Montsalvat reviews
78The French spirit at Montsalvat looks like it is still alive. The place represents the French villages back in ages by the creator artist. The "Saved Mountant" is a place where you can find houses, halls, art studios, and galleries. In present a lot of gatherings, weddings are on as the place is historic and attractive for many people. However, it is a cultural depiction that must visit it and enjoy the surroundings.
One of the most beautiful place in Melbourne. I can’t believe that I just know this place recently!
All of the buildings are magnificent, feels like I’m in Europe with a bit of Harry Potter vibes.
I’m not saying it has the best access for pram but it’s definitely a must place to visit, very picturesque!
Visiting for the first time in over 60 years with the Vespa Club of Melbourne and a promised and prearranged tour by Montsalvat staff to find out the tour person had not turn up! What would you do? Nice gardens, interesting building in a European style, would have loved the context, maybe in another 60 years. Regards, Roy
This place is so magical and it was lovely on a warm spring day with flowers blooming everywhere. You feel like you are deep in an ancient European city. A delight. Unfortunately, the cafe closes their kitchen far earlier than it says on the website and they didn’t call back when I made attempts to book over the phone, sadly the only booking option. That area doesn’t deserve 5 stars.
The location of amazing and loved it but the cafe was not so great. Food was cold and took more than 40 min to give a coffee and croissant.
Artist paradise, very interesting and lots to see, recommend anyone to come along and experience this place.
It's like visiting Downton Abbey and Hogwarts. An amazing grounds filled with fantastic artwork. It's like visiting a castle from your favourite childhood fairytale. We visited for afternoon tea and wondered around the gardens. It will be amazing soon when there's a few more flowers in bloom.
The receptionist with the brimless cap at Montsalvat Art Centre is truly exceptional. He greeted me with a warm smile and made me feel very welcome. Thankyou. 10/10
Awful.terrible customer service in the cafe over the weekend
Senior female wait staff had applurable customer service and terribly belittling and rude
Highly priced menu just does match the expected quality noted on the menu
Could not even get kids nuggets n chips right just overcooked and dry Bland tasting pasta No way were the calamari fresh and parmigiana dry and no taste
Would never return.senior female staffer should not be in hospitality.
Follow up call with manager.just lip service as expected
Will spend family time when dining out definately not a Monsalvat
The Montsalvat tour is very interesting and worthwhile. I had no idea what was behind the cafe! Our tour girl was very knowledgable.
If anything, we would have liked more of a lunch menu in the cafe, pretty much everything was restaurant-style (and pretty expensive).
Beautiful setting.
Worth a visit for the replica old buildings.
Set on rolling hills with art/workshops scattered around the large landscape.
Visits on weekends seems less busy due to the workshop being closed.
They have guided tours available (unsure if there is a fee).
Feels like a world away from Melbourne! Leisurely wander the grounds and soak in the ambiance and art, keep an eye out for the stunning resident peacocks (and peahen!) and make sure you pop into the cafe at the end of it all for a well deserved glass of wine and a bite to eat. Great place to visit during all 4 seasons - although if you get the chance to visit at night during Winterfest, the architecture of the buildings really comes into its own and it is just magic.
Melbourne's best kept secret.
An artists haven.
Excellent concert venue.
Atmosphere aplenty.
Montsalvat is something!
This is a place that all of age groups can visit. Europeans architecture, art, cafe, beautiful gardens, birds, an old church, a dining hall that can accommodate 100 guests, a beer garden with a pool. This place has it all.
There is a lot to learn about Art.
Only about 30 mins from CBD this can be a perfect day/half trip.
A perfect idea for a casual date, family/friends day out.
The cafe makes it icing on the cake.
Amazing place for a day out. Great place for a picnic and a tour of the galleries and a walk through memory lane.
Totally worth the visit. Seeing peacocks walking in front of you is amazing. Lovely garden and relaxing vibe.
The gardens need some maintenance. The buildings are nice. Was a little disappointed with the Art festival. Good place to see but probably not go again.
There are a few poké stops and a gym here but it’s hard to get in terrible for Pokémon go users
Montsalvat was at the top of our wedding venue preferences. The initial venue tour went well and the buildings were beautiful. However communication soon deteriorated, with the Events Team taking an average of a week and a half to respond to simple email enquiries, before completely ceasing despite repeated requests for follow up on unanswered emails. To date, it has been over a month since the Events Team has provided us with any email correspondence. From the beginning of our involvement with Montsalvat, the Events Team has been almost impossible to contact via phone despite calling on multiple different days and times that are listed as office hours for the Events Team. The Events Team has only responded to one phone call, the call made for the initial venue tour booking. No calls have been answered since. After this experience, we will not be holding our wedding at Montsalvat.
Hardware - amazing
Software - disappointing
The owner needs to jump in to make sure the business is running ok.
