Le Taj Restaurant & Lounge reviews
76 We visited Le Taj on a bitter cold night for some warming Indian cuisine. The restaurant itself was spread over three heritage building and the menu had plenty to tempt us.
The chicken tikka entree sizzled on arrival and was a welcome accompaniment to our mango lassi which were very good.
There wouldn’t be a time where we haven’t ordered butter chicken at an Indian restaurant and this one was nicely sweet and had a good balance of cream vs tomato.
The lamb korma was ultra tender and I loved mopping up that sauce with the garlic naan.
Then came the challenge! My dining buddy dated me to try Melbourne’s Hottest Curry. This firey dish lived up to its name. I am so fortunate to have had some lassi left as I struggled with the heat from just a couple of spoons. Give it a crack if you dare.
After all that heat we enjoyed a well put together dessert platter.
We came here for dinner and we were very pleased with the food and service. The staff members were very friendly and attentive. Food was really delicious. We had the lamb biryani and chicken korma with their super soft garlic naan! Top it off with mango lassi and you will be super satisfied! Oh if you have room for dessert, make sure to try their Gulab Jamun, a kind of sweet milk dumpling dessert. The interior is very cosy and beautiful too. Check them out today!
First time trying Indian food and it did not disappoint at all! Staff was very hospitable. Restaurant looks clean and well presented. Food came out quick and every dish was delicious. Will definitely recommend to others to try out this place.
Loved the experience and the interior design. All their food taste authentic and the curries were delicious: D Would definitely come back with the family!
Quality ingredients are the standout, particularly the spices. Table service is friendly and attentive ttentive A excellent destination for small groups up to about 6, not a intimate setting for 2.
Found this little gem last night, popped in and ordered some takeaway. Service was wonderful, and the food was still piping hot once I walked back to the hotel. The food was delicious and so flavoursome. Highly recommend. Thanks guys for a wonderful meal.
Le Taj became my favourite Indian restaurant overnight. We had the tindaloo and saag paneer. The tindaloo was as I requested, spicy and hot and a great experience. I was tired of trying to find decent spicy Indian food and being disappointed. This was not disappointing, it was very authentic. Both dishes tasted fresh and not salty or greasy. The saag paneer had good depth of flavours. I would recommend. I'm getting the courage to try the ghost curry next time.
Definitely among the best curries I’ve had.a real step above your standard local curry house.
The “hot” curries are definitely correctly described, but they aren’t *just* hot.very nicely balanced flavours and overall great food.
Well done, guys!
Moved to North Melbourne sadly away from our previous Indian local but Le Taj quickly won our hearts & stomachs. Always prompt, fresh & flavoursome. Staff wonderful.
I ordered the dahl and aloo saag and while they were undoubtedly delicious, everything had a very sweet undertone, which I was not expecting. We all love sweet. I, myself, have a sweet tooth but when I order Indian cuisine for dinner.she's looking for spice. She's looking for heat. She's looking for a depth and dynamism of flavour that, I'm afraid, was lacking in my particular meal. Really wanted to love it but, alas, je did not.: - (
Possibly my favourite Indian restaurant in town. Staff are excellent, atmosphere is easy, food is fantastic and we have never been disappointed. We ate vegetarian here but friends who were not really liked the place too. I would seriously consider taking a look if you're half thinking about it.
Not authentic & pathetic. Service is very slow. Staff is not friendly, the Sardar managing it is very rude with bad etiquette & grumpy face. Overpriced considering pretty avg taste & very less portion size.
We love this restaurant. The food is consistently delicious. Always friendly and we always enjoy it.
Good food and great service. Resturaunt always seems to be a little chilly so make sure you take a jacket:)
Ordered takeaway from Le Taj and is was the perfect comfort dinner in isolation. It was delivered hot in under 40 mins, packaged really well, nothing leaked.butter chicken,
and beef vindaloo werr delicious and not greasy, and chicken tikka and naan was amazing!
Rediculous and terrible service. A few times now we have ordered via Uber Eats and they have left half of the order out. Once was a mistake, twice is not on. Then when we try and call to see what we can do and get hung up on and then the phone is off the hook.
Sort it out. Good food. Terrible service.
I gave you 1 star because the prices, imagine you order a can of soft drink, it'll cost you 2.50 but they scam you how? They will serve with soft drink a glass with ice and that will cost you extra 1: 50 so totally will be 4$. Moreover, imagine 1 spoon of yoghurt will cost you 3$!? !? !?
Best curry ive had in years. Great service and chicken tikka masala was very tasty and plenty of sauce
This was a terrible experience. Onion Bhajia were good but everything else very ordinary. We couldn't tell the difference between Butter chicken and Beef Madras, they were virtually the same colour. Both meals were fatty. Madras was like a gravy and both meals lacked flavour.
I mentioned to waitress and she took fatty bits to chef but no response. Guy at reception wasn't bothered. No wonder the restaurant was quiet.
I was satisfied with the food. If you want to try hottest chicken (bet you can’t eat full) try here. Overall good non veg. Bit improvement required in vegetarian. Starters were awesome, specially szillers.
