The Stables of Como Cafe

I've always enjoyed the scones and food here overall. However yesterday I ordered the shakshuka for the first time here (although not the first at other brunch places), the waitress did mention it was hot. There were 3 of us sitting on a small round table, it was rather tight, when reaching for our drink my arm touched the handle part for less than a second, whilst we knew it was hot, it would be good something that hot be covered by a cloth? I just don't think I've had a shakshuka at that temperature.
Oh well better me than our 1 year old daughter.

Pleasant terrace in a courtyard with good service and food. The sunshades over the outdoor tables were very necessary on our visit.

My family had such a disappointing experience. Half our food and drinks were never served and the staff did not apologise.

Had wanted to come here for so long but it really wasn't worth the effort. Service was almost non existent, and while the food was passable, it certainly wasn't worth the effort or price tag. Look elsewhere folks.

Couldn’t fault the Stables today. Thought they were well deserved of a good review. The barramundi was cooked to perfection and waiters more attentive and friendly. Their Pinot Gris not bad. Overall good atmosphere.

Even though the grounds are beautiful. But as for service it is absolutely terrible we waited for our food 1 hour and 40 minutes and when we got out food it was cold.will not be going again, and l do not recommend this place just terrible

Left so angry and disappointed,
Booked a picnic package in November for our anniversary on 24th December.
. Only to show up and find the place locked up. Turns out they were shut! We are now chasing up a refund.

So mad.

Quiet cafe nestled within Como's grounds and greenery. Selection of brunch and lunch items, sandwiches and lots of cakes/muffins etc. The cafe has great outdoor seating for warmer/sunny days. Staff very friendly. Definitely worth a visit.

How did I not know this place sooner? Lovely hidden gem in the heart of South Yarra. Great service and food and wonderful wine selection. Definitely recommend their carrot cake and steak baguette. We spent a good 3 hours in the cocurtyeard because we just didn't want to leave. Huge shout out to Luke and his crew for making our day.

Poor service waited about an hour for eggs and bacon when place was empty. Vanilla Milkshake tastes like plain milk poured into a milkshake cup. Food very average all three meals pretty bland.

Our family and friends have become regulars at the Como Sables since it has been recently transformed into a such a wonderful venue (I believe this is the result of the efforts of the manager Luke Marshall) and just held my wife’s 60th birthday celebration in the Garden Pavilion Room. Food and Staff and Service were exceptional. All our guests remarked how fantastic a choice it was to hold such an important function. We are so grateful to Luke and his team and would recommend it to anyone for a drink, coffee, a meal or to entrust with a special function experience.

We visited the stables today and the atmosphere is wonderful… unfortunately our coffee was Luke warm and when I asked the waiter for salt and pepper, it never came and a simple request for an extra glass for our table water… never came… I didn’t want to make a fuss with my friends I was with however we all spoke after our lunch today and said it was a shame our experience wasn’t great and our expectations of a beautiful lunch wasn’t met…

Lovely venue, shocking service. We had to walk out after 30 minutes of waiters just walking past us. Had multiple people around us complaining saying took over an hour to serve. Plenty of waiters around just walking and ignoring customers. Extremely bizarre.

Attractive setting but very poor slow inattentive service. Lunch order took over an an hour to come and when it did one meal was missing. The baguette” Waldorf salad” took another half hour, bore little resemblance to the original and was inedible. Very disappointing.

Came down for a midweek brunch and had an amazing time. Quick bit of coffee totally above the high Melbourne standard and had a quick bite as well. The Latkes were phenomenal and the 3 cheese croque fromage was not far behind. Add to that the great friendly service and a beautiful garden in the rear to walk off our meal resulted in a tremendous afternoon. Would recommend and will come again.

The food is amazing. The wait is terrible.

I reserved a table online, which required payment details and I would be charged $49 if I was a no show, but the restuarant was not ready for me when I arrived with my guests. The booking was for 10: 45, we arrived around 10: 40, waited by the board "wait here to be seated" for more than 15 minutes, until I personally called one of the stuff to get us seated. I gave her my name and told her I had booked a table for 6, she went in, served a few more customers, then started setting up the table I front of my eyes. Got us seated 10 minutes later.

Once we ordered, 30 minutes in, I had to ask if atleast the drinks were ready.
We got the drinks, after another 20 minute wait, I asked if the food would be coming, which ended up coming 10 minutes later.

The wait was so bad that one of my guests only had 5 minutes to eat and take the rest in a take away box cause she had to leave at 12: 30.

The food was good. The wait outrageous

We had my sons 1st Birthday in the Pavillion a couple of weeks ago.
Although parking can be a bit difficult The grounds are truly beautiful.
The staff where attentive and always had a smile on their face even when things didn’t go to plan.
The children’s platters / food was great. I opted for fries, burgers, cheese tomato toasties, and fairy bread
The mimosa bar was wonderful and would encourage all to partake.
The room is bright and easy to decorate with beams spanning the space (for streamer installs, balloon garlands etc).

However,
The Gelati cart was not “freshly made” as promised but rather already half consumed. The cart they place this on is not well considered as the ice cream melted quickly and it wasn’t even a very hot day (late July). The ice cream is paced on the cart with no way to keep it cool. It is open to the elements. There was no ice, lids etc.

I requested the antipasti platter and cheese table (confirming that it would fill an entire table to accomodate for 40 adults) and was utterly shocked and disappointed with what was presented on the day. I was charged $600 in total for 2 medium sized chopping boards (please see photos attached). I would strongly encourage you to avoid this if possible otherwise you might find yourself taking legal action as I am right now.

All in all the venue has a lot to offer. If food is of important to you on your event I would suggest an alternative place.

Victoria's (Hidden) Secret. Set in the tranquil grounds and gardens of Como House. The team of people in the kitchen and front of house are simply fantastic, service is world class and the coffee amazing.

We hosted a last minute birthday for my daughter and team were so accomodating. The staff we so friendly, looked after our entire group and service was seamless. Would 100% recommend to anyone.

I love where it is located. Such a nice spot to have lunch. Sadly, we waiting for 5-10 minutes just to be seated and again to just get some beverages however when we did get the drinks and food. It was super good. A bit more of the pricer side of thing but loved it
