Koko reviews
81The setting of the restaurant is nice however the service is very average. The staff was rude to us when I asked for some fresh wasabi and keep telling us the package wasabi is all they got. I don't think she understand what is fresh wasabi. For a high end Japanese restaurant I'm shock they dont even offer fresh wasabi. The $199 Wagyu beef is not tasty at all. It is worse than a standard steak. I will not go back again, very disappointed!
*Mediocre food with rip off price*
Went Koko on my birthday, ordered set menu “Gion”, staff didn’t even ask what dessert I want since there’s no options, so they will just bring out a random choice they choose for me?
The chef cooks food in front of us is very nice lady, but inexperienced with cooking skill, asked for medium rare for my beef, turns out overcooked, what a waste of the premium beef.
When she cooks fried rice, some spilled out, but she still pick them up and put in the bowl and served to us.
Towards second half of the meal, waiters stopping taking our plates away after we finish, so they just stacked there while we were having our next course, not good enough.
Before chef came out to cook the dessert for us which we didn’t get to pick, we waited almost half and hour, he started making them in front of us, so I don’t know what they were doing at the back for those half an hour.
We reported to the manager, but manager seems don’t know how to handle the situation, very unprofessional, there’s no any little compensation at the end either, like wave our drinks off.
Overall, over priced place cause it’s in crown, but food is very very average.
DEFINITELY WILL NOT COME BACK AND I ADVICE PEOPLE DON’T COME HERE EITHER IF YOU DON’T WANT YOUR BIG DAY TO GET RUINED!
One star.
Disappointed with the restaurant. When we booked for teppanyaki we were expecting them to be throwing the food to us. Yet instead they just cooked in front of us. There was no interaction with chef. Might as well not have the hot plate in front of you. We came here for a work function thinking it'll be fun. Yet instead it was where the party died.
Really boring atmosphere, food is over priced and average at best.
Came here for my birthday back in August and had a really good experience in the private dining teppanyaki room so thought we'd come here for Valentines Day. Didn't know what to expect in terms of service and food considerating it was probably one of the busiest days in the year. Well Koko didn't disappoint at all. Staff were tentative, chef was professional and entertaining, food was absolutely delicious. If you're looking for the casual teppanyaki experience where the chef plays tricks and throws food all over the place and everyone on the table enjoys a laugh because someone got egged in the face, go to maybe Ginza. Koko is more of a less casual experience.
Good views and food. A couple of outstanding dishes in the seven course set meal. Service was excellent, and the wine list had enough choices to satisfy most people.
View is good staff are friendly and helpful however the food quality just not amazing at all, it is just average
My girlfriend and I came here for our anniversary not really knowing what to expect. I've had teppanyaki before and enjoyed it so thought we'd give it a shot. We were sat on a small table on our own rather than the large 8 or so seaters I'd experienced in the past at teppanyaki restaurants where they cook the food in front of you which I was expecting. I decided I preferred this intimate setting more and the view of the river and the city was amazing. As for the food I also wasn't sure what to expect when we received the menus. Some of the items I hadn't heard of (I'm no food expert) so we ordered two set menus and shared them with each other. Everything was amazing. There was a good amount of food so you don't leave hungry (or too bloated) and each course came out in great timing. They even added a little sparkler in one of our desserts and wished us a happy anniversary which was really nice. The atmosphere was great, not too loud and the pond setting in the middle was an interesting touch. The staff were fantastic. Very kind and accommodating. I am hopeless at using chopsticks and they were more than happy to provide me with a fork when I asked. Price is fairly steep but what you'd expect from such an experience in my opinion. I left with no regrets. Highly recommended!
-When i made phone call to book in a table, i queried about the difference for private dinning, i have been told by the lady, there is nothing special but got a minimum spent of $1,000. OMG.
-Sashimi very unprofessional, different shape different thickness and crack into pieces.
-40mins avg waiting time between every two dishes. After 2 and half hours, we had to leave half way because we been told the kitchen was super busy and cannot serve the food. Its my wifes birthday and Koko ruined it completely.
-We ordered a tofu salad looks like fast food with Kewpie salad sauce.
-soy sauce is very salty and thick, 接近老抽的口味和颜色,这么好的店用做菜的酱油沾寿司太让人震惊了
-yuzu cocktail taste like sweet grapefruit water
-Pricewise, nobu downstairs is much much much better
Never come again.
The view, decor and service is excellent. However, the food is the biggest let down. The fixed menu is not worth the money you pay for it and it is not up to the high standard of other restaurants in Melbourne in this price range. There are much better fixed menu alternatives throughout Melbourne.
I could not recommend dining here.
We had a group booking and didnt really want to fuss about the menu as we dont really know all the dishes. Told the host the situation and they ordered all the food and kept drinks coming. Was unbelievable experience. Fun, great food, drinks and atmosphere. Definitely coming back for another group outing.
Been here many times, the food of high quality, the service second to none, the skills Of the chefs exceptional.consistently! Yummmo! For my birthday, my friend took me to Koko for lunch. We friend the lunch weekday special! OMG just mouthwatering! Everything came in one big tray about 5 dishes and I love the idea because we can have a each dishes one after the other, it also came with dessert! We tried the mocktails and they were just refreshing! Koko is still my fave!
VERY Average food. The staff are really trying hard, but it falls so far short of anything close to a high standard. Honestly save your money and go to any of the other better restaurants in Crown.
Had dinner here a while ago. Service was good and we were seated at the window with beautiful views. Food wasn't as amazing as I had expected though. We had set menu and Wagyu beef was the only dish that impressed me. Maybe my expectation was a bit too high: P
My steak was very dry and didn’t have the “melt in your mouth” feel when I ate it as Wagyu beef usually does. I’ve had better wagyu beef. Definitely not worth the price.
We always have a fantastic experiance at Koko!
Many times on special occasions we have booked the teppanyaki table for dinner. The food is always fresh and delicious. The staff are always exceptionally attentive.
Be prepared to sit close to your neighbors and soak up the real Teppanyaki experiance. Don't forget to order sake!
We went there with really no idea what to order. Servers there wow very friendly and helpful. We went for a five course dinner- my spouse went with the steak and 8 wen5 with seafood. Excellent atmosphere. For anyone going just remember that in the middle of the restaurant there is a small water feature that looks like glass flooring but is water and stone features.
Went here for lunch did not disappoint, great service and food was really good, my first fine dining teppanyaki would recommend, not the usual throwing food at you kind.
Our teppanyaki meal and experience was not worth it when compared to the price charged. Steak and seafood were overcooked, extra worst when we asked for our wagyu to be rare and it came as well done hence chewy. What a waste of good food. They then served us the fried rice that they cooked as part of another customer meal which meant the rice was cooked 45 min ago. Also our miso soup came not when the rice was served as per tradition in Japan but again way before the rice was served. This meant we had cold rice and miso soup. We raise this with staff but they ignored us and basically did not care as they were claimed they had many customers through the door regardless. So only go if you like paying $200 per head to get overcooked and cold food with attitude.
Nice Japanese restaurant by the crown but not cheap and probably not worth the price. Spider roll was nice and crispy, nigiri was also acceptable but rice was not as flavourful and was slightly on the cold side. Service is also polite but a little rushed. Probably wouldn’t come again.
I had very high expectations but unfortunately they were not met! I started with the scallops and they were a bit overcooked. I then moved on to the Mayura Striploin and I was disappointed especially given the high price of 99 AUD for 200 grams!
