Royal FTG Hotel reviews
79No Senior meals weekends. Silly. Better to have a full Bistro @ $20 a head keeping the bar staff busy, than a hand full eating $25 meals So went to the Club Hotel - great Seniors value @ $20 a head, plus free garlic bread. Wine $6.50, schooners $9 - will be back with our friends.
Good friendly staff, nice warm atmosphere.
We had the Christmas special
Soup delicious we had some garlic bread which was nice a soft, perfect.
Roast meats and veggies cooked perfectly right amount of gravy and apple sauce.
Plumb pudding was small but tasty with the custard and all that we needed to finish the meal. Very full off to the 1000 steps to work off the great meal!
Great meal, lively and friendly atmosphere. We had a roast and slow cooked beef papardelle followed by plum pudding and custard. Well prepared, melt in your mouth food.
Lovely pub. Bonus is no playground so pretty laid back atmosphere. Food is good, service is a little slow but the staff are lovely so make up for it
Had a 40th Birthday here and it was a great experience. We had two huge tables of people in the bistro and the meals came out pretty quickly after ordering. The calamari salad, roast beef and parmas were very good. Staff were friendly and polite. All the kids meals came out quickly and were enjoyed too.
Place was busy so expected some delay. Waited an hour for a kids meal-checked in and then it was delivered (looking like it was scraped off someone else’s plate…)
Two steaks followed-one seniors, one mains. The main was supposed to be med/well but was still bleeding so sent it back. The seniors was so tough and full of fat it couldn’t be cut with a steak knife.
Waited another half hour but the med/well still hadn’t come out so asked for refund (as we’d now been waiting over an hour and a half and all other meals were finished). This was met with pleas to wait by wait staff who had been terrific in trying to help.
Couldn’t wait any longer so said we’d prefer a refund. Also showed the fat, rubbery steak that was the seniors and how it couldn’t be cut. Disappointed staff dropped their heads and gave us our money back for the steaks-the only positive experience.
Not faulting the waitresses, but won’t be going back again. Expensive, no good, huge wait.
Wonderful service and a nice meal for lunch in pleasant clean surroundings. Worth a visit for a nice meal. Plenty of parking out back.
Only go on weekends good for food meals all day on weekends which is great and the food is delicious has tab and pokies so everything you need if you want it.
Was at public bar for dinner. After walking from Ferntree Gully
Great steak chip's and salad.
Great vibe in pub and not noisy.
Popular hotel in Upper Ferntree Gully situated a stone throw from the Ferntree Gully National Park and the climb to Belgrave. Typical pub menu with reasonable prices and decent amount of food on each plate. Have enjoyed steaks, veals and pasta here. On the last visit we enjoyed a King Avo Parmigiana and the Seafood Basket was above average for a pub meal. Always a table available if you don't have a reservation. You will find the staff quite friendly and there's a large car park so finding a spot is not a problem. Worth a meal.
I had a very poor experience overall
We were seated fine on a Thursday night not overly busy
Ordered on our phones the entrees came to the table promptly
Drinks took 20 minutes before we went and asked where they were
Then the mains had to be asked for also
Accommodating staff but no compensation or free drinks for really poor service
Will not be coming back I don't think
Had the fillet steak cooked nicely, I would have liked a bit more of the vegetables but over all very happy with the meal.
Went here approx 6 months ago and really enjoyed it. Went again at the weekend (19th Nov 2022) and was very disappointed. The veg and chips was cold not warm but actually cold. The spring rolls were crispy on one side but raw on the other side. They brought the food out in the wrong order ie mains first and starter much later. Not a big issue but not hard to get right.
Had a word with the wait staff and mentioned how good it was 6 months ago and what had changed. Apparently the kitchen staff were all new hence the difference. The kitchen staff did apologise but that's a bit of a throw away comment. The fact the last time we struggled to get a seat and this time there were only a couple of people dining tells a story. Look after your customers or they won't be customers for long.
Looking at a few of the reviews here it might be time to revise how you cook your roast vegetables
I ate here at a family gathering recently and was pretty disappointed in what was presented
My wife ordered the roast (boiled?) Turkey which looked like it was cut off a $10 Turkey roll from Coles, the "roast" potatoes also looked boiled and were soft and mushy.
My steak was ok but I had the same issue with the veggies, the potatoes tasted like they were boiled in used dishwater, definitely weren't roasted
The kicker was the garlic bread, I swear there was an entire block of Bega slapped onto that poor slice of garlic encrusted loaf, I could feel the casein coursing through my veins after the first bite
Our first choice for a pre-theatre meal. Well advised to book in advance, particularly for a Friday night show. I like the menu choices and specials board.
Zoe from the bar / gaming room was extremely friendly and polite. And she made my time at the royal hotel very enjoyable. Such an amazing atmosphere here, feeling very welcomed, especially by Zoe. Definitely going to be returning.
Went here for dinner, as we have many times before, but tonight it was terrible. My wife and I each ordered the eye fillet surf and turf special medium rare and after waiting 35mins (well after our kids had eaten) it came out medium well/well done. $42 special, so we sent it back and the waitress was apologetic and they remade it. 15 mins later they came out with one eye fillet cooked correctly but my wife's plate had a scotch fillet cooked medium-well done. The wait staff checked in on us and saw our disappointment and were again apologetic and offered us another drink, dessert and our money back. We cannot fault the waiting staff, they were great, but unfortunately the kitchen has let them down badly tonight.
The Royal is a good place for local gatherings with families or friends to eat together, play pool or just have a drink. I like paying when ordering rather than having to split a large bill. Plenty of parking at the back.
We had a nice dinner & drinks there.
2 pool tables & nice staff.
Best to park in the back to avoid meters out front. Recommended!
Just had roast of the day, turkey. Turkey was great but roast vegetables poor. Luke warm to cold and roast? Potatoes a soggy mess. Staff great as usual. Greg Harney Boronia
