Fancy Hank's Barbecue Restaurant reviews
70 Only real positive was the food was good (of the food we did receive).
We ordered the premium set, and I can tell you the picture they have for the premium set seems to be a lie. The picture includes beans which we did not receive, secondly our invoice said our premium set also included deviled eggs, and nuts, which we also did not receive. Maybe we should have realized at the time, but the food came so slowly we didn't keep track (it was only when we checked the invoice the next day that we noticed). It was also pretty disappointing to receive one tiny dish at a time then have to wait another 20-30 mins for the next one. Overall it took about an hour for the meat to arrive.
Pretty tasty food with friendly waiters. The drinks are well made and everything is presented nicely.
My only complaint is that our friends had already finished their mains before we received ours.
Would recommend if you like brisket and pulled pork. Definitely worth ordering the wings with pineapple Carolina reaper sauce, so delicious!
(BC - before Covid) This place was recommended to me by my old hipster housemate. I then went on to suggest it to a friend as a place to go for her birthday dinner.
We arrived around 6pm on a Saturday night and after being sat down and asked for our orders we were told they were sold out off all meat, except for full racks of ribs. Which we were told we $90+ each and that they would not split it up for us to share between us.
We ended up having soup and macaroni from memory. We were all so disappointed we ended up leaving and going to a Pancake place to get a decent meal. To this day I still feel guilty for ruining my friends birthday, and she hates that people still remember that night.
Great range of vegan/veg options for the non-meat eaters. The yams in the vegan main were the most delicious thing ever. Also highly rate the burnt carrots and corn ribs. I loved the atmosphere and staff were friendly and efficient.
This place is expensive as hell for what you get.
The cocktails are presented very amateur, the ki d you'd expect to pay $15 for at tgi Fridays or something.except they're $20! The brisket is clearly what the chefs do well and it is probably the reason most people go but I had the fried chicken. I didn't eat it. It's a hodgepodge of cuts of chicken that has the saddest crumb. It's paper thin, almost like they coated it in flour and water and baked it. There was no crunch, more of a crumble. The mac n cheese was pretty nice tho.
The food quality unfortunately does not match its price tag.
The staff however were super lovely and welcoming.
Not my first time, but definitely the last one.
We had a booking for 3 at 8.30pm, we arrived a little early and the waitress showed us the table straight away.
No one came back to us with some water for at least 15mins. We ordered through the QR CODE at 8.23: we got the first drink with 2 flies inside, the beer without the glass (not a big issue) and the second cocktail served in a chipped and cracked tumbler. We got a couple of entrees after few minutes and then we had to wait more than 1 HOUR for the meat and the rest of the food. No one has been checking on us (water, saying sorry for the delay, or at least changing the drink in the broken glass).
The food arrived at 9.45pm when we were almost ready to go, and it wasn’t good/warm as usual.
I totally understand that the hospitality field is dealing with the worst period ever, but in this way you are not even helping your customers on supporting you.
Ps: the 10% of tips you set automatically on the “order at table” are totally no worthy.
Typing this review as I'm waiting up to an hour for my mains on a Wednesday night when the restaurant is at 50% capacity. I'm not gonna bother reviewing the quality of the food. The wait is ridiculous so just don't waste your time here. Also really expensive for such long wait times. 10/10 don't recommend.
Noisy reflectory style dining from a giant smoker, a vegans nightmare but a meat lovers heaven, order and pay via a barcode on the timber table.
Fancy Hank's is a class act and food is excellent.
Ordered takeaway that DoorDash left to go cold. Called the restaurant and offered to pick it up. The restaurant re-made the order hot and fresh and even threw in some bonus items. Thanks Fancy Hank's!
Food spreads were tasty. The wings were better when I last tried them at vic market location. Service was a big let down. Not busy slow service. Paid on mobile in the restaurant and waited just over 45mins until all the food was received. This is after asking where the food was.overall good food, but based on my experience, unlikely I'll go again.
Yeah it was pretty awesome, had a great feed, they definitely don't skimp on the food either, if you think you can eat that 50 dollar deal you better be real hungry.
Went upstairs to the rooftop bar afterwards. The staff in both the bar and restaurant were super friendly.
FANTASTIC FANCY HANKS!
Organised to come here for a birthday and these guys didnt let down. We trued the set menu and Everything was very tasty! The staff were extremely patient with us as we were a lil loud and roudy and were extremely responsible when it came to service of alcohol. Very impressed.
I will definitely be back in a more intimate setting to taste more of what was on off.
Expect city prices. But you get the best quality.
Easy to find.
City parking.
Would definitely recommend and return.
Congrats to the team here you do great work
It was a hot day in the city and I really wanted to try Fancy Hanks. It’s been on my list for ages. I walked all the way across town and turned up sweaty. A quick splash of water and I was ready to go. I ordered devilled egg, corn and cheddar hash browns, smoked brisket with burnt ends and burnt carrots. Everything was perfect except the brisket flat was pretty dry and tough (the point was beautiful).
The staff were attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was pretty great for a 2pm weekday lunch but the music helped a lot.
First time I went there the food was fantastic. Took a friend there and had the same dish again but it was undercooked and the portion size was much smaller. Staff aren't friendly/enthusiastic at all. Felt like we were a burden to serve rather than valued customers. Disappointed and won't be going back: (
Fantastic BBQ, great service
The fried chicken is outstanding. This is now my #1 fried chicken in Melbourne. Great moist buttermilk brined meat and ULTRA crunchy skin with a great light dry seasoning which reminded me of the dry seasonings I had in Korean. Absolute must order.
Brisket was very good for Australia but still searching for something that holds a candle to the best of Texas.
Pork ribs were good but not a stand out.
Really disappointed with the size and quality of food here. Expected big ribs with lashings of hickory smoked sauce. Got dry meat and it was not great. Sorry guys, but with a name like that, you have to at least try to be American!
PICKLES! MEAT! FRIED CHICKEN! This place is heaven. They are set up so you just order and pay for everything via your phone, tres modern and handy.
Oh I forgot to add - COCKTAILS!
The pittmaster set menu for 2 is the ideal meal to experience the amazing beef brisket and the pulled pork, complimented excellently by pickles, pickled onions and the legendary BBQ and Coffee+Molassses sauces
Beautiful meat and the balance achieved from all the sides and the use of ingredients put together is beautiful. The peach ice cream with bourbon salted caramel with the sweet potato crisp garnish is to die for.
Have been a patron of Fancy Hank's for a while now. Having grown up in the US, it's my go-to for CBD based bbq and smoked cuisine. I tend to stick to the sandwiches which are always 100% (pulled pork and meatloaf = YUM!). However, tried the ribs on my most recent visit (Jan 2021) and was disappointed. Very chewy and hardly any meat; that's simply not how ribs should be done. Also let down by the corn bread; the smoked apple cream does not go with the cornbread. Stick to a savoury corn bread with whipped butter (jalapenos optional). Again, a pretty tasty offering but in future I'll stick to what I know Fancy Hanks does best.
