Man Tong Kitchen reviews
72 We should have known it was going to be bad when the grumpy hostess seated us (Friday 13th of May) no menu no offer of a drink. It took 15 mins and several attempts to attract a server who tried their best to ignore us to get the menu. Over priced bland fried rice. Tough steak in the black bean, over cooked sesame prawns. No water for us even though every other table had.
Time to try somewhere else.
DO NOT GO HERE! THEY MADE US PAY $190.00 FOR FOOD WE DIDNT EVEN GET TO EAT! THEY TOOK 1 HOUR TO SERVE DUMPLINGS AND SOUP. WHEN WE REQUESTED TO LEAVE THEY ONLY GAVE US 20% OFF INSTEAD OF O LY CHARGING US WHAT WE ATE! THIS PLACE IS A SCAM
Amazing. ;)
Everything we ordered was delicious
Meat do tender and great flavours
If I was to eat Asian again at crown it will definitely be this place over and over
Im really curious to find out who runs this place. The lady waitress wearing a black dress uniform on 22nd April must be related to the owner of this place. Otherwise I have no idea how someone with that rude attitude can work in the hospitality industry. She is the rudest waitress I have ever been served. This restaurant will lose more customers from keeping her.
Very Disappointed in all aspects of hospitality!
The food, service, timing ect ect.
The price of the food does not much the quantity at all.
Don't waste your money.
Food was absolutely disgusting meat was tough beef and black bean did not taste like beef and black bean salt and pepper squid was all batter struggled to eat it could not finish the meal waste of money do not eat here my friend who also ate there as well found the same
We had banquet C which is $108.80 per person.
It was disappointing and not up to our standard.
The Peking duck pancake is thick and duck is tasteless.
Fried rice is bland. Contrary to the fried rice, the Mongolian beef is over powering with sauce. One bite to the beef, we could not even have a second bite.
The ambience was pleasant and service was okay.
Won’t want to waste any calories in this restaurant.
Decor reminds me of authentic chinese restaurants in China. Made me a little homesick. Food was fantastic, only one draw back, had to wait a long time for our beef dish to arrive, but overall excellent.
Highly recommended!

Hi
The food is always outstanding, the flavours take me back to when I visited China in the 2003.
The Workers from kitchen to greeting are very friendly and professional.
We did go to celebrate my partner’s birthday and have been there before.
They were understaff but they gave as complimentary drinks and offered desert also and a 10% discount.
So they come trough with colours.
I understand very well that in this times, you don’t know what to expect and as a business owner and working in health you can sympathise with all the challenges.
Thank you for the lovely food.

Had a reservation but when we got there there was no table. No apologies, no explanation. Had to wait 20 mins. Very unfriendly restaurant lady manager.
Food didn't come together. One dish at a time. So annoying. We finished the meal and the last dish came. We had to do the takeaway. Peking duck was worst. Very dry and cold.
Not going again. Wasted our time and money.
Just to be clear this is a Review of Man Tong Express in Food Court. We tried to go to main restaurant but it was closed by 2.30pm on a Thursday. Where do I start? Bloody awful. My friend has a peanut allergy so he asked if any dishes contained peanuts. Nobody there knew, which I'm pretty sure they're meant to under Safe Food Handling Laws, so they would not serve him. I reluctantly ordered a plate with Fried Rice Sweet & Sour Pork, Honey Chicken and Crispy Squid. Everything was dry, old food that was barely warm. The pork was difficult to chew, likewise the chicken. I blame myself for ordering squid from a Bain Marie. That was always going to be chewy, cold and not crispy and it was all of those things. I've had better Chinese at Werribee Plaza Food Court. I will edit and add to this review if I come down with food poisoning! The food is certainly the perfect, slightly warm temperatures that bacteria thrives in. The main restaurant would have to be better. Could not be worse. A reluctant one star with a health warning!
Place looks fancy. BUT
Chairs are all worn out, scratched and looks terrible.
The waitress didn't speak good English had to point items on the menu and make sure she knew what we pointed to.
Beef brisket was so under cooked struggled to eat it.
Lamb cumin was super fatty battered and couldn't taste the meat if there was any
What a joke. I asked if the Mongolian lamb is spicy, as my kids can’t eat spicy food. They confirmed it is only sweet, no spice at all. So I ordered it. One bite and it was so spicy my kids couldn’t eat it. I told them when I went to pay why the dish was still on the table and the lady was trying to tell me that there is no spice at all in a Mongolian dish, it must have just been hot. What a joke. I think I know the difference between spicy and the dish just being a hot temperature. Never going there again. I told them they need to learn what spicy is and taste the sauces like a proper chef is suppose to do when someone needs a dish that isn’t spicy. The duck was very salty also. Only thing my kids could eat was the fried rice. We had to go someone else to feed my kids. Shame on you for lying.

Absolutely love Man tongs, delicious food everytime, lovely staff and great cocktails! The dumplings are so delicious and the BEST fried rice you can get in Melbourne. If you haven't tried out Man tongs yet, I highly recommend you do. You won't be disappointed
Negitive: 1/5 The service by what looked like male host & female bar tender were very rude. Yes, we didn't have a booking but, I agree with other reviews. Myself and my quests were looked up and down by male host and told there were no tables available. I pushed for a table by saying "how long is the wait, we can sit at the bar and drink" pretty much got ignored then I said it again. At the bar the bar maid was extremely rude when we asked politely for a wine menu. She may have been busy but, being ignored all together is not a Great feeling.
Non-Asian profiling is what it felt like.
Tried to get names of both however, bar maid didn't have her name tag & male host seemed to be avoiding our table however, he was still staring us down everytime he walked past. We felt like we weren't welcome. We asked for a second bottle of wine and after 20mins didn't get it so, spoke to waitress and cancelled it. However, we saw the bar maid walking with it behind her back as if she was hiding it.
Positive: 5/5
Host/Waitress named Jenny was absolutely amazing she made us feel welcome and was prompt and polite. She deserves a promotion. The young male staff member in training was absolutely amazing he asked us about our meal and was overall giving the impression he likes his job!
He should take the position of the other male host.
Food was amazing 5/5. We had the chicken Corn soup, duck, vego & pork dumplings along with an amazing vego meal consisting of Mushrooms&bochoy. The sauce on the mushrooms was beautiful! Prices are fair for the food you get. However, the menu does start from as little as $11 up to $300 for meals.
All together was a good meal, I would give 5/5 however, service was unprofessional by some.
No face masks at the back (kitchen) and some their staff members do not wash their hands after the toilet visit. You’d need a steel stomach to dine there!
We did not have a booking for a Friday night dinner with friends.however we were lucky to get a table after waiting for 20 mins.they dint have any seating available for couples though! So advice to book and go.
The food was delicious, food was served pretty quickly and loved the wontons and the fish fillets in chilli oil.a must try! A word of caution the food is really spicy.
Lovely ambiance and the staff was a little busy that day.we had to ask repeatedly for cutlery as we weren’t comfortable using the chopsticks.
Overall a wonderful place to go for some yummy Chinese food.
So dissappointed, we have had quite a few good meals here over the years, but last nites was embarrassing. Food was ok, but took forever, no customer service at all, not rude, but so understaffed not funny. Ironically, to be charged 17% surcharge for public holiday was a crime. This surcharge is supposed to cover the additional wages paid to staff for penalty rates on a public holiday, but I ask. "what staff? What service? " I guess upper management/owners pocketed that for themselves & left their workers to struggle on steady (not busy) nite.
We left feeling unsatisfied, and ripped off.
Doubt we'll return.
Waited over 1 hour and still had no food had to ask for water for the table worst service ever, we ended up Walking out will never return.wouldn't recommend this place
