Half Moon reviews
71Nice place to grab a drink but the food was rubbish had the worst Fish and Chips ever in my life. No fish just batter, raw on the inside and burnt on the out.
We had a party of 17 people on Sunday night for my special birthday. The meal was served all together and hot and to everybody's liking. Thank
you to the staff who were very attentive. I can highly recommend the
Half-Moon for good food and good ambience.
I was a guest at a private function today. Both the set menu food and hospitality of the staff were great. I'm looking forward to coming back and checking out the regular menu.
Half way there.
Visited a few times for work drinks and for lunch. The lunch menu is very Pub style and few choices. On the occasion I chose the cesear salad, I'd honestly call it a bowl of lettuce with burnt bacon. The drinks and burgers are good. I've heard good feedback about the dinner menu, in particular the steaks.
Nice place. The food was at the higher-end spectrum of what would traditionally be considered pub food. And it was done well. Service good also.
Just enjoyed the best meal I’ve had in years. The pumpkin agnolotti is divine. So good. Highly recommend this great bar and its food.
Stumbled on this place when me and Mum were looking for lunch. The place looks great, the staff were friendly and the food was tasty.
Ordered using the me&U app which was really convenient and let us order and pay without leaving our table. Hoping to see more places implement this
Great lunch. Oysters were fresh and steak and Parma were cooked perfectly. Very accommodating to children and a good atmosphere.
Only downside was the cocktail received
didn’t match anywhere near the description on the menu. It was a letdown.
Nice pub, good location but it's lost somewhere between being upmarket restaurant or casual bar.
Pub food at fine-dining prices. That pretty-much sums it up.
My now-wife and I had our first date at Half Moon 12 years ago, so it's become something of a semi-regular pilgrimage for us. In recent years, however, the overall experience has become nothing short of disappointing. It's not that the food is bad, it's just that it's not terribly good either. And certainly not for the price you pay.
First of all, the menu has deteriorated considerably, and has now been largely reduced to a selection of burgers, parmas and other such pub staples. The "proper" meals did not, to my palette, taste anything like what was advertised. If the wellington had proscutto then it was so low quality as to be undetectable, while the mac-and-cheese side contained "pancetta" that tasted like ham and "gruyere" that tasted (and stretched) like chedder. The lamb shank tasted like.well, lamb meat. Nothing else. The treacle tart was badly burnt around the edges, resulting in a bitter, unpleasent finish to the meal. And as for the $36 "half lobster tail salad" consisting of 3 small morsels of lobster.there is a reason why nouvelle cuisine has never made a resurgence since the 80s!
I know there are serious challenges facing the hospitality industry at the moment, and I hope that Half Moon are able to overcome them. Going forward though, it seems there is a choice they need make: either be a pub that serves pub food and charges pub prices, or be a fine dining restaurant that charges.and, more importantly, delivers.accordingly.
Always a great place for drinks, a casual pub meal or a sit down meal. Had an excellent steak most recently.
Nice open space. All staff service are great and friendly. Foods are amazing. I will definitely come back again soon!
Booked a table at Half Moon for a group Christmas lunch and we were seated in the private dining area. Our waitress Justine was so lovely, helped with the menu and went above and beyond for one party with food allergies. Would definitely recommend
Half Moon was really good. My partner and I had the Beef Wellington and it was delicious. My only knock on the evening was the hour and 10mins for the food to come out. Which if I had of been told, I would have ordered something different. Because I pretty hungry when I ordered.
Standard fare and service. Bit too noisy and at times too many drunks. Not outstanding for food or atmosphere but ok for casual drink with mates after work. Not a first choice for a meet.
Great location and nice food, but the overall thing is over priced given the bad service that we got.
Delightful, cozy pub with a range of craft beers and a nice menu of "pub grub". I had the fish and chips, which was cooked perfectly and was served quickly.
A great pub in the heart of Brighton. An old faithful for many years with consistent service and food. Pub fair and dining room menu should cater for all tastes. It can get busy on Friday nights, as most places do, however it’s a great atmosphere. If you don’t want to drive - the train station is on the door step. The venue also caters for functions upstairs or out the back.
The most expensive and worst Parma I've ever had. 28$ for a small, bland, tasteless, yet well cooked piece of meat. Napoli sauce had no seasoning or flavor, a handful of cold fries tossed on a plate with a bismal rocquette and fennel salad. For 22$ I wouldn't have minded as much, but 28.steep. Can say the burger was better, and the bloke at the bar was a nice guy, knew his stuff and was running around the place whilst his coworkers looked on miserably from their outposts, like they'd 'seen some stuff' in Brighton. Would go back, would skip the Parma, pizzas also didn't do much for me, like they bought some pita at the supermarket and chucked on some toppings
Good vibe, proper classy dine in and bar which is in complete separate corner. Outdoor, indoor, music, classy, bar, decent heater in winter.
