Smith and Deli

Aside from serving up the most delicious food in Melbourne, they have handled the current Covid staff shortages with grace and a smile. This is more than a beautiful deli, it’s a community. Do yourself a favour and visit this iconic eatery. You won’t be disappointed.

- Smith & Deli 1.0 - salmon/cream cheese bagel + 50c coffee

Supporting and having years of memories in establishments that Shannon has been involved in is something I like to hold close to me. So when going to the new location I was interested and keen to see the evolution of where 2.0 is at. A level of refinement and elevation instantly came to mind. You can look closer at it to see touches of the past that keep you grounded, but all the new and improved ways of operating and presentation gives it a new life. We decided to sit in and run a plate with 2 sides. Chicken pot pie, carrots and Mac/cheese + a maple blueberry brownie slid out the end. Really clean tastes and direct. For the type of service the food held really well and didn’t feel forced or gimmicky, it was just a straight up quality lunch with great service and atmosphere. Lots more to try and work on my own plate combinations.

This place has huge potential, so if you roll up check your ego or entitlement at the door while your scanning your code and pumping the sanny. These are early days so let the staff know if it’s your first time in and let them tell you the process.

Chalk another establishment up, can’t wait to add a new memory to the list.

I used to love this place. They now require a vaxx passport to enter the store for take-away. If you are going to enforce this, at least do so in a friendly way. Please extend your ethos of kindness to animals to humans too, whether coming from staff in the store, or management. My experience with Smith & Deli has left a very bad taste in my mouth.figuratively speaking. Their sandwiches are great though.although they were better when freshly made, as when left in the fridge, they are soggier. Freshly made is always best, even if logistically it's harder to execute. Please understand that without your customers, you have no business, so try and treat them with some compassion, humanity and respect. Other vegan businesses are doing it, so it can be done.

Staff give off really pretentious vibes here. No smiles, no friendly customer service. Just judgemental looks from the majority of staff members that all look frustrated that there are customers in the store? It's a pity cause the food is good, but I don't particularly feel like getting judged and made to feel like an inconvenience every time I come here.

Used to be a vibrant place with fresh food but since redesign they seem to have stopped making fresh sandwiches. Shame, I used to love this shop.

Good range, not the friendliest. You get the vibe that it's a bit stuck up. But then the whole area is really: p

Salads here are SO GOOD, would highly recommend the chicken salad to just about anyone!

Sandwiches have amazing textures, but always on the abit too salty end.

Absolutely loved the cake that I had custom made by the S&D team! I ordered the basic cake, but it looked so luxe to me! And layered? ! Omg! I never thought a vegan cake could taste so good! Thank you ️

The best vegan food I have ever tasted! The cheese"steak" is amazing as is everything else this institution produces! My regular on a Saturday morning.

I'm very confused as to whether the sandwiches here are all vegan or what, I got the Philly cheese steak.it didn't look or taste like steak but it tasted bloody amazing. Have been back few times since, there is always a bit of a wait but it's worth the wait

The deli part, serves high quality vegan takeaway food. Often busy so be prepared to wait. Also has a great grocery section. The restaurant, Smith and Daughters, some would argue is the best vegan dining experience in Australia. And I’d agree with that 100%!

Recently moved into the neighbourhood and i was looking forward to some Deli action! - Ive been getting a sandwich everyday for the past week and hands down they make the best sandwiches EVER. Very cute service too.

When we were living in Melbourne we were HOOKED to the sandwiches here; well made, tasty, FILLING, top-notch vegan ingredients that taste so AMAZING, EVERYONE should try them. Get yourself a nice smith & deli sandwich, go on.

Absolutely amazing food! The best sandwiches and rolls I’ve ever had. Beautifully made, full of flavour and texture. Mindblowing deli section, everything made from scratch and with heart. Great variety, overwhelming in the best way! Very friendly staff, and owner working on the floor too. Shannon is incredibly talented and passionate, she takes vegan food to a whole new level of taste, texture and general awesomeness. Had heard lots of hype before I visited and was not disappointed, any expectations were well exceeded. Everything here is plant based. Don’t let that put you off if you eat animal products. It would be a damn shame. You must try Smith and Deli.

Such a great choice of vegan groceries and an awesome menu of sandwiches, I had the BLT which had the best vegan bacon I've ever had. Friendly and efficient service and a bunch of cool merch too if you wanna show off your veganism. Wish we had something like this in Auckland.

Smith & Deli always has incredible service. Their employees are kind. Today I was having a rough day and came in with my partner. The woman at the counter asked how we were and after hearing our day wasn’t good she actually gave us some cookies to share. It made me cry. Just really kind and thoughtful - and they always treat their customers this way. Thanks for making my day a little bit brighter.

I've been here many times and never been disappointed. The sandwiches are the best! Also a wide range of vegan products you can't get in your local supermarket.

Used to come here twice a week when I still lived in Carlton. Finally back last month and their sandwich is still as delicious as I remembered. Ordered "Hail Seitan! " (Because YAY for pineapple in savoury food), and it was just lovely! Bread crispy and perfectly toasted. Cheese, gooey and melted through. Yum! Next in my list is their tofu meatball sandwich! Can't wait to go back!
