Radio Mexico reviews
74Best Mexican around, hands down. I love the vegan taco bowl - it’s my absolute favourite eat out/takeaway meal. The margaritas are delicious. Good range of food and cater to all dietary needs. I don’t think anyone would be disappointed here (except for when it’s too busy to get a table).
Having authentic Mexican for the first time and I would highly recommend this place so far best Mexican restaurant I have been to in Melbourne.
One of the few Mexican restaurants to really take advantage of the flavours of Mexico and Latin America - and they have friendly floor staff to look after you.
Spiced coffee was nice with spices and orange peel.
Food was really tasty with only minor critiques where some ingredients really needed to stand out more: The chorizo quesadilla had barely any chorizo and I couldn't taste it even though I could see some bits, and the tamarind ribs were beautifully tender and yummy but I couldn't taste the tamarind at all. The nopal quesadilla was great (though REALLY spicy without a warning on the menu).
Price is a little high for serving sizes but that's pretty standard with high-quality, gentrified Mexican food these days (Mamacita/Hotel Jesus are far worse on this front).
One last issue for me was their choice of music: 80s hits instead of anything Latin (?) which is odd since we have such a huge range of music you could play, not just salsa/son music. The ambience was really at odds with the rest of the experience.
Overall an excellent time and a menu that seems to really embrace authentic Mexican flavours and high quality ingredients to outshine bland chains like Fonda.
What a gem! The food and drinks were unreal. The habanero sauce on the side was the perfect addition to the delicious tacos and quesedillas. The portions are on the smaller side and some Latin music would've been amazing but will be back.
We had the best time tonight at dinner here. The food was fantastic. Having travelled to Mexico it tasted like the real deal. Plenty of vegetarian and vegan options too. The staff were spot on - friendly and attentive with just the right amount of laid back. Naoko- who’d only been on staff for two weeks, was a star! It’s so nice to be dining in a place where the people who work there are genuine, focused and bring an unintended/unpretentious style to the place. Love it and will return.
Great atmosphere however the food could use a little more love and spark. I didn’t have a moment where I thought wow, I need to eat more of this.
This hispanic New Yorker can honestly say its the best authentic Mexican in Melbourne! Everything is delicious. The Sopa de Tortilla and Tostaditas are my personal favorite! The chill vibe, great service and 2 for 1 margaritas every Monday make this spot a must
I decided to have a quick dinner at this restaurant. I walked in and sat at a table for 4 and I was by myself. The restaurant was empty with only a few patrons. I was asked if I wanted a drink and I said sure and ordered. About 5 mins later some guy shows up and asked if someone seated me and I said no I’m looked after. He then proceeded to tell me the table I was at was reserved but there was no sign. He told me to sit at the bar because I was alone. I said I don’t want to sit at the bar and then he proceeded to get all bent out of shape. I ended up leaving! What an absolute joke! Empty restaurant and he wants to push me to the bar! I would have been in and out in 30mins and he may have got a good review! Idiot!
Fantastic food and beautiful ambience.
Love a section of cocktails. It's great to catch up with a group of friends or a romantic dinner.
Yum! Delicious food, fantastic drinks, great staff The only drawback for me is they don't take reservations, which is a bit of a pet peeve for me, but overall love the place.
Fantastic and authentical mexican food. I really enjoyed that. Was lucky to get served by the manager Cameron, who mixed a variation of the menu for me. Oh my God that was yummi. If you’re in St. Kilda, Melbourne go eat here and make sure you’ll get Cameron to mix your dinner.
Exquisite food and top notch service. I was a bit suspicious of their soup, but I am craving to go back! It’s one of a kind. The Lagarita has all the fun of a Margherita tasting like a beer. Recommend booking a table cause it gets real busy, real quick!
If you’re looking for Mexican, Radio Mexico is worth the trip to St Kilda!
I can't believe it has taken me so long to try the best Mexican food in Melbourne. A friend recently recommended Radio Mexico to me. It is hands down the best Mexican I have had. The tortilla soup (sopa de tortilla) was insanely good, tacos were great and the magaritas were excellent. I've been pretty sick of the bland, sloppy mexican food around Melbourne - this place will be my "go to".
This is food that makes you happy!
The staff were very friendly too and their recommendations were spot on. The music is great, the venue is nice and casual. The Manager also showed me an excellent functions spot upstairs. Keen to set up a party/work function soon.
Definitely a new regular at this awesome restaurant.
My girlfriend and I went there for dinner and drinks. Radio Mexico is a place I really liked in the past and we were excited for the night. We ordered two mojitos to start and when they arrived mine just tasted like rum and soda water, the other you could clearly taste had no rum whatsoever. I felt like the bartender may have accidentally poured two shots into one glass. It can happen - honest mistake. More than that, there was no mint, and just one whole piece of lime floating about. It hadn't been mashed like it should when making a cocktail (that's why these drinks take so long to make and hence the price). I was debating whether to just drink them and not cause a fuss but they were undrinkable. I called the waitress over to explain and she takes the drinks to the bartender and I can see them giggling and looking our way. The bar tender starts to sample the drinks. He then takes the drinks and starts adding bits and pieces to the them, continuing to sample them and "fix" them, rather than starting again. I didn't want to get up so my partner goes over and politely asks that the drinks are made fresh (which is not an unreasonable request). In the background I can see the bartender mashing and stirring and I knew it would be a better cocktail. They arrive and it wasn't the best mojito I've had but it was nice nevertheless - we were happy. A few minutes later a waitress comes by and and asks "is that better for you? " In a strange, smirky manner. I didn't click at that time, so I responded in a happy and positive manner, "yeah they taste great". Under her breathe I hear her mutter, "well he made them the same". I confronted her on the remark (to which she was shocked that I heard). She then repeated loudly, "he made them the same! ", as if to imply that there was nothing wrong with the drinks in the first place. I cannot express the outrage I felt being disrespected in such a manner. At this point we were actually starving but decided that we'd rather not eat here (and tolerate such attitude). We got up and canceled the food order and tried to explain to the manager that we were leaving because of this waitress. Rather than seek clarification from us, she instead asked the waitress what had happened. Clearly customer service isn't a priority which was even more disappointing. I have only ever had good experiences prior, but I will never return.
The service and place are good, prices are ok. But the main thing, the food is disappointing. I wish it was more authentic. I hope it helps to improve the kitchen. Cheers
Came here over a year ago and the food was great. Ordered a few different types of taco's this time and they weren't the best. Lacking alot of flavour and tasted quite bland.
Highly recommend this place if you're looking for overpriced and undersized meals. Can get busy depending on time of day, if they tell you there's a wait just walk around the corner and you'll be able to find better / cheaper options.
Creative and tasty food, well presented and a reasonable price for the quality. Had a drink at the bar while we waited for a table. The quoted wait time was accurate and the staff member kept us informed of progress which was appreciated. All the staff we interacted with were friendly and attentive. The only major thing letting this place down for us was the noise. You literally had to yell to be heard in table conversation. It is probably one of the noisiest places I've ever dined in.
Amazing service, delicious cocktails and yummy tacos! (although a tiny bit small) Definitely get the carnita tacos and a margarita! You won't be disappointed
¡Ay, Dios mío! Honestly good concept but poor execution. Food is overpriced and bland, $7.50 for a single taco and the expectation of you to pay $2.50 per house sauce you'd like, 10/10 would not recommend. Save your money and hit up GyG tbh.
