Hotham Alpine Resort reviews
74The buses are classed as public transport. No masks worn by the drivers. People are packed in like sardines.
Extremely overcrowded to the point of being unsafe, limited grooming making some runs unskiable, not opening a major lift, exorbatent resort entry fees, outdated and dilapdated facilities.
Its a beautiful place and the staff are great but not grooming half the runs, not opening Blue Ribbon lift and charging 335 dollars just to enter the resort made me decide never to go back. Not to mention the main lift is nearly thirty years old and there has been no new lift infrastructure put in since the nineties.
Go to a resort that actually cares about their customers because this place is an overcrowded, dilapidated, expensive hell hole.
Great facilities and staff. The price doesn't quite justify what you get though. If however you can afford to stay at Hotham for a week, I would definitely recommend it
We arrived there under blizzard conditions and the road was a bit chaotic because it was snowing and icy. We brought chains but our car is 4x4 do we didn't use and it was fine to go up the mountain. The first days was very cloudy and with poor visibility but the last 2 days the sun came up and it was beautiful. The snow was in good condition considering it was the end of August. In the sunny days the runs were a bit icy but overall in good condition. There is lots of blue and black runs and some bits through the trees. There is a bit of lines in the lifts but nothing bad. Lots of restaurants with ordinary food, nothing fancy but good.
Kids club is the best part my 4 year old had lots of fun. I hope next year the day care for babies is open too so then we can come back.
Such a sick time up here. Had 2 snowboard lessons with rosie and ella and they were both great. Will be back up before season ends fingers crossed
I've been here so many times over the past 30 years. Was pretty easy to visit even if the lift company web site didn't work that well. Staff and lifties very friendly. Food is stupidly expensive as are the lift tickets. A real turn off. 1 day every couple of years is all they'll get from me! No one wearing a mask for vivid which isn't too surprising, but given you don't really want you eat lunch outside is a pity. No one cares. Lift lines where ok except for heavenly valley as usual. For Australia it's pretty typical. Not a world class experience.
What a brilliant resort. We couldn't stay long this time as we were headed from Sydney to Melbourne. But we will be back. This resort is absolutely fantastic. Many hire and dining options, we went into the Hotel and they had Mulled wine which was perfect. The parmigiana and schnitzel were both great and the mustard dresses salad! Yum. The toboggan play area was perfect for the littlies. The drive up is breathtaking. We were so fortunate to have the weather changing with cloud, clear and snow within a few short hours giving us spectacular views and experience.
The slopes we saw were nice wide and long and there was plenty of snow. Drive out the otherside on the Great Alpine road for a truly unforgettable experience, just take it very easy and bring chains in case. We also saw the XTrail we were following almost run into the embankment & they weren't going fast. The resort and drive was like you're being transported into another world, perhaps Europe.
The Victorian Alps are a great holiday all year round! Loved every minute of my latest holiday ️
Nice and quiet in the off season, great for walks, trail rides and plenty of fourbie tracks to explore, but very limited dining options and no local shop, Need to stock up supplies from Bright or Omeo.
What a beautiful place. Well organized for tourist. The public toilets are incredibly clean. The view is amazing. I am looking forward to go back
This climb is an absolute giant in the world of Australian cycling. 30.8 kilometres, this is the distance of Mt Hotham making it one of the biggest climbs Down Under distance wise, but the Col takes out the top spot in elevation gain being the highest paved climb in Australia. The road snakes around in a massive U shape, so at almost all times you can see the elusive distance summit and it daunts you on how huge this mountain really is (but trust me it’s worth the exertion to see those views!). There are two eminent steep sections of this big hill the first of the pair being The Meg: The Meg swims on to scene at five kilometres in with an average grade of about 8% maxing out at about 14%, nothing to deep just make sure you know your strokes! CRB hill: This section lasts for precisely 1.57 kilometres at an average gradient of 8.8%. Hopefully by now your in to a good rhythm knowing the finish is almost in your grasp, dancing on the pedals like Tadej Pogacar, but if not your in for a tough one. The views of this mountain are absolutely stunning from bottom to top, it’s a beautiful part of the world. It is hard to beat this mountain, cycling heaven, ski resort, accommodation and cafes what more could you ask for 1857 meters in the air.
A great place to break the journey and stretch your legs. Very clean amenities and excellent information centre
Have been through here a few times over the years during the summer months. A great place to stop and have a look around. Accommodation around for those whom want to have an over night stay or longer, even during the snow season. A good place to check out.
Been waiting 8 months now for my refund. Vail is absolutely pathetic. There are other places in the world to ride that are better. Don’t waste your money
Nothing of notice in summer and at the end of COVID restrictions era. Urban environment looks nice.
Amazing views and wonderful drive to the top of mountain. Absolutely loved it and had memorable experience.
Mt Hotham is an excellent ski village with usually heaps of snow. We went for many years and it rarely was without snow. Everything was of course expensive and Baw Baw was half the price. What I really like about Baw Baw in comparision is the close knit ski village community feel which you don't get with the bigger resorts.
Had a great time have been to Mt Baw baw with the kids to teach them to snowboard but failed. Hotham was so much easier and the chairlifts were way easier as well had a great end to September and am looking forward to going back next season.
Had an awesome weekend on the Mountain, whilst it was the end of the season, everyone was welcoming and lovely.
End of season not much snow but was still an amazing day staff always so friendly. Just so greatfull to have been there with covid.
