Okami - Brunswick reviews
82 Came in with a group of 13 after an event nearby and had one of the most frustrating services ever from Okami.
(TLDR: Waiters never coming to table for ordering, unless I walked over to counter and told them to. Asked to speak to manager and was told they will come over to table, never came. Food orders came 1 hour after we ordered them.)
Our guests came in two groups, but once all our guests had arrived we sat on our table ignored for 25 minutes. We got to watch the table next to us order more food with plenty of dishes already on their table, yet did not bother to approach us with no drinks or food. Only one bottle of water that lasted about 2 minutes for the whole group of 13.
We tried making uninterrupted eye contact with waiters (we did not want to be rude) but all 5-7 waiters did not glance over once. Some were just stacking plates up even, so didn't feel like they were too busy. Eventually after 25 minutes I lost patience and had to approach the payment counter to ask them to serve us and when the drinks we ordered 20 minutes ago were going to arrive.
When we did order food, some plates took over an hour to arrive. Some dishes never arrived or required us to walk over (again) to payment counter to ask why they weren't coming. By the time most of our first round of ordered food arrived, the kitchen was about to close so we didn't even get a chance to order much else. I was so unsatisfied with how my group was served that I requested to have a chat with the manager, which the staff at the front end seemed uncertain and told me the manager would come over to our table to have a chat. If they did come over, they most certainly didn't introduce themselves and offered more drinks on the house which was pointless at that stage since all the food was eaten. The food, however, was solid but was fragmented in being served. (We got steamed vegetables last and rice early with nothing at the time to eat with rice).
Incredibly disappointed by the service from staff being ignored for a good portion of our stay there. We have tournaments for Japanese games around the corner, so your restaurant works perfectly for our group. If our next service is similar to our experience this weekend, we will be searching for a more grateful business around the corner. I wish I didn't choose to go there that night, hardly had a chance to order and get our money's worth from the $40ish p/p price.
Make sure you order everything you want to eat on the *first round of ordering. * for "all you can eat" they will challenge you to see how long youre willing to sit there for the next round.so, strategize your "all you can eat" experience with that in mind and ignore what the menus says which is "we will cater the order size to the size of your party". Nope.order heaps first round, otherwise ripoff.we left hungry after waiting almost an hour.
The food here is excellent, however there aren't many of the high value options, e.g. Sashimi (you can't get it without a combination of nigiri or sushi).
Service is slow and difficult to wave down sometimes. Our waiter was serving us sake and spilled a portion of it everywhere without compensating us.
Price is OK for what they are offering. It's cheaper than other high-end Japanese all-you-can-eat, but you are getting what you pay for.
Having said that, the food is fresh and delicious. It's definitely satisfying and we had a good time. Would definitely come again.
We went there for the“All you can eat” on Saturday night. The food was delicious and high quality, especially sushi. The staff were friendly. It was a great experience.
The staff was not friendly and she seemed not happy when we ordered another dish. We won’t go there again.
ALL YOU CAN EAT $38
Great value for money, staff are friendly yet I dare say they need more as the restaurant is super busy (and loud). Food comes out quickly enough, drinks are also tasty. Great to come with a group
Great selection of dishes for buffet, including the sushi sashimi set. And the taste of the food is not disappointing either, worth the price
Totally trash, average waiting time for each order around 20mins, ask 2 sushi and sashimi platter serve one platter in two piece, all the food are very small dishes, not open by japanese, very bad experience
I used to like coming here but after my last visit I got food poisoning in August 2022
Fast forward to November 2022, the manager contacted me and offered me 2x free all you can eat over the phone. When I booked this in they did not confirm it was free of charge and said they do not offer this. I'm disappointed yet again.
It was great to try Japanese cuisine other than just sushi, my boyfriend and i had a good time here. The 3 star rating is due to the quality of some foods and quite a long waiting period between food being delivered to the table. The Shumai we order was delivered quickly after we ordered it, but was super mushy and fell apart when picking it up (one was already broken in half when delivered). Growing up in an asian household, I’m used to authentic dumpling and shumai recipes which have never been mushy and have been taught this means it’s over cooked or old/reheated! Our Prawn dumplings were also super mushy and soggy feeling on the inside which neither of us were used to or liked. The takoyaki were pretty bland and there was some mushy filling with one or so pieces of octopus inside, the dried fish flakes made it all taste super fishy and overpowered the other flavours. We also ordered the Arabiki sausages which we received quickly, but the skin of the sausage was super hard and made it difficult to eat. It ended up tasting like a cheap version of cheesy kranski from supermarkets. Last little thing, we had finished the bottle of water and couldn’t wave down any staff to refill it, even tho many walked past and around us collecting other dishes. We ended up putting the empty bottle with our empty dishes at the edge of our table but neither were collected.
We really enjoyed the teriyaki steak, however only wish it was a larger portion for two people. The miso soup was refreshing but was only given in one bowl one spoon for the two of us. The curry katsu udon noodles was also tasty, just make sure to mix everything before eating! We also enjoyed the chicken karaage, the sauce was really nice. Unsurprisingly, the sushi was awesome and we wish the portions were larger for a two person serving! One of our favourite parts of the night was the delicious ice cream, we highly recommend the green tea (tasted like matcha) and black sesame flavours.
Food is quite decent here.
Karaage was juicy but a little bit too ‘deep fried’.
Average quality of salmon and our sushi/sashimi platters came without any kind of tuna -> little bit disappointed.
Service was good and staff was friendly and helpful.
The udon was massive and super filling.
Awesome value and very nice food but I think no bodies fault under staffed is the only reason think we had to wait for the service this is the first time this has happened as I've dined here several times and I will be back and recommend to friends
They overbooked everytime during the weekend. They can't properly accommodate large number of people, late food, understaffed (it's hard to make another order), maybe you should use QR code! The food are so late 20-30 mins and they're cold sometimes. It's hard to move as they squeezing people, which is I found very annoying! Maybe at least, make your customer comfortable. I don't understand why I have to point my table, you should have a table number! Poor management This is our 2nd time of visit and nothing has changed, I'm not coming back here.
The food was amazing but the service was terrible, we made 2 orders, for the first we just got some items but after an hour we were still waiting for the rest, then at 6: 23 we make the 2nd order and we wait it for an hour and we did not get anything. But thank god they have Shayla (I hope is the correct spelling) she was great at solving our problem, very kind and helpful and she got is our food straight away, if you are reading, thank you!
All you can eat? I suggest a name change to “Seconds” because if you have a 2.5 hour service and get served once per hour that’s what it is, it’s 2nds, insipid service and wasn’t even that busy, save your money
Everything was good up until the seafood tempura. We ate all you can eat option. Towards the end of our session I ordered seafood tempura. The first prawn was good. The next one tasted so rotten I had to spit it out. When I complained and said it was rancid, they said "they try their best". Not good enough.
Favourite Japenese restraunt! I have tried other branches although I find Brunswick to be absolutely fantastic quality and service!
This place is amazing! For all-you-can-eat with a cost of less than $40 and you can get great quality of Japanese cuisines, if that's not a steal, I don't know what. Highly recommended!
Fast service and super friendly staff! Ordered takeaway during lockdown so decided to dine in after being pleased with the food. Did not disappoint!
Great sushi with authentic Japanese taste. Love it. Friendly service. Would definitely recommend.
