Scienceworks reviews
80Scienceworks is a science museum in Melbourne, Australia. It is a venue of Museums Victoria which administers the cultural and scientific collections of the State of Victoria. It is located in the suburb of Spotswood. Opened on 28 March 1992, Scienceworks is housed in a purpose-built building "styled along industrial lines" near the historic Spotswood Pumping Station, constructed in 1897, whose steam engines form an associated exhibit. Displays and activities offered by the museum include hands-on experiments, demonstrations, and tours. The "lightning room" is a 120-seat auditorium that presents demonstrations about electricity, featuring a giant Tesla Coil, capable of generating two million volts of electricity, producing three metre lightning bolts. Melbourne Planetarium is housed on site. Until late 2013, the 1883 clock tower from Flinders Street station was also located at the museum. The clock had been moved to Princes Bridge station in 1905 and Spencer Street station in 1911, where it remained until sold into private ownership after the station redevelopment of 1967. The clock restored with an electric movement is now located at the Southern Cross station.
Wonderful place to learn about science and the pressing issues of the future! Would highly recommend for all ages.
The kids love this place. This time we did the lightning display also and the new Tycho goes to Mars show which they both loved.
Museum could be improved by having some rotation of their 'standard' displays - not an issue if you are only visiting once or twice, but for annual pass holders like ourselves it becomes noticeable.
Really interesting for children. The presenter of the planetarium is really good, explains it well.
Such a fantastic and magical place. So much to see and do. The kids were asking me to take them back there again even before we'd left. 10/10
Great educational experience but need to time your visit to avoid the crowds, especially when schools are visiting. The place can be noisy like a playground. Overall a good place to visit
Had a really nice time the food from many different countries was great and so was the live entertainment
Great nostalgic visit, some new elements, some classics. Saw Starlight at the Planetarium, was a great watch, but definitely for the more mature audience, wouldn't recommend for the very young.
Good for kids
Nothing much for adults
Felt nausea after the planetarium starlight show
I loved going there before lockdown, all the interactive activities were fun and I loved the planetarium and lightning room shows.
Great place to bring younger and older kids. We enjoyed it even as adults. Dedicated play area for under 5yo which my 3yo loved. Kept him entertained for a while. We’ll definitely be back to see other things that are more suited to an older child.
I loved this place! It was awesome and so fun when I watched people race the only thing, I didn't like was having to wait for my turn. I also loved watching the dog in space movie! Okay have a good day now byeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Absolutely the worst coffee in Melbourne. As for 1 sugar and you will get so much that it is undrinkably sweet. Sweeter than Softdrink sweet.
. The new exhibits are much better than some of the earlier ones.
The lightning room show is loads of fun.
And the planetarium has very entertaining and engaging shows on. Black holes show was very good.
There are collections of little interactive things, but nothing is that much exciting or engaging, and again there are always queues, and you will always find yourself waiting for your turn.
Barely any science. Mostly photo opportunities and half of the stuff is broken. Basically a walk through daycare
Interesting, educational and fun experience for kids (of all ages).
Exhibitions ranging from the history of technology, fitness, astronomy and more.
Extra presentations include the lightning room (added ticket price), planetarium (extra ticket price) and, for a limited time, the future of robotics (also additional ticket price).
With many playgrounds and a café, ScienceWorks is more directed for families and children.
Lots to do for kids and adults.definitely worth the money.downside: cafe food could be better and staff too.
Had such a great time with 6yo & 3yo. We learned lots and had heaps of fun.
Lots of interactive displays and games. We loved it and will definitely be back.
This was my first visit to Scienceworks and I found it very good. There are a lot of interesting exhibits and all the children seemed to be enjoying it. Well worth a visit.
Fun and educational! Love it and the amazing experience the team provide.thank you!
The kids loved all the activities.
