Fonda Mexican reviews
87Even on a quiet evening with plenty of free tables the service was so slow we nearly left. And we would have left except for the high price of the food, which when it eventually arrived was in disappointingly small portions. We left the restaurant hungry and frustrated.
Me and my partner come here quite often and absolutely love the food and service is always amazing! Our server tonight, grace, was so great and we enjoyed ever time she came to our table!
Food served with smile, however delayed, and chargrilled chicken was not chargrilled but towards burnt side
Pleasently surprised by this place and had a nice dinner here. The food came really quickly and service was good. Staff were friendly and polite. Food portions were just nice. They also have gluten free options which is helpful for those with dietary requirements.
Took a while to get the order but it’s alright. I liked the nachos but the burrito bowl was decent, it was great but it wasn’t my type. Could be better but still great
I almost had a great time at Fonda Mexican with a friend tonight. The food was apparently delicious and fresh, and the service was friendly and attentive. Bill (using an alias for privacy reasons), the manager, wore an awesome Hawaiian shirt and made us feel welcome. He apologized for the kitchen closing at 9: 30 pm. We loved the idea of food at 9: 30 pm, especially after a couple of beers and were seeking the ambiance and the comfort of spicy Mexican food that Fonda could have offered. But alas we had to settle for Bill’s shirt. We rate Bill’s shirt 5 stars.
I first had Fonda in Collingwood 5 years ago and it was great then but now it's even better. Unlike most fast food Mexican not every option on the menu relies on a bucket of cheese. Meats a flavoured well and vegetarian options are great.
The menu has gotten healthier which is great also.
House made sodas are a nice touch rather than the bottles Mexican ones.
Favourite new thing on the menu would have to be the Zucchini chips! Careful though! They're steaming hot inside!
Potato chips - yum
Watermelon and lime beverage - tasty
Fish Burrito - major let down. Most of it was gross white rice, and maybe 1/10 was fish.
Food arrived in four different stages. Two friends had long finished their food by the time the last one got his. The service was too slow, lacking any enthusiasm. The food portions are too small.
Was quite fonda this place. Not your typical greasy Mexican food, more of a clean, organic kinda vibe to it and not at all in a bad way. Really surprised me and will definitely be coming back. If not only for those delicious cocktails, oh I should behave.
Kids Chicken Tenders were burnt, parents mains came out 35mins after the kids meals were served. Place was not busy and now I understand why, I`ll never go back it was a terrible experience. Serving staff were fine, no issues with them they were friendly and helpful.
I ordered a beef burrito I struggled to find the beef. Was more like a vegetarian burrito. However the staff were great and very attentive. Didn’t feel like a Mexican meal
A major disappointment tonight. The chef & produce must have changed. The chicken salad had stone cold sweet potato, the tortillas weren’t crisp & I stopped eating it because I think the chicken was off & the salad leaves were yellow with brown spots. My daughters fish bites were burnt & the presentation was sloppy. We used to come here very often but not now. Something has clearly changed - the quality of the produce & cooking is not up to par. A shame, we won’t be back.
Fast
Fresh
And full of nu school Mexican flavours
Staff were attentive polite and really helpful
Highly recommended
Tasty food with a good level of spices. Loved the sweet potato chips. A bit of a difficulty with the split payments. But the staff did their best.
Refusing to take cash payments. Covid is over. A lot of complaining from Hospitality when covid was in full swing and now they don’t take legal tender from potential paying customers. Wonder how they would go if the power went out with a restaurant full of patrons. I’m sure cash would be accepted then.
This is NOT good Mexican food. Dry and flavourless. Stale tacos. Half-filled Margarita glasses. Overpriced.
Given this place plenty of opportunities.
Always very small servings. No flavour. Really disappointing.
Dinner was fab - vegan options make me happy - however it’s always been sweet potato as the vegan option. I get it - it’s a cheap option for us vegans but maybe mix it up with a nice spiced cauliflower or fable or jackfruit option? Would eat here more of the vegan option wasn’t always sweet potato.
Love the atmosphere and love the staff - your manager is awesome.
Honestly the thing I want to highlight at this Fonda is Grace, our waitress. Even though I had been silly and not made a reservation for a Friday evening, she was very quick to kindly manage expectations and add us to a waitlist.
Once we were seated, later, she helped us to rectify an error in our order (this occurred via the website). This was managed and rectified so much quicker than I thought was possible.
I would like to also note that this was all done while being notably understaffed.
I’m unsure how much Grace is being paid, but it should be more.
