Fancy Hank's Barbecue Restaurant reviews
70Great place, great quality o and delicious food and good portions. Staff is friendly and attentive. It would be nice to have music more present but other than that the best place. Highly recommended
Fantastic spot with great atmosphere and amazing food. The beef brisket just melts in your mouth and the pulled pork was. Service was great and the staff were knowledgeable about what they were serving and were accommodating to my allergy. In short, go to Fancy Hank's you won't regret it.
Rating the service low as everything was QR code based which I’m not a fan of. Apart from that the foods great and the drinks menu was equally as good with well made cocktails. I love an old fashioned so was very happy to see a menu dedicated to multiple old fashion recipes. Some are a bit on the expensive side though reaching $30 for some of them. With the food, just go the platter in my opinion. Always more than enough for everyone on the table. Grab a box from them and you’ve easily got lunch the next day.
Great place for a work lunch, fast and friendly service. I had the pulled pork burger with fries, the fries and sauce were so good! The burger was tasty too, but the meat was a little cold weirdly, but warm in the middle. Still worth a try I'd say! Options available for vegetarian/vegan too.
American BBQ in the heart of Melbourne, hip tall booth and fabulous staff. A really cool method of online ordering and paying. Like ubers eats to your table is a god send for large group, no more post meal bill dramas!
Always a great night. Food was as exceptional as ever. Service was amazing, staff happy, quick and offering advise on ordering
The brisket was good, but the pork shoulder was so salty, that it was almost inedible, infact, we left half on the platter, the texture was pretty average too.
Coleslaw was fresh and tasty.
I'd eat here again but I'd definitely avoid the pork shoulder.
So so good. If you love American BBQ then this place is awesome. Apart from all the smoked meats the Bloomimg Onion and Alabama white sauce was amazing. I just ordered a bunch of sauces and rubs from their online store too.
Had the family pack for 4. Absolutely sensational quality and value. Cannot wait until reopening and getting back to the restaurant. Well done guys.
Ok experience. The side plates for our sharing board were brought out well before the meat. Not sure if there was an issue in the kitchen but nothing was communicated to us. Beef wasn’t great, didn’t have much flavour. The pulled pork was much better and went great with the pickles. Don’t think I would hurry back to try it again though
Sensational food and atmosphere. Service is great now that you can order food and drink via your phone, so quick and efficient.
Was kind of expecting this place to have a better selection of meat. Mostly burgers and other stodgy bits unfortunately, the few pieces of meat you could order we're unfortunately tasted quite old or too sweet, and all came with a side of some sweet brown bbq sauce. I know some people love sugary brown bbq sauce, but it's generally used to mask poorly done meat in my experience, which was a shame seeing as some of the meat would have been great if it tasted fresher and wasn't as sweet. Might try again in the future just in case they were having an off day for whatever reason, but if it's the same, probably wouldn't return. Staff were friendly and accommodating, and resturant had a nice feel in the lovely old building it was in.
EDIT: In response to the reply, there was nothing that was sold out or 'run out' of, there was literally not that much to order that wasn't a burger, chips, battered or sweet. Being a BBQ place I'd expect to be able to get some meat on it's own, and from memory there was only three options, the brisket (which was partly sweet), the pork (the pulled port was sweet) and the chicken (which was sold out but also battered in part from what I understand, so I wouldn't have ordered this). - Maybe I'm the odd one out, but I'd love to be able to buy some meat that isn't battered, glazed or soaked in sugar. If it's a good quality smoke, you don't need to cover it in sugar or carbs.
If you like food you need to go here.
If you like meat you absolutely need to go here!
Best corn bread I've ever tasted.
Incredible brisket!
I didn't want to stop eating!
Great staff, really good atmosphere.
A must go to when in Melbourne.
Brisket was nice, but could've been even juicier.
Asian coleslaw was also very nice, but felt out of place alongside everything else.
Nice vibes all round.
Brisket sandwich was yum, but could benefit from some nicer bread. Disappointed by the chips, and the garlic aioli was very very garlicky. Appreciated being able to pay on the online menu rather than fussing with split bills. Nice space and ambience, good service.
Decent food and atmosphere. Group was over charged but we did book for more than arrived so that’s fair I suppose. Absolutely no wheel chair access.
Massive throwback to my meal here where the food is amazing and the vibe is fantastic. A lovely casual and fun spot to gorge yourself silly on meat and more meat. The super tender and meaty brisket and pulled pork are the highlights, as were the corn bread, buffalo wings, corn and chedder hash brown and corn ribs. Flavours are on point and flawless execution. Can't fault anything here, it's no wonder this place is my go-to for American BBQ.
I am a vegetarian so probably not the ideal place to dine at but a friend's birthday so. I knew we would be in trouble when I saw that you have to download app and order online. I have not had one good experience with this yet and Fancy Hanks was no exception. There were 5 of us and we ordered starters, mains and sides and guess what ALL the dishes arrived at the same time. All of them. I was looking forward to sampling the vegetarian options such as mushroom burger, corn and chedder hash browns, mac and cheese, Boston baked beans, blooming onion and fries. I really liked the corn hash browns and the cucumber served as a garnish but that's about it. I also love my fries but these were too heavily coated with seasoning for my taste. So I was disappointed but the meat eaters were happy and Fancy Hank's is for them not me.
Note in response to this review the manager responded that we should have clarified what order we wanted our food to come out. All I can say is that when an item is listed as a starter, you want it to come out first.
$28 for 4 pieces of under cooked chicken! I should have known not to eat there when the place was empty. If you want great chicken please go to KFC.
The Mac & Cheese was hot around the outside and cold in the middle. You didn't even have ribs? I guess you didn't expect people to visit.
I'm all about supporting local venues but you're taking the pi$$.
Excellent staff and service but sadly the brisket was very dry. I used to live in Texas and I'm sorry brisket is never meant to be dry at any time.
