Gaylord Indian Restaurant reviews
73Great food, lovely service. Highly recommend the Dungar Chicken and Chicken Dum Biryani. Clean and beautiful interior. Will visit again.
Good restaurant in terms of decor and food, really good food, but high on the beer prices and corkage
Expert advice and exceptional service. Food cannot be faulted. Would recommend to anyone wanting authentic Indian cuisine
We were invited to the grand opening of Gaylords new location. A 5 course meal.
Beautiful plush interior and a sense of comfort.
Mango lassi, sweet and fragrant but the coconut shavings had a beetroot kinda of taste.
The pani puri had the most crisp shell filled with potatoes and chickpeas. The spicy tangy water was a change as it was quite refreshing.
The marinated in-house chicken was quite tender and grilled.
The beetroot tikki was a strong dish which was a soft beetroot croquette well mashed with cubed avoacado and a minty sauce.
The mains were the methi marg, prune kofta which was quite sweet and fragrant and the dal tadka. All complimented the crisp yet soft roti bread and fragrant basmati rice but it would have be nice if ther was more flavour to the dish.
Dessert was a delight. Gajrella came out warm with the most moist caramalosed mashed carrot pudding, pistachio and cashew nuts.
Gaylords came highly recommended and did not disappoint. Delicious fresh dishes and the wines were a perfect compliment. Great atmosphere and the team were so lovely and knowledgeable. Will definitely be back.
I was sad when the former Gaylord closed before I got a chance to try it, so I was delighted when it reopened in a new Docklands location. The space is not as quirky as the last location, but it’s still charming and offers a unique menu. The dishes are a combination of traditional offerings and more contemporary items, including beetroot tikki, the most delicious creamy prune kofta, nut and carrot pudding, and incredible pani puri served with “tangy water”. There’s also a buffet option, but I recommend ordering a la carte.
Starting off with Pani Puri, Peppercorn Chicken Tikka and Beetroot Tiki, I was absolutely wowed by the chicken tikka. Bold punchy flavours, with a touch of smokiness from being grilled. The Pani Puri was crispy and stuffed with delicious potatoes and chickpeas, but the tangy water divided opinions of my fellow diners. The Beetroot Tiki wasn’t what I had in mind, mainly because it was described as a croquette. It was more like a pancake, but in terms of flavours, it was satisfying to eat.
The Prune Kofta was my favourite from the 3 mains. It had a subtle sweetness from the prunes, and the thick and creamy korma sauce was both piquant and hearty. The Methi Marg reminded me of a more subdued butter chicken, and the Dal Tadka was overall a pleasant dish. The garlic naan was indispensable for soaking up all the sauce from the curries.
For dessert, the Gajrella (caramelised carrot pudding) was beautifully spiced and the pistachios and cashews added a much needed texture. It’s definitely not what many are accustomed to in terms of dessert but it’s well worth trying because it gets better the more you eat it.
The worst indian food I've ever had in my life.ordered a veg thali today (we were there for a team get together) but left most of the items as is. Will never ever return.
Very very slow service. Half cooked chiken curry on our table. Waste of time and money. Not happy at all.
Food was delicious, was served quickly and staff were friendly and helpful. Came here by chance on our last night in Melbourne and very happy we did.
Incredibly delicious food and the service was wonderful! I was so sad when i noticed that Gaylords was no longer on Tattersalls Lane in the city, it being such an iconic Melbourne institution, so i was so excited when I discovered the new Spencer St location! And it did not disappoint! The food was fantastic, and at a much higher calibre than your standard fair, with all your favourites on the
menu, and we even requested one that wasnt on the menu and there was no hesitation in making it for us! The service was great - attentive but not in your face. Would definitely recommend!
Still some of the best Indian food in Melbourne in a new location. I would give them 10 stars if l could.
