The European reviews
85It’s always good here. Lovely atmosphere, sophisticated and delicious food, good wine list and top staff. Hard to beat at any time. Highly recommended.
We always love this little backroom of the European Wine bar, great food every time not to forget the wonderful selection of wines
Fantastic place as always with attentive staff that offers genuine customer experience. Well done to team European seafood dishes were a delight. Will be back soon.
Side note…please bring back the squid ink pasta with crab meat
Our family had been going to The European for birthdays and other special events for years. The food is the best in Melbourne! The service is always top class and ambiance is first rate. Highly recommend
Excellent service from the staff. I had the porterhouse steak and it was delicious. My wife had the grilled octopus and the steak tartate which she mentioned was the best she has ever tasted. Thank you all the European team. Great experience!
This place is a Melbourne institution and rightfully so.however i have to say something that might be contraverial; the guanciale was sub par.im still giving this 5 stars but i just had to get that off my chest.the Osso Bucco was life changing and the place is very sexy atmosphere
Amazing dinner experiences, best wine bar in Melbourne. Recommendations: grilled octopus, caviar, apple tart
Old school Italian! A Melbourne institution. The gnocchi was amazing. Soft and pillowy. Best I’ve had. Polenta chips are also a must every time we come here or city wine shop. I was curious about the orange rose wine and they let me have a taste to see if I liked it. The wine was really unique, not too sweet and a bit dry. Just how I like it! Prices on the high side but well worth it for a treat!
THIS is the true Melbourne restaurant experience we know and love.
Such a great dining experience, that reminds you why Melbourne is the culinary capital of Australia.
The ambience is relaxed yet sharp, the first rate service was charming but deliberate. The menu is brilliant and incredibly delicious (the cured King Fish entree was superb, while the Chicken Schnitzel with Italian slaw was a masterpiece).
Excellent wine suggestions completed this exceptional lunch and we are already planning our return.
Thoroughly enjoyable experience. The waiter was knowledgeable and recommended some great wines to compliment the food. The food was exceptional - flavourful and cooked to perfection. I highly recommend the steak. Absolutely delicious.
Had a very enjoyable dining experience with a colleague as we had no reservation and the staff found us a table outside. Our waiter was extremely professional and made our dinner all the better. The food was perfect and made for a great time experiencing Melbourne on a bustling summer eveing.
Absolutely disappointed was put in the toilet or corridor where the draft came in from Antarctica. When asked could we be moved we were rudely told by the waitress "THIS IS THE EUROPEAN" as if how dare you question. We had a drink and left never to return. Had lovely meal at Grossi Grill instead.
Service and food were exceptional, but difficult to overlook the prices, definitely at the upper end of most reasonable budgets.
Was standing there waiting for seats. Ignored by THREE of their wait staff. One saw us but decided to check on the seated clientele even though nobody was asking for help.
Wonder if it’s because I’m Asian.
Thank you to all the staff who made my birthday a wonderful lunch event. The food delicious and service 5 star. Highly recommend.
A classic Melbournian establishment that instantly transports you to European bistro vibes. Classic dishes executed very well.highlights were there perfectly succulent, sweet and juicy prawns.and the grilled saganaki with figs that perfectly encapsulated the sweet and salty flavour combination.
It would be remiss of me to not highlight the incredible wine selection including the option to purchase bottles for take away. One of the best places in the CBD to purchase wine.
Very nice and very French. Excellent table service and if your after that touch of feeling special and elegant this is the place. Menu limited but excellent quality.
Always a great meal in a relaxed atmosphere. Recommend the Chateaubriand if you love great steak and sharing
It's a lovely restaurant. This venue is perfect for family gathering and friends reunion. The food is delicious and the service is nice and friendly.
Not perfect but the atmosphere this restaurant exudes makes up for it. We love that the furniture is a bit rickety, it's small and tight spaced inside, the waiters are very busy, it's noisy.it's perfect! We had a mid morning breakfast and just sat by the front doors and watched people coming and going whilst we enjoyed our coffees and Croque Monsieur and Toasted nut and seed egg and avocado. Without a doubt will return for lunch and a dinner too!
