I spent the first week of 2024 travelling around central Victoria, visited a lot of bakeries, and Country Cob Kyneton had easily - and I mean easily - the best pie of the bunch. I ordered the beef cheese chili jalapeño pie from the specials board and from first bite I knew I was onto something special. The pastry was perfect, the pie was properly spicy, the meat good quality, and the cheese not obscured by the other flavours. My friend ordered the Cambodian fish pie and was similarly impressed, remarking that it captured perfectly the tastes she remembered from visiting Cambodia. I wish this was my local bakery! Lucky Kyneton.

Need cleaning staff.outside tables left dirty with food all over. Had no choice but to sit at a table with food still on it from previous customer. How things have changed since Covid days.

Best pies i have ever eaten. We came back the next day to try more flavours. Pies had real proper ingredients, it wasnt the usual reconstituted mush that most pies have.

We tried the cambodian fish amok, singaporean chilli crab, beef chilli cheese jalapeno and the black forest mushroom truffle. All of them were bloody incredible.

Went to try this place last week, we had the plain beef, cheese+steak, lobster laksa, all were full of favour, perfect crust and tomato sauce not required. We ended taking away 16 pies for laters on.

Pies are ok, overpriced though $7.20 - $11 for a pie
And the sausage rolls are rank, for real like how do yous think those sausage rolls are ok to sell they are really bad.

If you are in the area, do yourself a favour and give your taste buds a treat with these pies.
No wonder they have featured on the most famous cooking show in the world (MasterChef Australia), the video playing on loop will tell you about all their awards they have received for their pies.
On street parking (watch the signs), clean toilets, great tasting coffee and fantastic customer service from all the staff that work there. I’d definitely go back on my travels to this place at some point soon.

Since moving to Victoria I’ve noticed that just about every second bakery you drive past has won the coveted Australian Pie of the Year award. I’ve had some absolute rippers so on a recent drive to Melbourne, we simply had to stop in to try the latest winner, Country Cob Bakery and the Cambodian Amuk Fish Curry pie. We visited the Kyneton store and the line for service was out the door. Besides the fish curry pie, we bought a caramelised pork and pepper pie, a cowboy beef and a mushroom pie that I can’t find on the menu online. They came second place with their vanilla slice as well so it would’ve been rude not to indulge. Let’s start with the big winner. I wasn’t sure about a fish flavoured pie and I can’t lie, the first bite was a little bit strange to wrap your head around that flavour in pie shaped form. I’m happy to report that each subsequent bite yielded an explosion of happiness on my tongue so you did not want it to end. The pie form held together nicely so there was no mess besides my salivation splashing everywhere. An incredibly pleasant surprise and not a flavour I would have contemplated buying in the past. All the others we got were wonderful. I think they’ve all won awards from the previous few years. The caramelised pork and pepper is right up my alley for pie flavour (I’m a pepper steak kind of guy). Delicious! The cowboy beef: Delicious again! Even the mushroom pie knocked us for six! No meal is complete without dessert, but if you blinked, you would have missed that we even got the vanilla slices. It was like a magicians trick how quick we devoured them! Well played, Country Cob. The awards are well deserved in our opinion.

What a massive selection of food! You’ll never go hungry if you’re nearby. And there’s a reason they’ve won so many awards! I had the pepper beef pie. Best pie I’ve had! And their peanut chocolate slice was ridiculously amazing!
A must if you’re near Kyneton…
Even if you’re not near Kyneton a must!

Yep! Very good pies. Call me unadventurous but just like the simplicity of the beef pie. Really great!

Amazing depth of flavour in the filling compared to standard melb pies, pastry wasn’t crispy though. I probably went too late in the day, still cracka pie!?

GOOD VANILLA SLICE AND AWARD WINNING MEAT PIE!
This lovely little town has an award winning bakery having won best meat pie 2022. I had to have one and it was good. However, the vanilla slice was definitely a step above the rest.
Worth a stop on a road trip any time!

Vanilla slice and coffee. Appears all new staff so was a bit disorganised and had to remind them of our order. Slice and coffee was good and had a good choice of pies

We’d heard from friends how good this place was. We took a detour from our usual weekly run from Melbourne to Echuca and arrived just befofre midday. The place was already jumping. I went a bit crazy and ordered two of each of the seafood range along with a pepper beef and a pastie to mop up the saliva running down my chin. Once in the car I inhaled the pepper beef - best ever, leavinf my previous fav at Moama Bakery well behind. Over the next four days we were blown away by the lobster, crab, scallop and seafood pies. I’ve never had pies this delicious. Not cheap, but the ingredients justify the cost. I think our new regular route will be through Kyneton.

This is very unique bakery that serves seafood pies. My favorite is Singaporean chilli crab pies. Curry scallop also nice.

Couldn't miss the award-winning pies and vanilla slice. Just had to stop! It was busy, but the flow was good and easily got a table. Well worth it to also go around the corner to look at the Bushfire Tribute - terrific!

We drove two hours to try their famous pies and it was worth the trip. The pepper pie is a league above the rest. The spice mix is more complex than a regular pepper pie, with the addition of chillie peppers. The slightly fruity taste of the chillies elevate the pie to award winning status (of which it has won several). And of course, I had to try their curry scallop pie (featured on Masterchef). It was delicious! The scallops were fresh and buttery, not the rubbery kind you find in imitation pies. The curry was surprisingly sweet and delicious. The only pie I did not enjoy was a chillie crab pie that was a special at the time. The crab tasted like it had come from a can and the meat did not have much texture. Apart from that, I strongly recommend their pies. I used to write a blog about pies so I've tried a few. Country Cob is in my top three list for pies. Go try them.
