RAC Karri Valley Resort reviews
79 We stayed at KVR for the weekend just gone, the manager at reception area was very friendly and accommodating.
Damien in the restaurant dealt with a walk in group of 8 of us under an immense amount pressure as they were understaffed but handled it professionally.we were seated within an hour after a birthday cocktail he had made for me, the food was delicious and came out quite quickly.
Thankyou for your hospitality guys it was a great weekend.
The location, views, stunning southern WA scenery make this place. Unfortunately though we are not impressed with the restaurant that should be top notch, given its setting and what looks like a decent menu. In reality the food was poor quality for high prices, and portions very small. The service wasn’t very attentive either. The thing that really was annoying though was when it came to closing time when all kitchen, waiting staff seemed to gather for an after work drink and catch up out the back, which is fine but I’m writing this review now as there is simply no consideration for guests staying near to the restaurant. Far too loud and disrespectful. And that is 2 nights on the trot. No relaxation here! Can’t get enough sleep. This should not be happening after paying what are considerably high prices to book here. Won’t be booking here again, which is a shame as it’s got massive potential. Anyone looking to book.steer clear of chalet 12!
Gutted!
Amazing location! Lake view rooms - noisy.you can hear neighbors tvs, talking, there concrete walking shoes at 3am.
Beds are comfy and new, if you want to get a good nights sleep - book a chalet.
The restaurant - such a crying shame it has the potential to be something amazing. However- understaffed, all the windows were filthy, don’t think they own a broom here. We had multiple occasions of chasing up food, water, drinks, cutlery
Happy hour - no bar snacks, cheese boards - what the!? When we asked if we were could get something to eat before dinner we got a bowl of chips (13 in total) for a party of 7 people
On our second night we ate in our rooms it was much better.
Would I stay here again. No.
Lakeside Restaurant service was appalling and so disappointing after having booked three weeks in advance only to arrive in time for our booking and have three walk ins seated before us. We waited over half an hour to be seated after our booking time. To follow we were squashed into a corner only to have over cooked steak served. This may have been ok deal with except for our second night stay we were not able to be fitted in for a booking and was offered take away option. We were happy with that - ordered and told a half hour wait. 1.5 hours after placing our dinner order rang to see how much longer it would be, to be told the order was not put through! All of this could have been avoided by the front of house managing a restaurant not a sh*t show. Just not up to standard for a ‘resort’. The front of house management of the restaurant put a real dampener on our stay. The things we didn’t pay for were exceptional - the waterfall, bushwalk, views and nature! I just hope RAC re-evaluates who is managing the restaurant, table sittings and service.
This place is magic. What a perfect location to relax or to do activities like hike, bike ride or water sports. The misty lake is a bit special too
Facilities and location are lovely, what a shame that the service was a let down in the restaurant. This could be easily remedied by simply having more staff on the floor, so that customers/guests don’t have to get up to get their own cutlery from other tables, get water; we even had to go and get the menu from the front to look at desserts.
I've always wanted to go friend send it was nice
I like the look of the lake and I hope I can stand paddle on it with my wife after she recovers from here op
See you soon Karri
We cancelled our Bali trip and decided to support the southern tourism spots instead. We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 day lakeside stay! The location is just spectacular, the rooms very tidy, the meals were superb every night (well done chef!). Plus lovely wine and friendly staff. During the day there was so much to do & it was so peaceful. (although we wouldn't like to be there during the busy season). The only negative would be on the balcony you can hear your neighbours conversations so a little lack of privacy which was disappointing but we will definately be returning for more of the same R & R! Thku KVR!
Whats not to dislike!
We stayed for two nights. Our room was clean and comfortable, and the view from the balcony was outstanding.
We ate in the restaurant for both nights and thought it was well priced and delicious - have the trout. Yum!
The staff were super friendly without being over the top. We even had a letter delivered, warning us of a fire burn in the forest, and that we would be welcomed to change our stay if we felt unsafe. We stayed.
The scenery around the lake, and the falls was beautiful despite a trickle of water, and I just loved kayaking around the lake.
Really, really relaxing couple of days and thoroughly recommended.

Beautiful views of the lake from our chalet and the restaurant. Lots of close bush walks and kayaking, paddle boarding and swimming in the lake. Very relaxing
Could easily spend a whole week with the family and not move from the awesome surrounding wood land, great activities for the kids like fishing kayaking and bike rides.
Location by the lake was amazing, everything including activity center would shut by 5/6pm so that wasn't as great. But had a nice time.
Stayed 4 nights at the Lakeside room.
PROs:
Stunning location. Staff were very friendly and service was good. A good range of activities and not too expensive. Rooms have been recently freshened up and are clean and comfortable.
CONs:
Biggest disappointment was hearing people moving about/talking in the room above us, hearing their TV and people walking passed the room on the wooden boardwalk. If you are a light sleeper and are looking for somewhere to recharge your batteries - and sleep in - you might find this annoying so perhaps try the cabins.
Restaurant was hit and miss with the food. Some of the food was lovely (homemade icecream, fish and chips), but each time we went there, there was at least 1 dish that wasn't enjoyable (sorbets were like a super sweet slushy and melting too quickly).
We also bought a voucher online for a hot buffet breakfast but it wasn't available when we were there. The a la carte breakfast was still good.
We would stay here again but most likely choose a cabin next time.
Stayed for 3 nights. Accommodation has been recently upgraded and is very comfortable. Restaurant has good food and it over looks the lake which has fantastic views. There are heaps of activities, swimming, kayaking, paddle boat, bush walikng trails, fishing for trout and marron. Our 2 kids did not want to leave.
I ate at the restaurant with my partner his trout was very good and I ordered it specially baked and instead received a smoked trout without being told
Very peaceful and beautiful scenery. Good amenities and in the centre of everything that is South Western Australia.
Truly gorgeous place located in the forrest. Rooms are large and well appointed. The rooms right in the lake are just wonderfully positioned.
Highly recommend
Beware: very different to photos on web, you will be disappointed. Lake is the only redeeming point. Incredibly poorly kept property, messy, very old and run down, rusted posts & signs, buildings in need of repair, rooms very basic and toilet is only two steps to fridge and coffee making facilities which is in the bathroom. Quite odd and we felt very unhygienic. Restaurant looks good inside but not restaurant quality fish & chips plus very small portion and they also missed serving our sides. We then didnt bother trying dessert. Poor service from staff overall topped it all off. We felt we really wasted money. Left early but management were not too bothered by our disappointment, they were quite condescending when discussing the issues. Do not book!
Pros - nice area, the accommodation is nice but not as stated. The restaurant staff and the food were good.
Cons - false advertising on the website. It states that the cabins have aircon, a BBQ and washing machines. It has no aircon and there was one communal BBQ along the lake and a laundry room. When we contacted reception because we had no water (and were not informed that maintenance had switched it off) we also asked where these things were, they just said “oh yeah, we need to update the website”. We also had to call reception from our mobile as the phones were down. Also no spare bedding or tissues.
It’s a nice place but not as advertised and very overpriced. Definitely shouldn’t be classified as a “resort”.
