Comedy Theatre reviews
74 Thank goodness the service is great.
Unfortunately the entry to the venue is too small for the numbers of patrons it can seat so it was very tightly packed with people waiting outside on the road even as the earliest patrons were being scanned in.
I wondered why there was a seventy dollar price difference between different the top and bottom ticket tiers for such a seemingly small venue, but after seeing the differences even a few metres makes I can understand why the higher costs were justified. The raked seating in the dress circle is so steep it gives you vertigo looking down and while being on the lower level so close to the stage sounds great, the stage is so high that the front row had to crane their necks to see what was happening even near the front.
However.
The venue is aesthetically pleasing, the seats comfortable, and while the seats off to the side were not as excellent as the higher priced seats, they were still okay.
The sound quality of the show we saw was.generally good, if a little quiet and tinny at points.
Of course the quality of the show you see is the most important part and the quality was indeed excellent all around, but the review is for the venue, not the show, and includes the location too, not just the quality of service. The saving grace of this venue was indeed the staff. A mostly great venue in a not great location.
Great little theater. The first row has lots of leg room but you'll be craning your neck as the stage is set on the same level as your seat and it is at least 4 feet high. You'll be close enough to see the spit of the actors though. Close to quite a number of parking options. Not much foyer room so if it rains watch out. Seats were comfortable enough but they are not of your contemporary Cinema in Melbourne.
We went to see Come from Away and were not disappointed. The theatre is the perfect size for smaller productions and it's in great condition. The seats were comfy and I think everyone had a great view of the stage. The sound and lighting were also very good. I would recommend everyone see the show, it's got a great pace and energy that fits well with such a feel good story. The musicians were as good as the actors!
Went to see Come From Away. Sat in B30+B31 of the dress circle. Fantastic view of the whole stage. Did not feel too far from the action. The seats were very steep. I personally would not go beyond Row D on the dress circle. A brilliant must see performance. Brilliant casts with brilliant story. Definitely deserves a standing ovation.
A great old theatre with a fantastic live show we saw the movie coming from away and it went for 100 minutes with no interval and the time went so quick at the end of the movie you were certainly on a high and felt very relaxed and happy but it also put reality at the back of your head as to what it happened the world in the last 20 years
Good theatre easy to get to and comfy seats. Not many obscured seats so you are mostly okay what every seat you book. Reception area is fairly small so maybe grab a drink somewhere else if y you are too early. Best female bathrooms are upstairs as there are more stalls.
Saw "Come From Away" at this beautiful old theatre. Great venue and fabulous show. Very enjoyable evening!
Nice place, seats on the edge of being uncomfortable but beware of buying seats in the 'foo' row meaning A Row as you will get a sore neck by having to look up, luckily for us it wasn't a full house and the ticket box relocated us to much nicer viewing seats
Old theatre but our seats for Come from Away very good. Staff were friendly and so helpful.
Good experience.
Brilliant! Some really funny acts. The theather was enjoyable also - comfortable seats with good views which is always a bonus
Great atmosphere, large enough to feel like a big production but small enough to feel close to the stage wherever you are seated.
Conveniently located in Melbourne's theatre district just next to Chinatown. Saw the musical Come From Away here - fantastic!
Great show here and friendly staff. Seats can be a bit cramped but this appears to be the problem at every theatre.
Lovely intimate theatre. Convenient location with casual eateries nearby. The seats so much more comfortable now. Accommodation, parking and public transport nearby.
Brilliant venue with some fantastic stand up, went here during the Melbourne Comedy Festival to see Tom Gleeson. Absolutely fantastic. A tad crowded but staff were quick in getting people through the doors. Decent drinks.
Good seats with enough room and very good views of the stage from the upstairs dress circle area. Good bars and staff as well.
Come From Away is playing here and it's as heartwarming a musical as everyone says. Terrific visibility of the stage. Has the traditional queues for clean bathrooms. Theres a bar for pre show drinks (but no alfresco dining)
There was nothing we would fault - only praise for caring staff who happily helped my disabled sister by making sure she was fully attended to.
A true stand out in live theatre. Congratulations to the cast and the band. Absolutely loved it!
Just saw Come From Away, amazing show, great seats nice theatre. Comfortable and enough room between rows. Love the timber ceiling.
