Delicious vegetarian options, reasonable prices, helpful and friendly staff, and quick service. My dad found his meal not very filling, but the waiter did suggest we order something else so that was our own fault. For 2 people, I'd suggest a round 1 and round 2 each, or a few things from round 2 to share. I especially recommend the Soba Noodz which were absolutely amazing.

Wow wow wow! Every time my husband and I have been here since the venue opened we have been blown away not only by the food and drinks but mostly the service.
The staff are always so bubbly and friendly, it says a lot about the culture.
We had the pleasure of spending NYE there this year and despite the current hospitality staff shortages and the venue being run off their feet they did not miss a beat. Our drinks were always full and they continually made the effort to check on us to see how we were traveling. I was 35 weeks pregnant at the time and felt like a queen. Thank you!

Super high prices at the Melbourne summer set. Families had small kids who wanted plain fries essentially same size as maccas medium and they charged 11.50

Love this place! I do however recommend choosing your own dishes so you don't feel too full. I've been here 5 times in the last 7 years and I haven't been disappointed. The cocktails are delicious including their funky names; my favourite is Charlie Does Tokyo. The nori taco is just amazing; I love the contrast of the crunchy nori and soft salmon including the delicious other flavours. The green tea soba noodles are refreshing and again delicious. The Happy's Handroll is always a must because it's different each time and the chef always does a spectacular job. The Bang Bamg Tuna Cracker was an other experience of textures and flavours. We also really enjoyed the Tempura Broccoli, the flavours were subtle and the batter was light and crispy. Just perfect! The desserts were outstanding, we were a group of 5 and shared one plate of each, the Pumpkin Toast and the Chocolate Mess. Our favourite was the Pumpkin Toast hands down. I just can't recommend this place enough!
It's super popular though so I recommend if you're a small group of 5 or less, you can either head early or late to get a table. You can always wait in the nar at the back and drink their delicious drinks!

Disappointing experience after many great ones.
Standard appears to have lapsed and the food isn’t to standard.
The feed me now has an expensive and cheaper version which are both more expensive than it used to be. Feel the cheaper version is probably better value.
An Asian fusion restaurant that served bolognese gnocchi as the “big meal” that was subpar. When the balance is mainly seafood, was weird to have Italian.
Servers didn’t know the wine menu and the bar manager took 20 minutes to come see us after two dishes has already been and gone. Staff for the most part are lovely and not to blame but certainly as having dined there 5+ times the standard has dropped.

One of my favourite spots in Melbourne for a bite to eat. The Tacos just never get old. Just visited after being away up north for almost 3 years and the whole experience was every bit as good as I remember! All the food was epic, staff friendly and the vibe still kicking off. Well done on maintaining such an amazing institution.

As I sat eating the food I kept wondering what was bothering me? Then it hit me. The food concepts are basically rudderless. There isn't anything consistent in style that you could hang a conceptual direction on. Some dishes are so far from fusion you wonder what the creative sources are.

The ramen gnocchi may well be the most unappetising dish I have ever seen. A gluggy bolognaise dish that was served with what looked like dandruff. The Godzilla bean tempura could have been used as a belt drive. Dreadful.

Dish after dish made me wonder what the fusion sources were. In the middle of the salmon nori taco one keeps hoping for a little soy or wasabi impact. But no. Up pops kimchee. So undistributed it played little roll in anything. The soggy bao with overcooked chicken was a disappointment. Two dishes soared. Both were clear about their Japanese roots - the wagyu tataki and the kingfish sashimi.

Staff were excellent. Sake choices high quality.

No tea. Even in a fusion restaurant? Weird. How they justify charging around $20 for tempura broccoli defies economics.

Noise level was too high for my liking. Lighting at our table was a reflected grill. One had to position the menu to read anything.

Paying around $90 per head made this a clear disappointment.

In serious need of a head chef who can reset the rudder and sails.

I highly recommend coming here, we came here tonight and everything was amazing the service is amazing every waiter/ waitress welcomed and served us amazing, the food was sensational never tasted anything better, We got the chefs selection and we were so so happy with it. Everything came out one at a time which we loved because we could try everything without feeling overwhelmed.
10/10 from the service to the food to the drinks.

I’ve been to Mr Miyagi a few years ago and the food was amazing, however not sure if they’ve changed chefs but the food quality has gone downhill significantly. We got the chefs selections and every dish tried to integrate Asian flavours in but everything was executed poorly. The taste of each dish was not developed, lacking depth and flavour. Definitely not worth the money given how pricey it is. The food also took forever to come out. Overall a pretty disappointing experience, I will not be coming back here again.

Limited menu, felt rushed to eat and leave and overpriced for what you received. But other than pushing you to hurry up and leave, atmosphere was good and wait staff helpful.

I was excited to visit Mr. Miyagi with a couple of my friends as I had seen the “most recent” reviews of the place and it looked good. I wish I had seen the lowest reviews before I went here. The entire experience was atrocious, and I’m not usually the one to leave reviews, but this place is worth noting to never visit. Since the moment we stepped into the restaurant, the service was below scum level, constantly being rushed to eat our food and leave. Mind you we paid about $80 each for below mediocre food and then we were asked to take desert as takeaway as we were “running out of time”. Every complaint we made we were responded with “I’ll go talk to the manager” but no follow up was given. The food served was -1/10. KFC fried chicken is better than their tasteless unseasoned doughy fried chicken and there were tiny sharp bones in the salmon nori tacos. That’s not even the worst part. We paid for a set course for 3 people. We were only served 2 desserts. After confronting the waitress, she advised us this is what we get, but it honestly seemed like she couldn’t be bothered getting us a third. When I looked at the place online, it looked like a fine dining restaurant, but much to my surprise, it was like a bloody club. If I wanted to go Laundry Bar, I would’ve gone there. Waste of my money, but please don’t waste yours. Highly recommend not coming here. Also when asked a lady, to tell us the names of the people who served us, she hesitated and gave us two names: Bella and Sarah, which I am pretty sure are made up, because the name on my receipt said GEORGIA. So along with their waitstaff’s service being barbaric, they are also liars. Would’ve given 0 stars if I could.

Amazing food, spectacular service and pretty cool ambience. I absolutely recommend it. The photo below is the summary of the Classic Banquet. Believe me, it's really good and enough food to share. The service is pretty fast which makes it a very efficient experience.

3.5 stars. It’s an okay dining experience, however not spectacular.

Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Not sure if this is Covid related, however food is brought to the table at random, even if you are still haven’t finished the previous dish. At one point we had a number of plates on the table and no space. For this reason we felt a bit rushed.

In our opinion, unfortunately food lacked flavour, for example schnitty bao was underseasoned and chicken was not crispy, Himalayan salt slab kingfish just didn’t have that burst of fresh flavour. In general, for every dish we had today we could think of something similar but better elsewhere.

For the price we expected tastier food.

Pumpkin toast however was good - something new and well balanced.

I was really looking forward to finally having dinner here, but was underwhelmed by the entire experience. The service was unfortunately very poor, and I couldn’t even enjoy the evening as we were being rushed from start to finish. Also, my friend has a dairy allergy and was told to eat around it on the dish. Our waiter kept reminding us we only had a seating of 90 minutes which is fine, but we were being interrupted constantly.

Regarding food, it was quite bland, and the sashimi was a bit fishy as well. The salmon taco was great, but everything else on the menu wasn’t as tasty as I would expect for 70-90 pp for the set menu. I really wanted to like this place as I’ve been waiting to try it, but I won’t be returning.

If you’re in the area and in the mood for great Japanese I would highly recommend Bounty of the Sun in Balaclava.

Food without exception was solid.
Salmon Nori tacos - none of our party experienced any bones.
Fried chicken - delicious and remained hot to the last bite (how?)
Wagyu tatiki - decent but maybe lacking in flavour somewhat
Other fish dish (can't remember exactly) - stunning
Pumpkin toast - wow
Espresso martini w white chocolate foam - too good

Of course the 1 star is taken off because a 90min sitting minus the first 20min of inattention makes for an extremely rushed experience. Kudos to our server for then comping us whatever drinks we wanted in the back bar.

Been here a few times now food and drinks are good. Not sure I would spend as much money on it though.

We had the chefs special feed me

Godzilla beans (4/10) - it's a giant bean in tempura crust
Tacos (9/10)
Kingfish (5/10) - not as flavourful
Wagyu (7/10)
Bao (7/10)

We also had the chocolate mess for desert and have to say that made the night. It was AMAZING! (10/10)

Drinks were really good too.

Eaten here quite a few times. Some dishes are great some are so so. Most people love it. I like it but think it’s a bit pricey for what it is. I would def recommend if you haven’t eaten there before. Also can be hard to park and you need to book.

I have been to this restaurant on many occasions and have enjoyed each visit. The food is sensational, but what I rate highly about the place are the friendly waiters/waitresses assisting you through the whole experience. You’re never left unattended and are always well catered to. The place is aesthetically pleasing and the atmosphere is excellent!

I had a Saturday night booking at Mr M. I can’t speak highly enough of the attentive service we received as a group with a few complex dietary needs. The food was fantastic, the atmosphere was wonderful and it was a great night. Thank you, can’t wait to come back again.

Was excited to come here with friends as the place and food looked very decent in the photos online especially the salmon nori taco.

However-

Service - not great at all, constantly rushed to leave even from the beginning before sitting down. Was forced to get the dessert as takeaway as we were “running out of time”. Every complaint we made we were responded with “I’ll go talk to the manager” but no follow up was given. Careless service yet way over staffed. Hmm that must mean the staff are more attentive to one another rather than their customers.

Food: salmon nori taco was full of small sharp bones. I found 6 in mine. The rice in it was also super mushy.
Miyagi fried chicken was poorly seasoned. Not crispy either.
Despite having paid for a course set each for 3 people, we were only served two desserts. After confronting the waitress, she seemed like she couldn’t be bothered getting us a third (that we paid for). Salmon was served twice as a dish on the set menu - the second dish was the yuzu coral salmon - which is served raw. The marinade and sauce it was mixed in did not suit it and was confusing to taste. The overload of crispy rice noodles was an awkward choice of topping as it didn’t compliment the dish at all and covered the whole dish.

Music was TOO loud. Worse than clubs. Could not talk to my friend next to me without shouting. My ears were ringing after walking out of the place.

Came out of this place without even one positive thing to share. This may even be the first time I will tell people to avoid this place. It’s honestly disheartening to see authentic Asian cuisines be messed around with and be charged a premium for. Sho sho sad.
