Rice Queen Oriental Diner and Bar

I went here for dinner and drinks with my friends and I’m definitely going back. The staff was great and the service was amazing.

Disappointing experience here last month. Our waiter Richie was friendly at first but left us waiting for half an hour before taking our drink orders or even giving us table water, and food arrived incredibly late. Was unattentive for the rest of the night. Not worth it, especially considering the quality of service.

A hidden gem Asian restaurant in Fitzroy. Their inner decorations is really something with the spirits of the street art.
We ordered the tasting menu for two and I love the spicy chicken and the bao the best. While everything was delicious and has the authentic flavor from Asia.

Beautiful decor and delicious cocktails. Also loved the happy hour drink specials, great value for money. However, don’t get the reviews raving about the food as it was very average, and completely agree with the reviews that the Chef’s Banquet was not enough food. For $65 per person, we didn’t expect to have such average food and leave hungry. We have done a lot of really nice banquet meals in Melbourne and this just did not match up in terms of portions or flavours. The Truffle Xiao Long Bao was the only highlight. We felt silly about having to cut a small sliver of kingfish in half to share between 2 people as there wasn’t even enough for each person to have a piece each. We also had to argue with the staff that they had only brought out 7 dumplings when we had a party of 8, having to count out the dumplings manually in order to get our point across. Although they eventually apologised and provided one extra dumpling, the initial communication was poor and very defensive.

We came here for the bottomless brunch and it didn’t disappoint. Great staff- food and drinks came quickly. Food was delicious and the roti bread was an all time favourite! The red lantern was our favourite cocktail. Great bottomless brunch deal and the venue is beautiful

The food was killer, the service was super and the atmosphere (with in-house DJ) was smooth as.

One of the best Asian fusion place I’ve been to. It has a really nice ambiance and great service from our server as well. Food was amazing, authentic flavours and serving was enough to share between 2 people. Wagyu pad thai was a bit on the oily side but was still good. Would definitely come back to try the other items on the menu and the karaoke!

Recently celebrated my birthday here on a Saturday night with 14 of my girlfriends.

We had the Feed Me Menu @$65 pp which offers several courses and desert can be added for an additional $5.

I love this venue and have been here many times, but not post covid.

The decor, ambiance and vibe is so on point and perfect for a girls night out. We got heaps of great photos.

The service on the night was downright rude to begin with - I had to ask for the assigned waiter to be removed from our table. The North American waiter was obnoxious- making fun of my guests because of their dietary restrictions and in general being rude when I enquired where our drinks were after us waiting over 15 minutes from ordering them.

The rest of the staff was lovely, but there were obvious issues with food coming out - a few times they didn’t have enough food come out for the number of people we had an inevitably one of my friends missed out if had to wait.

They were lovely enough to acknowledge this and offered us a round if shots in the house which was a nice touch even if it was just sugary, coloured water!

Overall I had a great night because of the company, ambience and affordability of the place - drinks and feed me menu is definitely not as expensive as a lot of other Melbourne venues.

The highlight of my evening however was the karaoke room - we had 6 of us do an hour session at $15 per head and it was a great way to cap of my birthday dinner. Highly recommend booking this in!

Great feed, good atmosphere, recommend the beef curry 1st, equally 2nd was KFC and the lamb rib bao. Looking forward to coming back.

My first time here and I was pleasantly surprised to find a menu that identified the items that were Fructose Friendly! Cocktails were also yummy. I would definitely go back.

We love Rice Queen! The menu has a great selection and everything we ordered was delicious. For value, the chefs menu is fantastic. Inside has a really lovely ambience too. We always walk away very happy!

Our waitress for tonight Sao (apologies if ive spelt it wrong) was amazing. Our group of 20 had a very good time tonight at rice queen. It isnt easy to find a place for a big group with good service, food and with a very reasonable pricing as well. We had the banquet menu and both the meat and vegan version were delicious. Asian fusion cuisine is simply the best. Cocktails were good as well. Love the service, decorations and atmosphere, highly recommend this place!

Haven’t been to rice queen in 2 years+ and now they start send me spammy text messages that I didn’t ever sign up for, jog on!

We were impressed with the extensive decor that set a true Asian ambiance. Everyone loved their food and the servers ‘attentiveness. Would definitely recommend to others. Dessert was really tasty also.

Rice Queen is our favourite Restaurant. I can't tell you how many time I have eaten there, with family and friends. We even had my son's 18th birthday dinner there years ago (he is 24 years old). We had dinner there on Friday night and for the first time I was left underwhelmed the food of delicious as usual however the portion sizes where smaller than before. It was as if the portions were for 2 not 4 people.
I will not stop dining at Rice Queen.

The feed me menu is very much worth it! Make sure you are hungry as it is heaps of food but all delicious. Cools vibe and good service.

Great food, lots of Coeliac as well as vegetarian, vegan and omnivorous options. Friendly, attentive wait staff too - highly recommended!
