Metro Hobbies reviews
81I was very pleased with the experience at Metro Hobbies in the city. I've had a number of poor experiences (including at other Metro Hobbies) elsewhere, because hobby shop staff can be condescending or use your lack of knowledge to upsell. In contrast, the man at the trains desk was very patient listening to a 9-year-old's question, and was very helpful guiding with a selection (and even helpfully discouraged a purchase that would have been too ambitious). Moreover, once he understood my son's interests, he shared some history about Japanese battleships and some anecdotes, and even ended up providing us some relevant day-trip naval destinations around Melbourne. This is the kind of experience that fosters kids' interests and keeps people coming back.
Great store, got everything you can ask 4, awesome shop, customer service and nice diecast models!
Website stock was innacurate; missing a product despite explicitly saying it was instock.
**Update**
To be more specific, check stock in store listing was innacurate.
Went and bought 2 model F1 cars, worth $600 in total, with Joshua helping me through out the whole sale process. As I was flying out later that day, Joshua gave me tips on how to travel without them getting damaged and was very careful with handling them in store. This was until another employee come over to help, this other employee was not only rough with packaging the car but also pulled the protective cover off aggressively from the base the car was on ruining the rubber seals. He did this to find a label on it that says what model it is so they can find the box for it, rather than check the label on the shelf. As this was a collectors item, doing this has potentially devalued the car significantly. Other then this, great store with a wide range of everything with good prices, just disappointed with the care from this one employee while Joshua was great.
What a great Hobby store. So much to see and choose from. If you like hobbies then this is the store for you. Nice staff we have to point out Arthur who not only told us about some lovely pieces in your store but also telling us about online ordering, as we are visiting from Perth. Which is hard to take back on the plane.talking about the big Mississippi. As my husband had made one similar. He also helped us out with purchasing some tickets. We had lovely experience today on the Puffing Billy steam railway train.
Thanks to ARTHUR, who just by luck after we entered your store-
*Metro Hobbies, 257 Burke St,
Arthur, we were talking, too, helped us out with ordering tickets online in advance, so we were not going to be disappointed at the opening gates Puffing Billy, by not getting a ticket. Arthur showed us exactly how to order our tickets. He told us he volunteers for Puffing Billy. He also told us his mum worked at Puffing Billy. And we got to meet his mum Marge. Thank you to Arthur for great customers service and going above and beyond to help us out also with some tickets. You should be highly commended by your boss and owner of the store. 2 happy customers
Super helpful and knowledgeable service! Great range and good prices. Will definitely be back thanks. These days I know I can do this style of shopping online but for the great service and information I received here, I’d much rather go in store!
Excellent service. Staff are always polite and helpful with enquiries. Also acknowledgement and reply to emails is quick.
I recently purchased the Hornby Centenary Lion train pack. The items in the pack have many fragile parts. The pack was very well packaged and appropriately labelled fragile and handle with care. Pack contents arrived in very good condition and the Lion steam loco ran very well first time on the track.
I went to another, rather well known hobby shop, looking for train track for my son. After 10 minutes of being ignored, I understandably left.
I went to Metro Hobbies and the difference could not be more stark. Arthur engaged straight away, and was extremely helpful. He is obviously very enthusiastic about model trains, and was eager to help.
He is an asset to that business, and has ensured that I am a loyal client from now on.
Thank you Arthur and the team at Metro Hobbies.
Friendly staff who know what their talking about, nice place to take it all in and a break from the hustle and bustle on street level
I always have a good experience here, staff are quick to greet customers walking in and are very helpful. Only issue I have is the location.first world problems ahahaha. Keep up the good work
Metro hobbies is a great place to visit in person. The on-line aspect of the store is the let down. System glitches that over sell items, ok, i get it, technology sucks sometimes. But when the customer needs to follow up, due to a lack of customer service and then only to be told about the error, that's the poor part.
Maybe a little bit more of a thorough stock take is required, because it is not the first time that your store says it has an item at a location, only to go in and be told that it is not actually there.
Just walked out of metro hobbies in Melbourne CBD, walked in at 12: 45pm, found what I wanted, was at the counter, staff looked at me a few times and kept on doing what they were doing, walked out at 12: 58pm with nothing in my hands. Is it any wonder stores like this are closing down.
Seriously, I will never come to this store again. The clerk in this store is suspicious of you like the Gestapo. I paid with a combination of two cards. The POS machine showed that it was successful, but the clerk still asked me to wait a while. This is obviously their system problem, and they see that I'm Asian and I'm out of their sight for a while just ask to check my backpack, other people with backpacks are not checked, I have never encountered this situation in other stores, I recommend the staff of this store to work in the intelligence agency, they are a good fit there.
Great small sized hobby shop with a large range of different products. However, while there is variety there is a lack of options for each genre of products compared to other hobby stores but it could be because of the size. The staff are friendly but tend to be reserved. You usually must approach them if you need something first. Their customer service can improve by encouraging staff to approach customers first, welcome them and ask if they need help. There is no accessibility as you need to go down a set of stairs to attend. In all, I always enjoy my small window shopping dates with my partner here haha!
Wonderful hobby shop. Great staff, awesome selection and the price checker is a great idea for a shop with such a diverse range of products! From a kiwi builder
Amazing service. Had a huge variety of items and had friendly staff dedicated to have happy customers. I got into a whole new hobby just from this shop! They have everything you need to start a new hobby.
I've purchased numerous items online from this business and never had an issue. I arrived at this store today hoping to explore and look around to find that there is no wheelchair access at all. A dampener on the trip.
These guys are comptitive with thier Gunplas. If ever you are looking for a model kit in Melbourne, check it with them first. You may be glad you did.
Customer service is excellent as Dennis did his best to accommodate all of my queries and provided with the best solutions. Super friendly!
Awesome staff, awesome stock, awesome service! Can sometimes be a bit low on the model train stock but it’s no fault of you guys. I’ve had no bad experiences with this store. Arthur and Mike in the train section are always up for a good chat and are enthusiastic about their job, same goes with all the other staff. Always a great place to check out when in the CBD:)
