They should mark it as a children's exhibition. It's ok for kids up to the age of 10-12yrs

Would have preferred something more interactive. Kids aged 2 to 9 might enjoy it.
The sports section was the best.
Paying extra for the lightning show and air playground wasn't worth it

Amazing experiences for toddlers and young children alike. Plenty of interactive exibits to keep them entertained, teach them fun new things and satisfy their curiosity. What more could you want?

This should have been good, and the exhibits we could get to were incredible and have obviously been created by some very smart people. The lighting show and planetarium shows are worth paying extra for. The only issue was when we went there were at least 3 school groups visiting the Scienceworks, it seemed like close to 1000 kids in total, maybe that might be a bit of an exaggeration but I don’t think i would be far off. They had no respect, were banging on walls and scientific gear, with very poor scientific equipment. A kid stole my daughter’s cuddly toy but we did eventually manage to get this back. This has the potential to be a really amazing place and I presume many of these reviews have been made when things were quieter and there was actually space to move and without all the school kids hogging every activity. By reducing the amount of school groups allowed in at a time I’m sure they would reduce the problem of activities being damaged (parents give better supervision) and also improve the experience for everyone.

This rating is for the coffee at the scienceworks cafe. The coffee tastes burnt and is overpriced (compared to its size).

Un buen lugar si te interesa el avance humano y las ciencias, en el caso de tener niños es un lugar perfecto para que empieza a descubrir e interesarse por las ciencias un sitio muy interactivo, también cuenta con un café muy bueno.

Definitely a place to go if you have kids and try to find things for them to do (playground, interactive displays, picnic area, show and tell session). Else, it's a little entertaining for adults too.

The physical ground size is big but compared to other science museums I've visited, it's not as many things to see. However of you haven't been, do give a visit.

Great place to visit with kids. Better still take the annual museum membership that gives you access to all Melbourne museums throughout the year at just 99$ (@ the time of posting) for a family of 2 adults and up to 3 kids. This membership gives access all year to not just the science works museum, but also the Melbourne Museum and National Immigration museum also.

There is free parking on the road or full day parking for $5 inside the museum premises.

Alternatively, you can also use the PAYSTAY app.

Opening hours: 9.00 AM to 4: 30 PM

Note that the last shows (Lightning room and Planetarium) are at 3PM and to get best seats (Last rows) it is recommended to be there 15 min early for each show.

Attractions:
Apart from the immersing experience in the main museum, there is a planetarium, lightning room and pump works exhibit. There are loads of activities for families including a toddler play area.

The best thing is the museum keeps things updated making every visit a new experience.

Highly recommended visit.

COVID-Safe measures:
Sanitisers are available throughout the facilities and are functional. Covid safe rules are applicable as per government recommendations.

They got rid of nitty gritty supercity and the chicken sandwich from the cafe gave me salmonella.

Great kid's space, but some of the exhibits are a little dated.also, there is not enough about biology - specifically diseases, viruses and medical resrarch. The space exploration exhibit has about ten years of info missing, from the early 2000 to now. The science of music could be expanded to include acoustics, possibly in the form of small "sound - rooms", to illustrate reverberation and insulation. However admission is cheap, and the kids still enjoyed it!

Good for kids and adults or anyone wanting to learn and explore. Warning for those with sensory issues or taking someone with sensory issues, it's loud and crowded and noisy in almost every room (at least on school holidays) so noise cancelling headphones are suggested. The planetarium is relaxing and if you need to leave during any show you are welcome to do so but won't be able to come back in

Interesting place to bring kids to to explore, try, do, learn about Science. Kids become more interested how things work and why.

We were waiting for our pick up and the very nice people kept us sit inside for a while even though they were closing. This capped if a really nice day in one of the best science themed exhibitions. It was also my first planetarium attendance which I thought was excellent. Our 4yo grandson had a ball.

A bit of fun to spend a couple of hours, maybe learn something, have fun and read some of Melbourne's history

One of the favourite museums of my kids is Scienceworks. Trips to the museum are always educational and fun. Among Scienceworks activities, the Melbourne Planetarium is the part people most look forward to. As well as travelling to the outer edge of the universe and back, the presentation also includes a look at the night sky. Discover which planets, stars and constellations are easily seen from a Melbourne backyard and how our view of the sky changes, night by night.

Always a good place to go with kids. However really hope it could be bigger and brighter. It’s so dark inside, not good for safety.

Great ext with kids, school holidays fun. 3d Movie is awesome. Better go early as there is so much to watch upstairs and around at least good 4 Hours if doing Lighting show and Movie. They have cafe onsite with good food options which is handy!

Fun day out. Though the experience is somewhat geared towards families with kids, we went as two adults and still had a great time. Some activities were more adult-appropriate (e.g. The pumping station tour, static displays and the planetarium) whilst others were definitely more for kids so beware what you book if there are no kids in your party. Best enjoyed by getting into the spirit and giving all the interactive displays a go! Would come back again!

Great for the kids, not a lot of things to look at but the kids enjoy themselves, the lightning show is awesome.
