The Stables of Como Cafe reviews
80During lockdown we have been going here every other day for our coffee and sometimes a treat. Coffee is always great and the baristas know our puppy by name and aren't mad when he comes inside for a little explore! Can't wait for it to be open to try out full fledge breakfast but great to see they have been covid safe during the whole lockdown and supplying much needed coffee!
A great cafe tucked in the middle of the gardens, the food is gorgeous and the home made cakes are to die for. This is a must to visit on multiple occasions and very popular on the weekends so what are you waiting for
Service was good, food was just ok. The only issue we had was the noise level in the venue, unfortunately we could not talk as we couldn't hear each other.
Nestled in the historic grounds of the grand Como House, eat à la Française on the patio or in the quaint and authentic stables. Charming and delicious.
I used to love this place when it first opened. Great ambience, beautiful surroundings and amazing food. Can’t say the same thing today, food was nothing spectacular and possibly disappointing if I’m being honest. Overpowering mustard in my Reuben croissant but the servers were so lovely that I feel almost terrible sending it back. However there’s still so much potential in this place and I would give them a second chance if their menu changes.
The place is absolutely beautiful, however our dining experience was not the best.
I took mum for a lovely lunch last Sunday and it turned out to be the worst lunch.
Firstly they did not have our booking; luckily there was a table available.
Secondly, our table was in the middle of a party and people was extremely loud that could not have a conversation with my mum.
Lastly the customer service was very poor. It seems the staff gave service priority to the party, and totally neglected us. We were not given a menu or water until I asked for it.
The food not the best, the porthouse steak very dry and not tender at all. It seems that the high tea would be a better choice.
This is not what I booked. I booked the special lunch that includes two courses and drink; however they claimed they did not have our booking, even though I received the confirmation email.
The good thing is that one of the staff members did apologised for the inconvenience caused and provided complimentary drinks and scones to take home. It was great that they acknowledged that we were treated very poorly.
I would not recommend this place for booking of less than 3 people. The room is not big enough to accomodate high tea parties as well as single tables. The seatings space is taken by the high tea parties, and it gets very loud.
I would suggest to Management to consider different seating arrangements for smaller groups to avoid inconvenience to the rest of the customers.
Also to train staff to provide better customer service, we had 3 staff members attending and did not communicate to each other. It should have been one waitress allocated to a specific table.
It is a pity that we had a bad dining experience in a such beautiful place
Good service, very good coffee. Nutella got chocolate got the thumbs up from my 11 year old. Prices reasonable for the area. Stands on its own, doesn't take advantage of the Como visitors. Pain au chocolat served on fancy clipboard!
Great place to kick back with friend and enjoy bfast or lunch. Food is excellent and accommodates my diet restrictions. Down side: there is a hive of wasps who like to buzz around while sitting in the outside area. Stonnington council can eliminate them I'm told.
Food was lovely and it was the perfect day for lunch outside. Unfortunately one of the servers was a misery each time she came over and made a few snide remarks which was just weird. The food took ages and aweful staff brings a 4 star down to a 2.
This is my first review so bear with me.
After my experience with the cafe, i'm extremely dissapointed. Not only was the food overly expensive, it was not worth it's price at all. The manager, was exceptionally rude, and the environment was the cafe was almost unbearable. Loud, bad music, the area was small, layout was terrible, i could go on. Not to mention the bathrooms, which where one of the most disgusting bathrooms I've ever seen. I'd advise not to come here. Such an awful experience, never stepping foot here ever again.
Beautiful surroundings and great food. Food was slow to come out but it was busy on the weekend. There is a weekend surcharge so would recommend going during the week. I would have given a 5 star rating if it weren't for one of the staff. The majority of the staff were lovely- friendly and professional unfortunately one of our servers seemed quite unhappy (looked miserable and was quite grumpy taking our order) once we finished our meals the server actually threw a small tray with our bill on the table rather than placing it. We felt like the server wanted us to leave (we understand weekends are busy and we would have been happy to leave earlier if our food came out sooner!)
The menu has a good variety of options and it is nice to see a childrens menu. This place is nice if you have children especially the outside tables. It is a good idea to make a booking.
Delicious freshly made scones and great coffee served while you sit in a beautiful cafe. Loved it
Breakfast food and atmosphere were lovely, however service was disappointing. We had to wait over an hour for 3 meals. Was also told 45minutes after waiting that the dish I ordered was not available.
Good food, service and prices. But you really should make your reservations using the website. Also the famous High Tea & Guy Tea requires booking the day before. This way, you won't be disappointed.
I don’t usually like to leave negative reviews however after having spent an afternoon with family for afternoon high tea I am so disappointed in this establishment.
There was minimal customer service and inter interaction. The food was underwhelming and vastly overpriced for $65 pp.
Very disappointed. Hopefully management takes aboard feedback and improves on customer service and food.
Very nice, but very busy. Even with a booking we had to wait some time for our table and the crowds certainly took away from the pleasure of the place. Food and coffee were excellent though. So book ahead and steer clear of Sunday mornings.
Extremely horrible and horrendous customer experience! Waitresses and waiters and manager were rude! Will never go there again! Please consider twice before going there!
When we made booking, they didn’t mention that we only have 90 mins to finish our meal. But when we actually arrived, they immediately urgent us to order and finish as early as we can because they were having a function as well. So I could say they take other customers more importantly than us!
They had to take care of others before us!
That’s not the end. They kept push us to finish quickly during our meal. We complained to the manager, no surprise, the manager came to argue with us saying we only had 90mins to finish. Now we could see why their waiters and waitresses were so rude to customers. At the end, when we cut a cake they didnt even give us a knife to cut it. Later when one of the waitresses felt we were too slow cutting the cake, she finally got the knife out and cut it for us so we could finish earlier!
More importantly, the foods were horrible. Food presentation and dressing were terrible!
Worst customer service in Australia I even had.
Strangely relaxing despite how busy it was. The grounds are immaculately maintained. The staff are cheerful, friendly and helpful.
The only redeeming quality about The Stables is the undeniably quaint setting. However, everything else is exceptionally average. We were waited on by a bit of a twerp with an inflated ego and serve the most banal meal I've had for brunch in a long time. Might be nice for afternoon tea but as a brunch venue why go here when you live in Melbourne and there are 100s of better spots to brunch?
A very good range of food and drink to choose from. The sandwich options are value for money if you are stopping by as part of a long walk.
