A piece of Europe in Melbourne. Great and calm place with lots to see and have a nice walk through.
Rating cafe only. Food was delicious and fairly priced.

A less known dreamy monastery with history. In smaller scale with less tourist, you would have the feeling that you have discovered a secret spot. Sometimes you encounter wedding and thus cannot enter some buildings but it does not necessarily means you will feel bad. There are some small workshops for local artist (carpenter, designer etc) and that is awesome. There is a cafe just next to the entrance.

Such an escape from suburbia or the city. Feels like a little slice of Europe right here in Melbourne. Lots of viewing galleries and not overly expensive.

Beautiful grounds in a beautiful part of Melbourne - 25km north east of CBD. 30 odd minutes drive and a relaxed 90 minutes train ride. Originally an artists' colony (c 1934) it is now a great place for art exhibitions and weddings but there are still a number of artisans residing at Montsalvat.

Great! Grounds and unique buildings were very interesting. Our guide Vincent was excellent, sharing his many years of knowledge with our group. Had lunch at onsite cafe which was nice however a little expensive. Highly recommend.

Stunning heritage buildings. Peacocks wandering through the garden grounds. Artist studios and regular exhibitions. An amazing place to visit for a general wander or for an event. Customer service at the cafe is not always welcoming and there are often partial closures for events.

We got married here in June, was honestly just the most magical day. Really unique venue with lots of photography opportunities. Our photographer and videographer loved us for it. The attic is amazing if you are lucky enough to check it out. Great for a visit, have been to the cafe before too. Great little venue.

We went on a cold winters day and braved the hail and rain before a glimpse of sun came out to reflect sunlight on this beautiful place.
There is a few galleries here with art for sale painted by artists who live or stay at Montsalvat.
Entry was 14 per adult or 10 for a concession.
We enjoyed the wonderful old buildings and taking photos of a time long past.
Recommend packing some warm gloves and a scarf if it's winter, otherwise a picnic would also do well in the summer!

It's cute and transports you to another time, but the entry fees are a little too steep for what it is.

We shared a great day at Montsalvat, a pleasant time and lunched there as well. Fond memories of the place.

We had a wonderful at Montsalvat exploring the medieval inspired buildings. Unfortunately most of which are closed to the public. The ground use to be buzzing with artists working in their quarters but now the place is predominantly a venue for hire. Nevertheless it is still an intriguing place. Not four star because of the conflicting information we got which meant we won't able to explore the grand hall (arguably the main attraction).

Great place for photography.
Warning!
Staff will not know how much to charge for a small photo shoot on the property so better pay enough otherwise you might end up getting chased on the property back to the reception when they realize they did not charge you enough multiple times.
Overwhelming staff and shocking service!

I just photographed my first wedding at Montsalvat and it was an absolute treat. I could have spent hours there covering all of the different things. The attic is amazing if you get the opportunity to inspect it. Staff were great and I hope I get to visit there again soon!

Beautiful gardens and lots of historical buildings, nice for a relaxing day. Some interesting things to see as well as an old church and little workshops from years ago.

It's beautiful building I enjoyed looking around but the reason one star dropped was garden maintainace. This year is so hot so understand the green was dry out.

Amazing arts precinct to explore. You feel transported into another world and another time. There are various different exhibitions by different artists in the numerous gallery spaces as well as lots of small secret artefacts and spaces within the grounds to discover. We went here thinking that we would stay for half an hour but ended up leaving almost 3 hours later.

Good menu, great location. A little on the pricey side and our last visit was slightly weird by a rather insistent "are you really sure you don't want to leave a tip" but when the service was "very laidback" I didn't really enjoy the push for additional on my 75$ breakfast for 2 adults and a toddler.
