Chapels on Whatley reviews
77 I have never been more disappointed in a cafe in my entire life. Earlier this week I spent a wonderful couple of hours at Chapels, being waited on with kindness and heart by the fantastic wait staff (I couldn't wait to return)!
Then today, DISASTER!
And it's all because of the owner.
My partner's meal had toast in it, after he had started, it was very apparent that the bread was soggy and undercooked (confirmed by the waitress). We simply asked for a refund on the one item as we had to leave and didn't have time for a replacement meal.
After 10 minutes the owner took it upon him self to berate us for asking for a refund and told us to "never come back. " You can imagine my shock after the wonderful experience earlier in the week.
The most disgusting part was, when I mentioned we struggled with sensory issues with food he laughed at us and didn't care at all. Anyone with neuro-diversity or disability should avoid this place at all costs, unless you feel like being treated like a second hand citizen.
You've been warned! Stay away if you want to be treated like an actual human being.
(can't wait for the owner to berate me again in response to this)
check out the Facebook and Trip Advisor reviews, this is repeat offender.
First ever visit to this amazing shop and cafe. Breakfast was enjoyed by family, Black rice with summer fruits, pancakes, scrambled eggs.
Very cozy atmosphere, something I really missed ever since leaving Europe. It’s quite, warm, lovely in here. Mango tea was exceptional and the cheesecake was also very good.
Will come here again.
Such a nice place, lovely servers, everyone there was helpful, prompt and attentive and very friendly, they accommodated my dog with a rug and a water bowl.
The atmosphere is lovely, such gorgeous decorations.
The tea was great value and they had such a beautiful wide range and everyone there had good advice when picking teas.
I’m not local and I wish I could go back and spend more in that lovely shop, my mum especially loved the tea sample I gifted her after visiting.
I've visited chapels many times, they are always welcoming and fit us in without a booking (most we've had was 5 people), the food is always great and the service quick and friendly.
Definitely recommend if you love you're tea, they do all you can drink tea for 2 hours for a very reasonable price.
Shared High Tea here with my family last Wednesday and was suitably impressed. The ambience is superb and the staff are busy but always friendly. Definitely recommend!
Awesome experience! The high tea was enjoyable and there was a live band. We were able to replace the teas as many times as we wanted with the set menu. Highly recommended. The staff were friendly and helpful!
Excellent service, super friendly staff, great selection of teas and tea knowledge. Incredible food, lovely atmosphere and great mix of European and Asian flair. Will be back!
Lunch, did not sample the teas whcih I beleive are beautiful. A very limited menu for lunch with a small range of options. 3 of us settled on a duck and orange salad, which were very salty ananother guest on another dish which was very dry (over cooked?). We mentioned this when one of the wait staff collected the plates (after they had sat there for quite some time, but they were quite busy). Her response was 'oh we have a new person in the kitchen'. So? ! We paid $27 for a mediocre salty salad so the new cook can learn? Another staff member, very bright and bubbly and helpful came to offer coffee etc and we mentioned again, and suggested that blaming 'the new kid' was not a good response to customers. She said 'oh sorry, yes thats right' and that was that. The salad was most definitely not worth $27, tiny, ordinary and salty to boot. Coffee was not particularly good either. I think they were understaffed, or not expecting to be busy but reading some of the other reviews, this sort of unreliable service is not unusual. Its a real shame as it a great little spot in a good location, a gorgeous venue with a ton of character, wasted with average food, and a laissez faire approach.its almost as if they don't expect you to come back!
Some advice. Look after your customers, provide excellent food and service, and people will flood back! Running a restaurant/cafe etc having to constantly attract new business is a tough gig!
Great friendly staff, but the coffee is terrible.unfortunately I could here the owner trying to explain how to make the coffee to the lady, but there service was.
Fantastic place! 100s of tea offerings and the food is of a high quality. Beautiful authentic Chinese shop hidden out the back. All in all - a magical little place for a coffee or a high tea fit for a king or queen!
Another gorgeous Sunday brunch. Coffee served on arrival, savoury duck crepes and crispy greens, scrambled eggs and fresh cold juices. Another winning brunch!
From the moment you walk in you are transported to another world. This Asian influenced "tea house" you can't call it anything else, will delight you with its array of teas and delicious food. We had the fig and pork summer salad, the mantou buns were to die for. We cannot wait to go back and sample more from their extensive and very inviting menu. An added bonus was the live music from a musical legend. Mr Ashley Arbuckle serenaded us as we enjoyed our meal. So if you love music, high teas, wine and a restaurant that offers more than just food, I highly recommend Chapels on Whatley. Make sure you say hello to the attractive waiter with the grey beard, I mean the blonde beard.
Incredible place and a must do in Perth for locals or tourists, the owner is a tea connoisseur and so friendly and approachable. I try bring as many friends and family to Chapels as possible. Couldn't think of a better tea house in the hemisphere.
A great range of teas and tea wares.
Staff come across as being a bit overly relaxed (one energetic female server was really helpful though). And the food (booked high tea) was lack luster. Everything tasted a little stale. The macarons went rock solid and inedible after 30mins, no I'm not overstating it. I feel its because they pre-made all high tea foods in advance - possibly days in advance.
I love this place! Amazing range tea mostly but they serve coffee as well. The ambiance is lovely as well. The menu has so many great meal options too.
Fantastic on all levels. Great food, drinks, service and staff. 99/100 only as I cannot give 100/100
The best service, food and frozen daiquiris. I'm also obsessed with the two owners - non-stop laughs! It's so much more than a tea house!
Very nice food and the ambience created inside the restaurant is really special, once inside it is another world. Extremely peaceful place to be. Downsides were inattentive service staff, we gave up on another round of drinks because none of them made eye contact and plates remained uncleared, also the chairs and tables are uncomfortable. Decorative but completely impractical because you can't get your legs under the table.
Chappls on Whatley is a charming and interesting cafe with great service and lovely things for sale aswell. Will definitely go back to experience more.
