Royal Oak Hotel reviews
71Very nice Hotel. Really good atmosphere. We really liked everything about the hotel. We will be back.
A bit late but better late than never.
I visited in July '23 and loved it! Excellent food, nice cold beer and exceptionally friendly staff. I had the lovely crumbed lamb cutlets
A lot of modern pubs are big, cold and lack atmosphere. The Royal Oak is quaintly old fashioned and shares none of those boring qualities.
I'll be back very soon in the warmer months to experience the lovely looking outdoor area.
Thank you so much for the warm and caring hospitality!
The mixed grill was delicious, and all the meals came out quickly. Everything was well-priced. I really loved the vegetables that came with it too — I expected a few beans and peas like other places do, but this came with zucchini, potato, and pumpkin. Great experience, would definitely go back.
A huge thanks to all the wonderful staff that worked today (Public Holiday). Excellent, friendly service and great food and beer. Our first time and the beer garden is as good as it gets. Dog friendly, definitely worth the visit, and I thoroughly recommend you go.
What a great place the Royal Oak is.
We had a fabulous meal a few drinks and the staff were so friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend and will be going there again.
If you're after good pub grub at good prices in a good atmosphere look no further. After 12 year's in Ballarat I finally found my kinda pub, definitely going back.
The mixed grill ($33), unless the chef has perfected replicating supermarket packaged goods, it was all supermarket stuff, as if I’d gone to woolies and grabbed the cheapest packaged salads i could find, as well as the cheapest meats, waitress was nice, and the atmosphere was meh, people were doing gardening around us (was in the beer garden)
Unless the mixed grill was just a horrible choice, I definitely would not go here again.
We were road tripping back from Melbourne to Adelaide and stopped at the Royal Oak for an impromptu feed and holy moly, we found gold! (pun intended). We were greeted by a friendly chap behind the bar and had two of the best ribeye steaks we’ve ever had. It’s a shame we don’t live closer as this place would definitely be our regular! Big country servings at reasonable prices, you can’t go wrong!
It warms my heart to know places like this still exist in the world, great work team!
Really good feed and very friendly staff. Bonus point for selling bush chooks aswell (emu export)
Food is overpriced and below average quality, zero stars. Steaks were full of fat, served almost raw despite asking for medium, and appeared to be cheap and nasty cuts. Sauce was bland and tasteless. Vegetables from bain-marie were very bad. Salads not fresh, pre-prepared coleslaw and pasta salad very ordinary. So disappointed, a very bad dining experience, unlikely to ever return.
The Korma curey was watery only 3 veg and the pumpkin was well overcooked.
I did not need a salad with it. Yuk.
Best pub in Ballarat!
Please do yourself a favour and visit this place has an amazing old school feeling.
Rock solid pub fare with decent tap beers and friendly service.
It's probably no secret that this place I'd a hidden gem but it's loved and well visited by locals but is definitely worth the back street drive if you're looking for solid, good sized and super well priced meals.
The rump is massive and the mixed grill is spot on.
Old school salad and veg with your meals and all yhe condiments you can think of.
Not skimpy on little stuff like tomato sauce for the kids, bottle to the table type traditional experience.
A class!
Pretty decent place, meals a great, the dinning area is a little on the small side. Gets loud with too many there. Service is good, friendly.
This is the best pub I’ve never been to!
I walked by and it was full of people who were enjoying themselves to the fullest! I saw lots of laughs and full bellies but I wasn’t staying in Ballarat so I had to continue my travels. I missed out completely but would love for anyone else to visit and share their experience!
Too busy at lunch time so didn't go in. Good sign though, it must be pretty good if it was packed.
Drove past and thought why not pop in for lunch, what a stroke of genius because we found the best rib eye steak. Not only was it massive but cooked to perfection.
The steak was the size of the plate
The Royal Oak has all the hospitality with a hint of nostalgia you could hope for from a neighbourhood pub (or any pub for that matter). Delicious meals that are true to form, great tap selection and a decent wine list. Staff are second to none, and I count myself lucky to have a local of this calibre.waiting for the day I win the Friday night charity raffle meat tray!
OMG! Was recently recommended by a friend and now we've become regulars.
Great pub food and an amazing atmosphere especially in the pub area.
Staff are so friendly but definitely recommend you make a reservation
Oh! They even have a small function room.
Would have to be one of Ballarats best kept secrets. Went there for dinner on father's day in a group of 4. For starters the staff were super friendly and the meals were sensational. I had the mixed grill. Was a huge meal and it was done to perfection. My partner had the rump steak and it was one of the best steaks he had ever had. And we're both chefs ourselves. Will definitely be back again.
