Australian Rainbow Trout Farm reviews
76Good place to kill a few hours and fish, although watch the number of fish you hook up because you can't catch and release at this joint. Once you've hooked up, you must purchase your catch (2 salmon, 2 trout was roughly AUD160 on top of the entrance fee). The challenge pond is a good place to start but when we were there we fished it for 2 hours with no luck. We then moved to the salmon and trout ponds and caught fish way too easily. The rods weren't in very good condition and you can't really cast into the easier ponds. If you have your own light rod/reel combo, I suggest you bring it along. The farm gut and sashimi your catch for you but subjectively, I would just stick to the trout which was delicious, baked. Salmon wasn't great.
An amazing way to introduce fishing to kids. Very well maintained. Heaps of BBQ available, plenty of space for kids to run around, playground is a bit aged but still in good and safe condition. The ponds are separated to varieties and weights. So if you prefer to catch a smaller/larger fish those options are readily available. Service was friendly and helpful. Would not hesitate to return. Very enjoyable experience.
Go there at least every year to catch Xmas Eve dinner, always fun staff are very friendly and helpful. You can watch them clean your fish and tastes incredible. We will keep coming back every year and always recommend it to others
The best go every Year for my Christmas Salmon for the last 30 Years now my Grandsons take me I have taken them when they were little
We use got this place near 10years to fish & good Trout & Salmon. But dispointed with the place & No Salmon that day. The price since from $5 to now $12…
But the Facilicy. & accessories & toilet was all OLD…need to upgrade…exspecially the the BBQ pits was all rusty & old…
The place will be really nice if it’s upgraded abit, change of benches, redo the toilet. & the animal are all grewup already…also the Trout & Salmon are expensive….
Sorry to said… But the place are Cosy.
Great place for fishing. Fish sizes starts from 400gm. You must buy the fish you catch. Free basic cleaning is available. Lots of bbq stoves available with covered shelter. You can bring your own mat or umbrella to have a picnic. Kids friendly and has a small playground.
$12 adult entry
Fishes weighed per kg depending on type (see website for detail)
Fillet additional $5/fish
Sashimi additional $7/fish
Fish pond has plenty of helpers to help you get your fish up. Though they lack knowledge on fishes. SUPER easy to catch. If intending to only get fish -> can get in and back into your car within 15 mins (probably not worth a $12 entry fee)
Basic cooking items in kiosk. Playground for kids. Would recommend if trying to find a good spot which can entertain everyone for the day.
Very good experience for those who are looking for a quick fish. Fishes are divided into ponds depending on breed and size. Staffs are very helpful and friendly. You can also use the on-site bbq facilities to cook the freshly caught fish. Wash basin available to hose down your hands after the catch. Our family had an excellent afternoon at the fish farm. Highly recommended and will visit again:)
What a great day out kids had so much fun catching fish and enjoying themselves on the playground. We definitely will be back
Nice place! All 6 of us, ages ranging from 6 to 60s, had fun on the farm. Easy to get to, coming from Melbourne. Staff are really helpful and friendly. Only reason I did not give a 5 star review is the ponds are very easy to catch a fish, and then there is the lake where its very hard to catch a fish; would be good to have something in-between to keep it fun.
The good:
_The rainbow trouts are tasty, both golden and black.
_Well divided sections - dedicated ponds for specific breeds and specifications, such as 1-4kg salmon, or 400-700g trouts.
_Toilet have hand soap and Dyson hand dryer.
_Chickens going around, probably some extra kfc besides you salmon fillet.
The bad:
_Old, worn out, dirty facilities.
_Pricing more expensive than market fresh.
_Too crowed, and most visitors and big families, so it’s noisy.
_Lack of shaded parking lot.
_Ponds too small. Fish can be caught just within 5 seconds of releasing the rod, and throwing the rod can go across 2 ponds for real.
_Helpful, but not too enthusiastic staffs. But I would be bored if I were them too, cannot blame!
If you don’t like places where big families come and make noise, I would not recommend this place. If you’re only come for the fish then it should be good.
We had a great fishing experience here. You are sure to catch a fish here. They have multiple ponds full of fish. Plenty of barbecues as well
Fishing is an experience. Cooperative staff. They will clean the fish we catch so we can bbq at there. Is an ideal place for one day picnic with family and friends
Some big Trout there, they will do all the gutting etc. Nice, picnic area with a play area and Dinosaurs.chooks and other birds near the entrance. Well set up.
Family-friendly, we enjoyed the experience, caught lots of salmons. My kids had fun. Friendly staff. Will definitely visit the farm again.
Big space, friendly staff, lots of fishes. Nice environment with playground, hens and birds, BBQ facilities and picnic area, perfect for family gathering!
What an awesome place to take the kids. Playground is huge and fun. Heaps of tables (40approx) with bbqs seating probably from 6-12 people per each table. Chickens Ducks Geese Turkeys plus one dog roaming around. Will be back for sure. Thank you for the great day. Also the girls (2/4) caught their first fish
This was first visit and it was really good. I took my partner and her son (he's 5 years old) He got to catch his first fish and it was an Atlantic Salmon. There are also Rainbow and Golden trout in separate ponds but we didn't fish for those, might do that next time.
We caught 3 in very quick time, no waiting around for ages for a bite. It literally took 5 seconds after hitting the water to hook up. We could have caught many more but you must purchase what you catch and 3 was enough for us.
There are many BBQ's available for use on site, so a great place to have lunch. There is also a playground for kids to play on. If you haven't been I recommend checking it out.
My son loved this place, a great family day out. Place has a playground and you can cook fish at the venue to eat for lunch while the kids play. I loved when I went to the bathroom and found a chicken hanging around in there. Gave me a good chuckle. (The toliet block is outdoors and has large gaps, the chicken was not trapped)
The thing is it's not fishing you drop your line in the pond and within seconds it's fish on, And you are not aloud to release it you pay for it to be cleaned four fish between five of us $135.0But great day
