Neighbourhood Wine reviews
69 Every time I have been here, it’s been amazing. Great waiting staff. Amazing food. Casual but high end at the same time. Had my birthday
Here and everything was smooth sailing - so nice. There’s something about sitting at the bar - watching the cocktails being made - whilst eating delish food and records being played!
Good food let down by indifferent service.
Neighbourhood wine is a bit like the television show. It used to be a pleasant spot but recently it has been befouled by some newcomers who have disturbed the peace. While the food remains good, the new staff are at best ambivalent and at worst recalcitrant when it comes to their job. Despite the name, we were left wondering whether the wine we ordered was in a different postcode as our food arrived long before our drinks. Staff would dutifully walk by us with poise and purpose yet our concerns were met with unapologetic indifference as if we were in the wrong to ask for even the most perfunctory service. This felt more like a neighbourhood party we had awkwardly crashed instead of a welcoming restaurant. After many successful episodes at Neighbourhood Wine, it's time for us to tune in to something different.
To the owners of Neighbourhood Wine do yourself a favour and divorce yourself of the miserable waiter who is destroying any chance of repeat business - and to make it clear he’s the heavy set individual who wears vintage pineapple shirts and an overgrown beard.
I have not experienced this level of negative customer service at a fine dining restaurant for some years. It really was quite shocking and ultimately ruined our night. We left this establishment feeling disgusted. He inadvertently made the $380 worth of food and wine taste awful.
Abrupt, cold, clumsy, unhelpful are just a few words to describe his performance on this particular night. We all have bad days but don’t bring your negative attitude to work - I’m paying your wage!
Generally the portion size was small and the menu was difficult to read and at no point did the Hawaiian shirt wearing man attempt to offer any assistance. It seems as though the owners have been lazy and created a menu which accommodates for both events/parties and regular dining.
Had a lovely Sunday roast. Cost us $80 a head with a couple of drinks. Cosy setting and not too noisy for us old blokes.
Went here for my birthday and everything was simply perfect.
Well furnished and appropriate lighting created a nice atmosphere.
I also really liked the idea of a daily rotating menu. (When you visit, the menu has the current date at the top of it).
The winner for the night was the gnocchi without trying to sound grand it was the best I’ve ever tasted.
The front door is a bit hard to find, but really adds to the character on the venue.
Loved it, service was fantastic, food great, great vibe, open fire, amazing wine list, great music (vinyl).
Something about this place that I love; it inspires me to be that person who stops over after work for a drink at the bar.
75/25 success rate here; 75 goes to the great food, extensive wine list and general environment, and the 25 goes to the sketchy, slow and sometimes cold service. We had a meal recently where the food was delicious, but we had to ask for the first serve of water, request again for the bread we ordered (3 dollars a slice?), very long gap between the entrée and main course and the server hovered over when it was time to choose the tip on the EFTPOS machine.
Nice atmosphere. The wine selection is great although a bit pricey. The one thing that I find annoying is the false advertising: there's a picture of a pool table posted by the owner, we'll there hasn't been a pool table here for years!
My favourite wine bar in Melbourne. Simple, delicious dishes with a terrific wine list. Atmosphere is homely and comfortable. Would highly recommend for a casual lunch/dinner to a special occassion.
