The Duke reviews
76The service here is top class. The food is superb, huge portions, an excellent gastropub. Highly recommend.
Place has friendly staff and good service. Food was good and offered a nice quaint place to sip some drinks.
I've been to three birthday parties here! Function room is beautiful (not wheelchair accessible). Bar staff are great and owner seems nice:)
We have now been here for quite a few private functions, as well as ‘normal’ meals and I can honestly say they never fail to impress.both in service and food standard etc.they always are happy, and the food is always top quality.
Attended for a quiz. Lost, but still a good night. Food came out pretty quickly and tasted great too.
Great steak and I had the mulled wine, it was lovely on a cold Hobart night, the waitress was really great.
The proprietors of The Duke are amazing people and have put themselves out time and again to accommodate us and our needs and to make us feel welcome. High quality food and general down too earth goodness. Do yourself a favour and check them out if you haven't already.
What a good honest pub meal. I had the scotch and my mum had the lamb and my husband the pizzaThen we shared the dessert special! Aboslutley lovely and the service was impeccable!
The food was stellar, as was the service. In winter I recommend the table right next to the fire, exceptionally cost.
It was good but all the hydro employees go there, and they're all idiots and they ruin the feel of the place because they waltz around like they own it.
Very attentive staff that were eager to have a bit of a chat with us. The meals were delicious and great prices on their drinks.
A warm, friendly pub with a lovely owner who seems genuinely interested in supporting local musicians. We need more places like this.
Have you spoken to Doug yet? If you're here in Hobart and walked into Duke's you better tell Doug what you're doing and he'll share the local knowledge. The food is amazing. Everyone that works is friendly and helpful. Great live music too
Perfect service and great knowledge of local spirits passed on in a delightful manner by Doug and his 9 staff, on a Tuesday! Local business success story due to perfect preparation and 5 star service. Thank you to all for making us feel so welcome in your top shelf corner pub. Jamie and I will be back.
I recently moved to Hobart and grateful that I found the duke. If you are visiting Hobart, The Duke is a must for those who are looking to avoid the tourist traps and experience the city as a local. As you walk in, you are greeted with a warm familiar feeling emitting from every corner. Noticeably, the staff takes pride in where they work, and is apparent through the attentive, polite, and friendly service provided. The menu has thoughtful range with something for everyone. Be sure to look at the specials that change daily. Cooked with expertise and care, the food is fresh, local, and delicious. I have trouble understanding how the reasonable prices can provide the absolute upscale quality and portions brought to the table, (I almost feel guilty but not enough that I don’t take advantage of it). Personally, the woodfire pizzas, that always come out perfect (not burnt as I find too often at other restaurants) and a few filled to the rim cold draft Boags are the perfect warm up to the brilliant live music. While so many places in Hobart routinely feature cover bands or a single acoustic guitar The Duke stands out as one of the few places where you can find a range of great unique original music. Local blues and jazz can be called their specialty, but it is also the spot to see the latest musicians express and impress with their incredible talents. I could keep going on, but I am heading up there shortly for my partners birthday. So Ill just say it would be a shame to deny yourself a visit to this special place.
