Montsalvat reviews
78 Historic adventure awaits as you look at art though what seems like a castle. Daytime drinks al fresco are recommended. There is a restaurant, strangely it was closed when we went to the winter solstice event which was thoroughly enjoyed by adults and kids. The lantern making was outstanding kids loved running around the grass hills.
Disability access moderate. We could access most of the main buildings and disabled toilet.
Extraordinary collection of lovely buildings, picturesque grounds and fascinating artistic vision.
Wonderful place to visit. Artistic community. Gothic French-style buildings created in the 1930s. Restaurant too.
Turned up at the restaurant with no booking on a wet day, so outside seating was not an option. We were told we need to book 2 weeks ahead to sit inside, so we turned to go and eat elsewhere. On the way to the car park, very nice gentleman called us back, saying a couple with child had elected to sit outside under cover, so we could take their inside table! Very good experience, great lunch! Recommend
I had never been it's a day outside Melbourne a short feeling country side.old building chapel n medieval feeling n a cafe too. Art gallery work lots to see too of all sorts.
I was totally mezmerised by this place. The history, architecture and grounds had me feeling like we stepped into a time machine. Montsalvat is a truly special and enchanting place and I love it that we have it right here in our suburb.
What a wonderful venue to spend an afternoon! The buildings could be straight outta Europe and the grounds allow for pleasant picnics & plenty of photo ops.the afternoon we were there they had a bar open which added to the enjoyment! We didn't eat at the cafe but the food looked good. A shout out to the staff who were very friendly and happy to help.
Very good place for visiting with your family and friends. You can book the restaurant or bring your food and have it in the garden
Stunning views, and such Gothic feels. Pity it isn't just a little better maintained, but I am not sure where the funding comes from or how it's managed. Definitely worth a visit.
Beautiful food and surroundings, we will visit again. Thank you for taking care of such an iconic place.
This is a old art village located in the Eltham area. The place is more than a 100 years
Old and is used mainly for artists. This place is a interesting place for a day visit or a picnic but as all are centres are it is a quite day out
Beautiful old buildings in a picturesque setting. This place looks amazing, it's quite large and there's lots to do here. They have several artwork exhibitions and the old church and other buildings are amazing. It's like stepping back in time when you visit. I would recommend this place, the only negative was that you can only use your phone to take photos. I had to leave the DSLR in the car. Still worth checking out though. There is also a cafe on the premises.
Had "brunch" here. Went with the corn fritters! Didn't disappoint. Was absolutely delicious. The old buildings were very cool, I like the bricks actually. They go vertical AND horizontal The paintings weren't really my cup of tea, but art is like that. You like some, you don't like some. Seems a lovely place if you're getting married. The photos were stunning of other weddings that have been there.
Pokey 'free gallery' in the insipid entry hall leads to unfriendly notices about extraordinary charges and ridiculous conditions on allowed photos. Café was booked out and unavailable. Had lovely memories of this place but it's now rubbish. Head to Heidi instead of you'd like an experience that won't leave a sour taste.
A lovely place for a walk, a picnic, or some quiet contemplation. The grounds a beautiful and the bride will delight small children. There are lots of interesting nooks to discover, and always changing gallery displays.
The beautiful Montsalvat is one of the most scenic locations we’ve had the pleasure of chauffeuring our brides and grooms to in our Mustangs, for their weddings and bridal shoots. Its stunning buildings are simply magical and rich with history, and the grounds are so picturesque. We highly recommend Montsalvat to anyone wishing to book a wedding or photoshoot. Wonderful buildings and art exhibtions.even clasdical music by piano and cello playing Saint Saens and Chopin recital. Great cafe with amazing foid and coffee.
Make it a must do on your list of outings.
Tha place is a form of therapy by itself.
First you can arrive and get a nice breakfast at the cafe, then you can watch the painting galleries, continue walking through the Victorian buildings, and lastly, spend some time meditating on the beautiful garden between all the flowers.
Came for a wedding. Beautiful place but the hall where we had food was extremely crowded. I could not move my chair and was facing backwards to the wedded couple. Disorganised and frustrating to get food as it was ‘buffet’ style.
What an amazing & Beautiful experience. My Son who married his gorgeous Wife Sarah (Boyd), on the 26th Oct 2019. The entire family & friends were very humbled indeed. Thank you immensely ️ Mother of the Groom.
