If you don’t get the chicken salad you are a fool! If you want to convince someone vegan food is good enough to replace a normal western diet filled with meal, this is your place!

The food is great. Been coming to Smith's and Deli since it opened, even at the new place. Never disappointed with the food but why why why can't they improve their efficiencies? I swear every time I go I have to wait a long time and watch poorly executed service. I just want to jump in and do it myself.

2 weeks ago I waited 30mins, standing there, for 2 sandwiches (I bought some frozen items from the freezer too, and cakes, spent over $100). It wasn't even that busy. During this 30min wait, I saw one person at the sandwich press (I ordered non-toasted sandwiches so she wasn't making them, they were being made out back), one person at the deli but with plenty of time to stop and chat to a friend with a baby, one person looking intently at receipts behind the deli, 1 person taking orders, and 1 person making coffees. It wasn't busy. They still seem to have staff placed in zones, and zero initiative to move to busier areas. The deli person didn't need to be there at that time, someone else could've done with the help. The woman looking at receipts, could've done something else (she eventually did package up my sandwiches). When I finally got the sandwiches I passed on my feedback and they said sorry we're short staffed. No, you're not, you're all poorly managed and not working efficiently. It's the most frustrating thing to witness each time I come in, literally the case every time. Really let's down the food which is great.

My all time favourite place in Melbourne. Every single pastry is delicious and I'm a huge fan of their toasted sandwiches. The egg martinez is a quick and easy breakfast and their sausage rolls are a perfect lunch on the go. It can get quite busy and loud on weekends so sometimes I grab takeaway and eat it at a nearby park.

The Wiggum sandwich is highly recommended.

They also have a small store with vegan goods such as chocolate which is always fun to browse through.

Never a bad experience at S+D. The quality of both food and service is fantastic.
Would recommend to vegans and non vegans alike.

NOT reliable vegan
This place has never had the most friendly staff but sandwiches were nice and so we were happy to return. However we will definitely not be returning since our most recent experience -
They report that they have an entirely vegan plant based kitchen; which I seriously question - this place would NOT be suitable for someone with a dairy or egg allergy as it resulted in a significant anaphylactic reaction and hospitalisation. Disappointing and outrageous for a place that so strongly pushes a vegan ethos. Maybe put some care into the humans eating your food

We went to Smith & Deli today for the first time and it was amazing! It was absolutely packed and there was a great atmosphere. I had my 2 kids with me, who are not vegan, and typical kids who love a burger. They were blown away! They thought it was one of the best cheeseburgers they'd ever had and that's a big call from my 2 burger 'experts'! We will definitely be back!

NOT VEGAN

Went for lunch with family, and one member has a severe allergy to milk and eggs - both non-vegan products.
He ordered a chicken pie, after confirming that the pie was made in house, and vegan. The staff member confirmed it was. After only a few bites, he felt wrong. After being sick, he still had a severe anaphylactic response, and had to be taken to hospital.
Zero stars would be awarded if you could.

An amazing place where being vegan or wanting to try vegan food is not a massive deal and beyond easy and ridiculously tasty. If you are in Melbourne you absolutely have to go. Good coffee, awesome service, love it.

Today marks my third time coming to this beautiful place.
My partner & I even came again today on the way home because we are honestly obsessed with everything Smith & Deli has to offer… (twice is one day is deffs saying something hehehe)
The variety of food is out of this world! I love the atmosphere & the staff are so so friendly & welcoming!
The workers always tell me how much they love working here which always puts a smile on my face.
Shoutout to my gal Veronica (V) who works in the buffet, your customer service is out of this world & deserves to get acknowledged. Keep it up gorgeous girl xx

Smith & Deli is a great place for a bite and/or coffee in nice set up. The modern decor and good service pairs very well with a menu that is full of vegan options.

Beautiful bright space, with very friendly staff. Had possible the best cinnamon donut I have ever had in my life. I'm still thinking about it.

Love the new location and layout. Not as many options as the previous store front but as always they are made to order fresh and the seating and service options are a huge plus.

Really great selection of vegan pastries and cakes. Lovely space as well.
Only downside is the location - parking can be very difficult to find.

Used to be good, but no longer - gives veganism a bad name - person serving had no idea what to do, sandwich looked like it had been sitting around for hours, ‘Caesar salad’ ($7) consisted of 3 sad lettuce leaves. Never again.

I visit this place for takeaway. I order a sandwich.the customer service so nice and people are really very friendly I really like this please.

The food is delicious and the vibes are excellent. And they have the best spiced Chai in Melbourne - it's actually spicy!

Love everything this team does. Great breakfast options, yummy treats and excellent coffee. Staff are so nice and welcoming. I'd come here daily if I could and I will once I move to Collingwood!
