Fonda Mexican reviews
76First time here, great atmosphere, very lively and staff is very lovely. Great range of drinks and nice food. I will definitely visit again.
Average at best. Staff were absolutely lovely and the service was prompt, the food and drinks were a let down though. Got nachos and the guacamole was so salty I had to remove it. It was like I got the end of the chip bag bc it was mostly a bowl of chip bits not full nachos chips.
Mediocre at the very best. Have had better Mexican food at average Mexican restaurants at half the price. The burritos require a major flavour upgrade whereas the tacos were ‘dry’ - for the lack of a better word. The only saving grace was the mango chilli margarita which was delicious.
Great service and food. Big shout out to Emma for the cocktails and her recommendations. Will be back soon!
I had heard lots of good things about Fonda and decided to give it a try! The burritos were interestingly very healthy using substitutes instead of rice and other fillings. There were some interesting choices of margaritas and I loved the one I chose!
The food and drinks are a bit expensive and medium size, so it’s not a place to go to for a big meal or to get drunk. If you want a Mexican place with delicious tasting food and drinks to enjoy however, this is your place!
The staff were beyond friendly and it was a pleasant experience all round!
Great food, small portions. A little expensive but fantastic atmosphere. Good roof deck and a small bar on the 1st floor.
I recommend the fish burrito, the nachos and the corn- all excellent! Good for groups up to 6 people or a dinner for 2. Good seating and service outside on Chapel Street.
Loved their food, always fresh and full of flavour! A great spot to hangout with friends and family.
As an uber driver I was sent in the back through the kitchen for pickup. Kitchen was overcrowded with uber drivers waiting too long for pickup. Made for very unsanitary conditions, kinda thing that would make a customer weary to eat from that kitchen.
Food was great! Was visiting with a friend who was on a strict doctor ordered diet from covid complications and the staff made sure to accommodate, when a small work aroundable mistake was made they refunded his meal but was totally unnecessary and so kind! Amazing service, thanks ladies!:)
Great food, Amazing atmosphere and fantastic pricing all on Chapel street. What more could you ask for?
Food was good but not the best Mexican place I have eaten at. The drinks weren't bad either. Prices were standard for a restaurant. Overall an good but not great place.
Also, no table service which was a bit annoying.
So we waited 5 minutes on at the entrance, then walked in finally someone greeting us. Order with Mr. Yum (I hated) after 10 minutes I can see my drinks on the bar but no one running it. There are dirty glasses about every where, staff running, they are not enough, my drinks are faulty another 10 minutes for someone notice us. Horrible experience
Don’t have to look far back into their reviews to see the exact same critique of the bland food and impersonal service (sorry front fringe dyed hair for not thanking you explicitly as we left, shout out to gap shirt though we could tell you cared).
Very different from what might be called Typical Mexican. We tried several plates and found we only really liked the fried cauliflower. The others weren't bad just not great.
The food is bland and the service is lame.
Wait staff were not friendly. When we were seated we were offered water or sparkling, sparkling came nearly flat.
Ordering is done via smart phone - during check out you are required to enter an email address and then it recommends tipping. Also an extra surcharge for paying via card how else can I order if you don’t accept cash?
It’s $5 extra to add black beans and $2 extra to add jalapeños to an already over priced $18 quesadilla that is “grilled” in a toasty press. Servings are not large - just four regular slices of quesadilla with some kind of red salsa which you’ll desperately dip into just to add any spices to your meal. Pork had no flavor, but they did add some canned pineapple - woah now it’s Al Pastor! No hot sauces on request or sour cream. Chips are over salted and undercooked.
This place is a vanilla millennial trap. Looks fine on the outside but is actually just a total rip and run with bad service.
Oh the fish tacos! Even got more when the kitchen was doing last call for orders. Best so far, 2nd place would have to be Fonda in chadstone.
Oh my gosh! The best of the best, super friendly, super amaziiiiiiiiing food, I want to go again and again, wow they are the best mexican I’ve ever tried
Amazing food and drink! Ewan was our waiter! He was very friendly, professional and went above and beyond, would highly recommend x
Ordered corn chips and two different tacos, corn chips served with dry tomato and a small portion of Guacamole, dry and unpleasant to see. A fish Taco with a very salty fish and a dry tortilla, a “popular” grilled clean taco with carrot, c/m taste was ok, dry tortilla presented luckily on a plate. $20 for a margarita that tastes like anything but a margarita.
Terrible menu, nothing Mexican about this.
Visited on July 3rd with 10 people. We all had a verity of dishes/drinks and from all reports everything was delicious. It was very busy and the atmosphere definitely helped for a memorable birthday. The manager and staff were terrific. Thank you Fonda, Windsor
