Lobster Cave - Seafood Restaurant Melbourne reviews
68 Thank you for a great service night, we felt truly like we were on our own in a full booked restaurant. Amazing fresh sea food! The paella is a must have!
Service is friendly. Will come back again.
Our dining experience was nothing short of Devine. Just like the hidden laneway establishments in the CBD this is indeed one rare hidden Gem.
From the impeccable and most courteous service to the world class menu.
I've dined at restaurants around Europe and even Venice that couldn't compare to the seafood and especially marinara here.
The platters are well worth the menu prices.
We will be back.
Food was average, ran out of some of the selections on the menue. Service was good bordering on hovering. Very expensive for what you get. I feel you are paying for the name. We have had better sea food meals for a more reasonable price.
The food is amazing. However, the waiters are a bit dishonest. It feels like they are out there to make you spend more. Ordered a French white wine, was told they ran out and recommended a more expensive red wine, which they didn't realise we wanted white instead of red. Ended up finding the initial bottle of white wine we wanted. We asked for garlic bread ($15) but they served us antipasto instead, which was twice the price. If they are unsure of the order, they should have clarified and not try to make us order the more expensive food. We ordered the premium selection which was supposed to come with 2 Canadian lobsters but instead it only came with 1 Rock lobster. The rock lobster is much bigger but I'd rather the staff told me beforehand that they don't have enough Canadian lobsters and be upfront about it. Not wait for the customers to question why they were supposedly short changed. Also, the fish which was meant to come with the premium platter was not in the platter. On the up side, they gave complimentary starter and dessert with Port. Word of advice for people who are planning to go there, make sure you are clear with what your order because they might assume that you always want the more expensive dish.
Great service and ambience. The staff were great with our kids as well, having an activity book for them to use. Nice touches with additional appetisers. Overall the food is really good as well, although on this day we did get a particularly chewy steak. It won't stop us going back though, I'd recommend them
Overpriced and overcooked. Paying in excess of $300 for two inedible lobsters, drinks and sides lives in my memory as one of my worst dining experiences ever. 1 star for the drinks.
Excellent food however the service was pretty average. I was offended as the only three dark skinned waiters were made to wear white gloves when all Caucasian waiters didn’t wear any gloves. I thought that was pretty disgusting.
Have been here about 4 times in the past year. The first 3 were impeccable and worth the money. However, with a menu change and possibly new management the last dining experience left much to be desired. This would be acceptable if the cost of dining wasn't so high. Can't say we'll be back
Awesome experiences! Love the menu love the 5 star quality taste and love the atmosphere. Waiting staff are always on hand and very friendly. Always choose it for my special family occasions and will be back again soon
Ate here last week - all fresh and delicious with generous portions.
Particularly enjoyed the prawns and scampi but the lobster was also really flavoursome.
Staff were really responsive and happy to tell me about the menu options - my only regret is that i ate too much.
It's great that they're attentive and you don't have to wait around for your order to be taken, wine refills etc, but the up selling here is incredibly frustrating. We only wanted to order half a lobster each and was told 'we don't really do that, because they're small' even though it states on the menu you can do half. It was infact too much, as we all had oysters, chowder and bread beforehand, so we ended up wasting nearly half a lobster each. Lost count of how many times we said no to ordering more food. Just felt like they were a bit desperate for sales. Food didn't taste that great either. Won't be going back.
We had never been before and were so looking forward to the seafood. The service was really good but because we had a coupon that was supposed to be worth $200.00 We got a different menu and ordered the lobster tail which was very disappointing not even any meat in the legs not in a hurry to go back.
Dined here many occasions, always enjoy experience. Yes it can be expensive. Table of 7, we weren't impressed with the waiter hovering over the shoulder of a guest on our table who was checking the bill while he held onto the EFTPOS machine waiting for us to pay. You just do not do that to guests.
Keep coming back here for the food and service.never fails to impress. Always trying to find a good reason to celebrate any occassion here
Staff are always patient and friendly i wish more restaurants trained their wait staff the same
When you walk into Lobster cave you just know it's going to be a good experience as the restaurant is so beautiful and the wait staff instantly make you feel at home.
The quality of the seafood and steak was of the highest level. Every single dish they brought out was well prepared, and truely complimented the initial impressions of the restaurant.
Highly recommend the Furg Burger if you want to treat yourself. It had so much going on it was hard to start, but once you commence you can't stop!
Thank you for a fantastic experience.
We had a last minute idea to see if by some fortune The Lobster Cave could fit us in without a reservation. We totally understood if they couldn’t, but thought we would ask. The waitress that greeted us was very rude, but it so happened they had a table out front available. Lovely.
She asked if we wanted the wine list, I didn’t and when hubby asked for what beers they had, she almost seemed put out by it; taking his beer order and walking off so quick we had to call her back with my drink order.
When she had to say something, she would walk off mid sentence and we wouldn’t catch the end of what she was saying. We weren’t ready to give our meal order when she asked so then we had to wait for quite some time for her to return to take our order. We then had to wait a very long time for our seafood platter to arrive, which we were fine about and didn’t even mention it, but when she delivered the cutlery she apologised for our meals taking so long because a couple of large tables got in with their orders just before us.
She did warm up but unfortunately we were so disappointed in her service by then, we didn’t trust that it just wasn’t because she was getting close to tip time.
The food was fine but very underwhelmed by all of it. Eaten at far nicer restaurants than this one and will not return and do not recommend.
Great Restaurant, I recommend that if you are Rich you will enjoy great food and great service. I do not recommend to go to the Lobster Cave with a Groupon or Scoopon voucher as you will not get the quality or the quantity that is cleverly portrayed by Scoopon or Groupon. By all mean enjoy the dinner or lunch at the Lobster Cave but you need to pay the full price to really enjoy it.
Service was quick and efficient. We had a Groupon voucher which supposedly discounted a normal meal but in reality just meant a cut down portion size. I've had more flesh from a Tiger Prawn than there was in the Lobster tail served yesterday. There was no resemblance to the photos of the same dish posted on their website by other customers. Not a discount just a cut down dish.
Quite busy but the SERVICE was exemplary very attentive staff astute to our needs and just happy to serve us.
The entrees were fabulous the main course we had six in our group and 4 had the whole lobster the sweets absolutely beautiful especially the licorice ice cream with caramelized fig.
You can also bring your own wine with no courage fee how good is all that
First of all i have to say the service was first class. Can, t say the same for the food though. For the prices they charge i do expect better. My wife wanted the rissoto but it does have garlic in it & my wife is allergic to garlic. Other first class restaurants have always offered to do one special for her, but not at the Oyster Cave. I ordered the 3 coarse special. The calamari was excellant but the lobster was so small it was barely a mouthful. I have bought bigger lobster from Aldi. I ordered the Baked Alaska for desert but was told only after i had finished my main meal that they had none left. Concidering we were the first people in at 5.30pm they must have forgot. All in all for the huge money they like to charge i feal it is very over rated. The coffee was very good though.
