The European reviews
85 Our visit to the European was less than pleasant, as firstly the waitress tried to sit us down at the worst table although the restaurant was empty. Upon some insistence we were allotted something better. Having said that Sitting in a corridor with a continuous draught is not a pleasant dining experience.
Wine list terribly expensive with very few Australian wines by the glass, of rather mediocre value. Scorchingly hot prices for a glass of so called premium wines.
Table setting with cloth napkins sitting on frayed timber top tables combined with cutlery which one can find in op shops made a poor impression of general neglect. Napkins and decent restaurant grade well polished cutlery sitting on a clean side plate is the standard norm for a classy restaurant.
Being a vegetarian I had a very poor choice to pick from the menu. My wife had the Octopus entree which should have had Mojo as per the menu, alas turned out rubbery and chewy.
Her order for an aged porterhouse steak which was presented drowned in pepper sauce was tough and sinewy. My sauteed spinach totally lacking in flavour, and Gnocchi was passable. Had to ask for parmesan, which should be served on auto mode at a quality eating establishment.
We brought to attention the issue with the tough steak, which was swapped over without any fuss for a schnitzel served with an enormous mound of coleslaw and huge serve of chips. The serving size and presentation reminded me of plates at some Oktoberfest in Germany.
Conclusively there is nothing to rave about this joint, it is all over rated in the reviews.
Surprisingly the only good thing tonight was the green side salad that we had ordered with our steak. Crisp, cool and full of flavour with a refreshing dressing.
Restaurant wait staff seemed more interested in having a good time gossiping than attending to customers. The service attitude borders on being too casual to a bit offish. Definitely this is not an elegant place to dine out for a special occassion, and most definitely if one is a vegetarian please don't bother coming here.
My rating below Average for this joint, as for what you will spend here does not reply good value for money.
This was top notch.one of the best restaurants I have ever been to.the food, service, ambience were all outstanding. I absolutely loved dining here and am highly anticipating making a return asap.
A real little gem of a find!
Excellent food, wine and service.
Great place for a pre-show meal and drink.
First time dining with the wife - food was terrific, service prompt and polite. Atmosphere was relaxing - there was some noise but not distracting. We could hear each other and talk. Will definitely be back.
Was immediately taken back to Paris with this quaint and old-school restaurant/brasserie.
Our Tasmanian wine was excellent, our waiter was extremely friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious. I especially loved the cozy atmosphere and location.
Ingredients were extremely high-quality, and it reflected in the beautiful dishes we were served.
Food is always sensational. Great wine list to match. Cozy interior!
The service and speed here are amazing - our favourite spot to hit before going to the theatre. We love it every single time!
Visited this restaurant for the first time last night. Received a warm welcome followed by a prompt drink service. Jason was outstanding, very helpful and knowledgeable. The surroundings were elegant without being stuffy and the food was delicious. Will happily recommend.
This shop no longer offer's different size cups for coffee's etc. To pay in excess of $5.for a standard coffee's a rip-off.there's nothing special about it's taste.
My favourite spot in Melbourne. Doesn't get any better than this.
Staff are amazing, knowledgeable and fun.
Food and wine is legit.
Nice European style restaurant with a selection of food and drink options, mainly European choices.
I ordered the pommes frites with aioli, pecorino salad, and the gnocchi dish and all tasted delicious!
Very friendly and capable staff members and lovely tables outside.
Constructive feedback for the female toilet.
It wasn't very clean when I used it, however, giving the fact that the restaurant is European - style it reminds of the European continent.
Lovely food but the service was poor for such a restaurant. We had a booking for 7 but had to wait 30 mins for our table at the end of the bar next door with no service for drinks. We had to go up to get our bill. The service was slow slow through the night. Our salume plate, salad and saganaki were all wonderful as were the steaks for mains.
Consistently good food and atmosphere. Great option for late night dining in Melbourne CBD.
Service was really excellent - staff were friendly and helpful, great atmosphere, food was a little pricey but was really good. Great place to make a special occasion in the city even more special.
Absolutely a good restaurant with fine food and wine. The wine list exceptional. Octopus is a must ordered dish. Definitely will come back.
Last time I came here for a lunch before the lockdown. Last night we came
Here for drinks and I couldn’t help myself to order a dessert. It was so good. The staffs all very friendly and knowledgeable with the wine selections.
Not perfect but the atmosphere this restaurant exudes makes up for it. We love that the furniture is a bit rickety, it's small and tight spaced inside, the waiters are very busy, it's noisy.it's perfect! We had a mid morning breakfast and just sat by the front doors and watched people coming and going whilst we enjoyed our coffees and Croque Monsieur and Toasted nut and seed egg and avocado. Without a doubt will return for lunch and a dinner too!
Great place! That pasta was so tasty and the oyster is soo good! The shop is reasonably priced and the staffs are attentive, 10/10 recommended
Yes the menu has changed.not sure of it is a seasonal one.
I did like the brussels sprouts and duck from the old menu
A masterpiece of flavours in simple yet utterly refined dishes. The service was friendly, attentive and professional, polished in fact. We’ll be back as soon as possible. We need more of this fabulousness. Truly a cut above the rest.
Thanks Emmy (Emma) for providing awesome service and accommodating my wife’s dietary requirements - legend
