Bahari The Hellenic Palate reviews
74 This cozy gem may be small, but it's bursting with fantastic food, a delightful atmosphere, and top-notch service.
Meeting the chef/owner, Phil, was a pleasant surprise—he actively engaged with customers and offered some fantastic food suggestions. His recommendation of the watermelon salad was spot on; it boasted an incredible blend of flavours and textures.
While every dish was impressive, the tzatziki and galaktoboureko were standouts, bringing immense joy to my taste buds. It might just be the best Greek cuisine I've savoured outside of Greece.
With so many tempting options left to try, a return visit is a must—I'm eager to explore the other enticing dishes on the menu.
A new favourite for sure! Great service - a few order mix ups, but were resolved quickly and no issues.
Everything was delicious and I can’t wait to go back! The watermelon and feta salad was a highlight.
Bahari is my regular go-to for a Greek food in Melbourne. Cozy venue, fantastic food and great service!
The atmosphere is amazing and the service was not bad. The food was great, I particularly enjoy the kataifi prawn with aioli sauce. The salad was average and so was the halloumi cigars. The lamb was good but it would have been perfect if not because it was overly salted.
I have visited Bahari in 2016 and 2018 previously. This is my third visit and unfortunately some dishes did not hit the mark. The overall impression was that the food was quite salty - particularly the whitebait and calamari. The pork skewer was really tough and my elderly parents struggled to chew - eventually they passed them to me.
There were some highlights - the chicken skewer and pita bread+dips were delicious, and service was friendly. But for the price we paid ($180 for 4 people - no alcohol), the overall experience wasn’t as great as my previous visits.
Came to Bahari tonight for my birthday dinner and it did not disappoint. We had the $65 banquet and everything was delicious. The food was great and seated upstairs, the ambience of the room was cool and moody with soft lighting and great music. The roast lamb shoulder was a highlight of the meal. Melt in your mouth, fall off the bone meat, could eat that forever. Will definitely be coming back here and recommending to friends and family. Thank you for the excellent service, Bahari Team.
A cute little place with delicious food and great atmosphere.try it and you'll love it
We celebrated my cousins birthday here last night, the food was absolutely remarkable! The banquet style dinner was truly worth money being spent, however the seating time of 2 hours felt rushed given the amount of food we were given, we would have preferred to have more time to enjoy our food properly. Other than that, it's a wonderful place for authentic Greek food!
Truly authentic and delicious Greek cuisine, with generous portions.
Staff were attentive and engaging which added to the very enjoyable evening.
Overall, probably the best Greek food in Australia. A unique and perfect mix between taverna style Greek food (which typically lacks finesse) and high end greek (typically small portions and too far removed from what Greek food is). Service was impeccable and made you feel at home. Will be back many more times.
Great food. I understand Christmas season is busy and they have to adhere to a schedule but a warning about this would be good. Staff without warning put the bill on the table and said we had 5 minutes to pay and go! Would have been nice to get a 15 min warning so we could have ordered desert or coffee
Tasty and filling. We ordered individual main dishes, but in hindsight they were better suited to sharing. The lamb shoulder was a highlight.
Regrettably the octopus and goat menu items were unavailable when we visited.
Incredible food! In fact probably the best that I can remember. Phil is a lovely man, just like his food.
Travelled from Sydney to Melbourne for the weekend & booked Bahari for dinner would have to be one of the best restaurants we have had dinner at from all the staff, food, service & atmosphere made us feel welcomed we will definitely be coming back again
The best tzatziki I have had at a restaurant! Great Greek salad, lamb was delicious. New favourite
We were a table of 14 and the staff at Bahari looked after us very well.
I'd been before a couple of years ago and hoped the food was going to be as great as I remembered. I was stoked to see that it really was!
Bahari's food is EXCEPTIONAL!
We had a banquet because we were so many.
The taramà was silky, the saganaki cheese was cooked to golden-brown perfection, the chicken skewers and the lamb shoulder were both wonderfully tender and juicy, and the sheftaliès were to-die-for!
If you like Greek/Cypriot food, and warm and friendly service, you're going to love Bahari!
It's great to see a small business that has worked hard to "get it right".
Thanks, team Bahari.
Love your work.

Our Greek friend took us here. The food was delicious but could be a bit more generous in portions. The service was great, attentive. We had several dishes to share and a bottle of wine, the bill came to $256 for four people.
Had a lovely evening at Bahari, the food was delicious and generous, and the staff were all lovely. Overall a very warm and welcoming restaurant, we can’t wait to go back. Efcharisto!
What a rude manager, food is mediocre.manager didn't hesitate to tell you off, and hastily kick you out when the time almost up.the manager definitely destroy the restaurant's reputation.highly not recommended.
