The Duke reviews
76Great vibes, awesome delicious food and good portion size. Waited a little while for it come out but staff apologized and told is it was worth the wait and they weren’t wrong.
A delicious meal, friendly attentive staff and absolutely amazing music. Thanks for a great night out.
A surprise gem in the heart of Hobart. Visited with my elderly father and chosen initially for proximity but was incredibly blown away by the meals, the service and the kindness of the owners. Dad is still raving about the crumbed Tassie scallops. If you’re after a hearty meal and a casual but comfortable atmosphere, this place is a must-do!
We went in, it was completely empty, had us worried.
But staff where great, and the food and drink where amazing, defiantly recommending to friends.
When we walked into the Duke, it was empty and quiet. Initially, we were cautious and thought if its empty, there's a reason for that.
To our surprise, the food was great, the service was abundant, and the gentleman, Doug, gave us loads of suggestions for touring around the southern corner of Tasmania. There was live piano tonight, but a band is set to play for Friday.
Would highly suggest any travellers passing through the area, interested in knowing the sites to see in Hobart:)
Wonderful atmosphere. Great to see, again, that the Lease are trying to make it with integrity and fighting against the immorality of ' The Pokies'
Doug and Katika, You are inspiring leaders in this community and I hope the support builds.
Rachel, Gary, PA, Richard and our kids and grandkids. Find regards to your boys also.
Tidings of comfort and joy. Peace and goodwill to all humanity️️
Honestly was a bit apprehensive when walking in and thought I’d made a mistake but decided to give it a try. OMG the food was amazing, definitely a pleasant surprise. Hearty, delicious and good portion size. Waited a little while for it come out but staff apologised and told is it was worth the wait and they weren’t wrong. Lovely open fire to greet you in the cold Tassie winter
Had pulled lamb on pumpkin mash with fresh green beans cooked whole beetroots with a raspberry juz and sprouts. I love my food and this meal was sensational. My compliments and we'll be back.
Publican is a delight esp. 4 globally conscious people who enjoy raising awareness. Gr8 food and music.historical establishment.
Lovely place, but there is one server who is really quite unfriendly. I hope it's just a bad day that I've caught him on. The rest of the staff seem lovely and care about customer satisfaction. Food was excellent, humongous portions and at a great price too. Hopefully I catch the Duke on a better day!
Very friendly staff and a good-quality menu is always a winning combination. Nice choice of Tassie beers too.
The Duke, is a great place, Inside a city with little real entertainment, The Duke is a real equal to Sydney's basement for blues and great live singing. Good food as well, Go and enjoy See the Duke
We were only in Hobart three nights, and we spent two of them having dinner at The Duke. (The first night we hadn't discovered it yet!) Relaxed, casual pub atmosphere with outstanding food. Be sure to try the chicken breast (skin on) with a creamy leek sauce and sweet potato mash. Amazing! The other dishes are yummy too!
Great meals with friendly staff all done at a reasonable price. If your in Hobart give it a go you won't be disappointed.
Held my birthday party in the private function room upstairs, had a blast and my guests had a great time. However A few complaints from my guests notice the rudeness and unprofessionalism by the ownerof the duke of wellington pub. The owner treated his 17 year old bartender horribly in front of my guests, who did an amazing job handing the bar on his own and got told off for the littlest things and abusing him. To the point where my friend who decided to go up to the owner and discuss his views on how he treated his staff mmember. After thr conversation with the owner the next day, he did admit his faults and was very stressed that night and apologised to his staff member.
I'd love to be more kind, but sadly the place has lost its appeal for me. The previous owner was more congenial, understood customer service much better. The quality of the food is a big letdown. Lunches one year apart proved to be equally disappointing. It's a great CBD location and has a ton of potential, but still a way to go to get there, I'm afraid.
From Victoria on working holiday, great friendly service and yummy food, chilled vibes. Was good even for our 3 kids. If you are looking for food and ur local deffinately go here.
Pizza was a little burnt. Room was cold. Sounded like a dance floor was above us. Staff were friendly.
Great venue would recommend highly, staff very friendly food and service first class, we had a fun night.
Great food, awesome staff, best meal we have had in Hobart. Watch out for the lad from Brisbane, or was it Ireland, or Sth Africa, or Russia brilliant lad.
