Royal Mail Hotel, Dunkeld reviews
83 Very unfriendly woman. We were under the impression breakfast was included in accommodation for w/e. Was last year.
No one approached us to sign for breakfast or on leaving asked to sign. They had plenty of time to approach us as we sat around chatting for ages.
Her rudeness and inability to discuss was not appropriate.
We certainly will not be returning and intend to pass the word around from ten very unhappy people. Regards June Hill
I simply cannot wait to go back. I saw the same chef work the dinner, breakfast and lunch shift. In that order. I truly admire and respect everything the Royal Mail stands for.
Lovely two night stay at the Royal Mail Hotel. Also had a meal at Wickens and Parker Street project. The area is so peaceful and relaxing. The hotel amenities are great. The Food experience at Wickens was superb. I would recommend a two night stay with meals and garden and wine tour to anyone wishing to have a special memorable experiance. Loved it!
Phenomenal story of small town to icon with the help of Alan Myers. This is an experience, unequalled, in my experience, in the world. What a story
This is a great place to stay The 2 night package exceeded our expectations The meals at Parker Street restaurant and Wickens restaurant were both first class The staff were very friendly and helpful
Unfortunately we had only the time for a coffee stop over, the staff were friendly and the venue was well presented, hopefully next time we will have time for a meal and be able to do a more comprehensive review.
Would have been a 5 star review but despite confirming our late 1pm check out time we returned to our room at 10.25am to find housekeeping resetting our room for its next guests. Such a pity Royal Mail - needless to say- we checked out and our stay ended!
We ate at the Parker St Project and enjoyed it so much returned the next night. As per its advertising the meals and service are fine dining at pub prices. Having sharing plates means you can eat alone with maybe two plates or go 3 or 4 plates as a couple. A superb dining experience!
We had the $55 feed me menu. You'd be hard pressed to find a better value degustation than this. Nearly every dish was exceptional. Personal favourites were the pork knuckle on bed of lentils and the sirloin steak. I can't fault the RMH on quality of food and value for money if you get the $55 feed me.
Great room with a view of the Grampians. Good dining experience at Wickens made more special by taking the cellar and kitchen garden tours.
The beetroot dish was outstanding, the earthiness of the beetroot complimented by the goats cheese. The crumbed garfish is yummy, but be careful of the small bones. It’s not the easiest dish to eat. The lamb ribs is a bargain at $8 for 4 pcs of ribs, but it was chewy. Another outstanding dish was the charred broccoli. The miso dressing packed a lot of umami which was perfect for the chariness of the broccoli. The other dishes were acceptable.
We are in the Parker Street Project and were blown away. The duck fat chips were to die for, as were both our main courses - the duck and the lamb belly.
Bookings are essential here as it’s a very popular destination, you’ll understand why with your first bite.
A great wine selection although not any organic which I normally prefer.
When I first walked in I was amazed at how beautiful the restaurant was I am speechless to write a review it was that amazing i just dont know what to say
Thanks for a great weekend. Every staff member was friendly, professional and went out of their way to make sure people had a great time. Wickens showcases great local produce and a wine cellar of which the restaurant is rightly proud. Head chef is awe-inspiring and Matthew and Bec - thank you for making it a weekend to remember!
We had the Feed Me selection for 5; It would have been nice to have had some courses divided for us and not have to portion it ourselves.
Not the great atmosphere I remember from my last visit. Very upmarket & over priced. Didn’t stay & had our lunch across the road.
Great food and ambiance. We were a party of 5 and had the multi-course Feed Me menu. The Royal Mail would have received 5 stars from me if each person had been served their portion, rather than us having to divide 2 portions between ourselves, which was awkward.
They were able to fit us in for a late booking at their Parker Street Project while we were on the road. The service was outstanding and the food was magnificent. The prices were very reasonable too. Can't recommend highly enough!
Worth a visit as there isn't much else in the Dunkeld area. Food a little expensive and average quality.
This is one place we keep coming back to. Love the Parker Street Project.where you can share dishes! Menu is ever changing. Just depends what they have picked from the garden.
But the pickled vegetables are always amazing. I've brought the kids here also.they love it also. Wait staff are so well trained and knowledgeable about what they are serving.
