Marion reviews
71 Excellent casual dining experience. Food was exceptional and reasonably priced. Came here for a birthday lunch for a friend and we had a fantastic experience. Great service all round, never had to call any staff over. Looking for an excuse to come back already: D
We ordered:
Flat whites (coffee)
Grilled Rump Cap
Flathead & Nettle
Overall food quality and tastes were different to anything we have had before which is real refreshing.
I always enjoy the Marion experience and was looking forward to taking a visiting friend from Berlin for a casual Friday lunch. Again, it did not disappoint. The prawn and horseradish roll, a perfect starter, followed by whole baby snapper meunière accompanied by bean/nut salad. All absolutely sublime choices. Great wine list but we opted for Hugo spritz. A totally delicious lunch surrounded by friendly courteous staff. Who could ask for anything more? Marion, you are a keeper!
Didn’t love it, didn’t hate it. Service was a bit off, attitude from the servers.
All the smaller dishes were great, especially the mussels and duck. Mains were a bit lack lustre in flavour, and deboning a whole snapper for the table took more than the eating did.
Wine list is fantastic though.
Great food: lunch for one and had the agnolotti, house bread and half a side salad (kindly offered me to half it without me having to ask), a nice beer on tap and some great wines.
Pricey but genuinely good wine bar meets restaurant. Sitting up at the counter overlooking the kitchen is, for me, the best place to be.
I had high expectations given all the positive reviews and the fact Marion is run by the same team behind the excellent Builder's Arms Hotel. However, the food didn't quite rise to the occasion and certainly wasn't memorable enough to warrant the price. It didn't help that our main dish, the roast chicken, was still pink on the inside. Having said that, the mussells and strawberry dessert were exceptional. But with so many high quality competitors like nearby Congress, I won't be rushing back.
Poor service and overpriced food. Awful experience. Waiters completely ignored us for the first 20 minutes. The next table came at the same time have already got their main course, but we have not even got our drinks. After that, our glass stayed empty for more than three times, it was impossible to make eye contact with any waiter to make an order.
Marion serves the best asparagus in our opinion. Grilled lightly to perfection with their secret sprinkle and beautiful presentation. We were sitting next to their open kitchen (which is great to see the action) and they were popular! In fact, everything we had was really good. Fresh produce executed to a very high standard on all our orders - confit duck leg, crudo (kingfish), jamon, flatbread. The only dish we weren’t crazy about was the oyster. Think it was the type of oyster. We couldn’t ‘slide’ in our oysters Despite this, still worth 5!
We love our Tempranillo and this was the finest we’ve ever had - even though it was one of the lower price range from their red bottle list
We were amazed to see lady head chef leading the kitchen crew (all men) when we were there
All in all, our curiosity pays off. One great wine bar ️
One of my go to’s in melbourne, you won’t be disappointed! Great selection of wines and simple flavoursome food.
Delicious food, and a great wine selection. A delightful chic atmosphere with awesome service.
The Tiramisu was amazing.
An absolutely beautiful restaurant with New York trattoria vibes. I was extremely well taken care of there as a vegetarian, enjoying a set menu brimming with fresh and vibrant veggie dishes. The soft, pillowy bread and cheese-filled choux was a great starting point. Next up were various vegetable dishes including artichokes on a bed of chimichurri, a delicious buffalo mozzarella and ridichio salad, creamy butter beans topper with pecorino, and asparagus with a wonderful green herb sauce.
My main dish was a delicate, housemade pasta topped with goat cheese and my dessert was one of the most rich and boozy tiramisus I've had in a while. Of course, a visit to Marion isn't complete without wine, of which there are several to choose from.
