Glicks Balaclava reviews
67The best bagels! We moved from Melbourne and still travel back to stock up on Glicks bagels! Haven't found anything remotely as good as Glicks!
Awful Quality Food, The food used to be good a decade ago when the original family owners were running the shop, the new owners who took over the shop ruined the quality of food and experience the interior decor is hideous now and unclean unhygienic and disorganised. The New Owners Couldn't give a Damn about the quality of the food and experience the new owners have ruined the glicks brand that people are familiar with in the community.
This 1 star is purely on the basis of the bagel filling which was so disappointing! I got two bagels - salmon and cream cheese and a melted cheese - the fillings were so thin as to barely be able to taste it and the melted cheese bagel was crushed in a sandwich press rather than a grill so you’re left with a bagel frisbee slightly glued together with cheap cheese. I love bagels and haven’t been to Glicks in a while and based on today’s experience, I won’t be going back - 20 years ago, Glicks was the only decent place to get a bagel but that’s not the case anymore!
The staff was friendly, I just came to get a quick bagel and cream cheese. It's such a simple thing, cheaply priced but it was very bad. The cream cheese had no flavour and the bagel has been given burned to black. Had to throw it out.
They were the best bagels, but since last couple of months, it's terrible. Smells funny, eggy and tastes like shortening. I don't know what exactly it is but its horrible. I bought bags of bagels and was unable to eat a single one, I otherwise have eaten Glicks bagels for breakfast, lunch and dinner. As always had bought, plain, rye, all seed, mini, garlic (onions were still getting prepared).
They are so bad. Never going back.
The young man serving me today had no clue about anything.i asked for well done plain bagels.he suggested the onion bagels.i also purchased a tuna dip.it wasnt wrapped and was dumped together with the bagels into a small plastic bag with no handles. By the time i got home the bagels were saturated as the lid of the dip opened. Glicks is a Jewish institution in Melbourne. Please pick up your game.
The bagels are heavenly…you simply don’t visit Melbourne without going to Glicks for bagels…
Terrible. It is not Glicks anymore.
It become low grade train station outlet. Shame.
Since they change owner, the place looks dirty, the food quality has changed. Unfortunately it's not good anymore.
Best onion bagels in Melbourne imo!
And they are decently priced!
The staff there are really pleasant too!
10/10 would recommend
Easily the best bagels in town. And love the egg salad. Don't leave this place without the egg salad
Will be back again! Nice bagels at great price. The Rugelach is a nice treat. Denser than a croissants. Really good bagels too, though I will say I only ever had a few in my lifetime so I am no connoisseur, but still good food.
The interiors is a little messy, but personally it has a charm to it. Though I know Glicks isn't a small bakery, it doesn't have to be polished like a cafe either. Maybe I just lived eating a lot of bahm mi at one point in Springvales, seeing scruffy interiors it just a vibe for me.
Went in before flying out of Melbourne back home to Adelaide yesterday and woke up with the best bagels and challah I ever had, even better than the ones I got in America many years ago.
I may not be well acquainted with the rest of the kosher bakeries in Melbourne but feel Glicks will be my go-to place whenever I am around Melbourne.
Been shopping here for 10+ years. Bagels and service were good, now, they could care less about service or quality. Glicks has clearly made enough millions that the family has checked out of the bakery, and into the Four Seasons. Shame to see such a great business go downhill. Thank God for the new bagel stores in the area. $$$$$ you greedy Glick family, and your business is garbage now.
The only redeeming thing is their products, the workers are self centred and seem not to really want to be there. The place is not really that clean from what I can see in the kitchen, I think last time going in.
It's the traditional place to buy bagels, and yes, they are still great after all these years, be about time the place had aface lift though!
I just discovered Glicks as my friend brought over Bagels today which were incredible, extremely flavourful, fresh and clearly made with care and precision.
Side note but to the lady in the reviews below who gave Glicks a bad review based on serving customers without a mask on, I would suggest to that lady to pay attention to the law as businesses are not allowed to discriminate based on mask exemptions and that lady should not assume someone's health condition based on appearance. There needs to be more awareness about this and I'm upset to see that someone would use this as a reason to give a wonderful family business a much undeserved bad review.
I will be visiting your outlets soon Glicks thankyou for your fabulous skill and expertise.
Finally got lunch at a bagel shop in Melbourne. Our family each enjoyed our own custom bagel sandwiches, taking them down the road to picnic area at Caulfield Park.
Loading up on carbs this weekend from the iconic Baker Bleu! There is definitely a bit of magic brewing at their bakery because everything I ordered from the Country Loaf to the Sesame Challah tasted like dreams and happiness. Best decision I’ve made all lockdown! 100% reccomend if you live within their radius or save it for post lockdown treats!
Childhood memories of vanilla slice fish balls and bagels and challas.always good to come back and buy here
