again scoffed at when asking for an extra five minutes to choose our drinks.

This waiter made us feel bullied, judged, uncomfortable and ruined the mood, resulting in us deciding not to order drinks at all and order significantly less food than we had wanted to so we could promptly leave.

The wagyu was also chewy and overdone.

Not sure staff like this are great for your bottom line when they’re bullying patrons out of ordering some of your most expensive menu items and dishes generally.

Neither of us are white-passing or from the Potts Point area so I’d hate to think this was a case of blatant discrimination/snobbery. Otherwise, my opinion of this place has gone down the drain.

Ambiance was, comfortable but romantic enough.
The food is more of a western interpretation of Japanese food. The teriyaki fish collars surprised us with its flavour and turned out to be our favourite for the night.
