Melba Restaurant reviews
77 Such a great selection of seafood, especially oyster
Staffs were very friendly and nice
Definitely will come back!
The days were customer service existed are gone. Tried to call for over an hour with no answer.
Great venue with a lovely river view. First time visiting here and found the staff friendly and helpful. The food was fantastic and incredibly varied. It was all fresh and also beautifully presented. Coffee was also great. Must say anywhere with a chocolate fountain gets my vote. DEFINATELY recommend you save your dollars and come for the buffet lunch.
Came here on a Monday night dinner. I had the buffet while my partner who is celiac ordered from the ala carte menu as the buffet reasonably could make no guarantees about cross-contamination.
Her roast lamb came out dry and lukewarm and had to be remade, and the gluten free bread was supermarket quality. Ala carte service was very slow. The portions were however very generous.
As far as the buffet, a mixed bag.
- Indian had fresh naan made right for you which was delightful. The curries were rather bland but the chutneys were excellent.
- sashimi was sliced very inconsistently and unpleasantly thick and chewy
- pork belly was perfect
- other roasts were average if sightly dry
- dim sum was excellent
- oysters were well sized and pleasant
- both the prawns and the lobster were overcooked to the point of being chalky
- cheese and salad bar was competent as would be expected
- dessert selection was excellent and the quality was surprisingly high
The final frustration was the restaurant's blanket refusal to bag up the remainder of my partner's enormous ala carte (not buffet) dish for alleged "food safety" concerns, which is ridiculous given that this is absolutely standard literally anywhere.
Overall, the experience and selection was nice, but for the price, I could not recommend it. The food quality is in no way commiserate with the price.
My buffet lunch at Melba restaurant was exquisite and I thoroughly enjoyed it! It was my first time visiting Melba and the wide range of seafood and desserts along with many other food from across Australia made my experience ever so satisfactory. The freshness of the seafood was beyond my expectations. The sashimi just melted in my mouth, and the soup with a subtle hint of truffle tasted utterly delicious! The tiramisu and creme brulee were my absolute favourites. To top it off, a big thank you to the cheerful and attentive lady who served our table. (sorry I didn’t get your name). Your genuine attitude to make sure we’re well taken care of and your sincere birthday wish to my husband really made our visit so memorable. Thank you
When did the prices increase and the quality decrease? Not worth the money. Very short on variety and just found myself eating the same sort of plate over and over again. Soft drink and juices should be added into the price and I’ve seen a better dessert choice at fast food venues. NOT AS GREAT AS I REMEMBER IT. Get with the times.
It was supposed to be a real surprise gift for my sister who came all the way from Canada for my daughter’s wedding, however it was a full disappointment! Food was cold, and vegetables are not fresh. No variety of food yet price is expensive. Japanese section had virtually nothing! Normal water in thee glasses were fish smelly. Overall too expensive but little. I am never gonna go again!
Took my little brother here after not seeing him for a year couple nights ago. For both of us it cost over $300 for a bottle of red and the buffet. I’m no chef and even I can cook better tasting food than this. For the buffet we both had I’d value it at $40 each. For $150 each, it should have been stunning food, it was little better than what you would expect to see at your average 4 star hotel buffet, where you would also see that like at Melba the food isn’t fresh.
Do yourself a favour, instead of blowing this kind of cash here, assuming you know the basics of applying heat to food, spend $100.00 on fresh produce from the Vic markets and cook yourself. It will taste far better, be actually fresh and won’t make u feel like you have been ripped off.
Melbourne restaurants are all circling the drain it seems, Melba being no exception.
I was very disappointed with the quality and food! Seafood is not fresh and less choose than the price expensive as well.
Dated furniture, average food, not replenished often enough and not set out well either.
Half the restaurant were not wearing marks and I was targeted quite aggressively, I believe based on my appearance (heavily tattooed body and head)
Thought we'd try somewhere different but won't be going back.
For 150 a head I'll go to the conservatory.
Top notch service and top notch food. We went on a Friday evening and they let us stay as long as we liked (until it closed, anyway). Would happily go back.
Plenty of food. Great service. But some of the seafood was a hour to long from the defrosting. Very slushy
Ornate decor, tour the world with a dinner buffet selection covering, Italian, French, Asian, Indian, Seafood and Japanese. The views across the river and city make a great backdrop.
Something about the Melba isn’t the same anymore. It really doesn’t have the same ambience or freshness as it once did. I would give it a 3.5 stars overall. My new favourite is the Conservatory.
I can only compare this to an overpriced Sizzler. The only thing that was worth it was the sushimi/sushi section.
The wait staff where amazing and kept our table clean and drinks filled.
However, when paying all we received was angry, rude and unprofessional customer service. Asking us to work out splitting a bill of 663 in half.then telling us to move off the counter. Up until then I would have rated it 3 stars.
This place has a large selection of lovely food and desserts with a beautiful view. I highly recommend it for families because everyone can choose what they like. My only complaint is, last time we went, the food lacked seasoning, otherwise it’s a great place to visit.
Restaurant was very well presented with adequate staff. Food was freshly prepared infeont of you and frequently replenished.
Danny manger at Melba didn’t treat us right, Langham is a good place to go but stay away from Danny Melba manger not helpful and we found him bit rude. Won’t go again to Melba because of Danny.
Melba is an absolute disgrace to proper buffets! We had Christmas Eve lunch in 2020 and 2021 and the buffet was below average both years. The service was even more shocking! Clearly, Langham recruited a bunch of Christmas casuals who couldn’t careless about service with horrible attitudes. We had to struggle for more than 10 minutes every single time to get attention of a waiter. We were served by an extremely rude and unfriendly Indian waitress who had the attitude of a CEO. Langham management should give proper customer service training to these minimum wage waiters before they start serving people. Don’t recommend Melba. Save your time and money.
We have been to the Melba Buffet three times in the last two years and our most recent visit has been the most disappointing. Variety of food seems to be down but most importantly, the quality of food seems to have gone significantly down hill. We went as a party of four for a Christmas dinner with friends and all four of us left feeling not so well.
