The food are amazing, they keep the oriental taste to the next level. The service is all good, the service was really pleasant. Approved by indonesian people

First time trying last year when I first arrive in Melbourne, the rumour was true. This is the best indo food in town! Must try!

Amazing! So spicy! Food is good. Only thing I would suggest is the desserts can be improve! I feel the cendol green element is too soft. Or overcooked?

Unfortunately it was perhaps one of their busiest day that our orders were taken incorrectly and thus served with missing items. It's also a bit weird telling there is no toilet but so many strangers went behind the shop to go what I can only assume is toilet.

An Indonesian restaurant serving Javanese " Penyet" (smashed) dishes.

The slow cooked beef ribs is the outstanding dish for me - the beef ribs is smoky and tender.
Despite its name - the bebek penyet (smashed duck) comes whole in one piece - its crispy but a little dry - so, not too sure how being smashed adds anything to the flavor of the dish. Actually the whole dish is somewhat dry - tofu, tempeh, fried bits, bebek - which is saved by the fiery sambal condiment.

Note that the menu prices does not include rice, which is extra.

The Gado Gado, advertised as a fruit salad is a misnomer and the version here disappoints - it is a salad dish of potatoes, eggs, bits of vegetables dressed in a weak, wet "peanuty" sauce, buried under a mountain of crackers.

In my humble opinion, I can say that this place is one of the authentic indonesian food we have here in Melbourne. Specially the “ayam penyet” with “sambal”. That menu is really recommended! Every time I came to visit, I always order that menu with extra rice obviously lol!
I will always come back to this restaurant.

I am not Indonesian, not sure it is authentic or not. BUT it is really delicious. Sometimes I drove 1 hour to south melbourne, just to have it.

Their smashed beef (empal penyet) is to die for. Now with their restaurant newly refurbished, is much better environment and seat much more inside.

The smashed beef was pretty good. The chilli sambal is nice and spicy. The menu is a little tricky and could be laid out better

Just like the memories of Ayam Penyet in Singapore and Indonesia.

Soups were very tasty and sambal was great!

Came here regularly, the food was good but the service was awfully poor. This dude was showing attitude while serving the food.

If you miss ayam penyet in Melbourne, this is the restaurant to visit. I must say the chilli was quite spicy but it was satisfying. The chicken was super crispy and tender.

I tried their chocolate cheese martabak and it was pretty good too. If you happen to be in South Melbourne and want to eat ayam penyet or Indonesian foods, you need to consider this place.

Sambalhere is the bomb however I gave four stars because the Ayam penyet was dry and not freshly fried when I had it, would suggest getting the ribs instead of the chicken.

The smashed ribs are amazing. Seek this place out for a delicious although seriously spicy, cheap lunch.

I love the smashed ribs menu. The combination of spicy Indonesian sambal chilli and Australian beef ribs was so great. The taste of the fried tempe was also authentic. They really cured my homesickness.
