68Kind staff, tried to re-do our steaks, however still overcooked to the point our steaks were white. They offered a refund but still, waste of food. The dessert was so-so. The staff tried their best though. Would not recommend sadly.
A bit pretentious. I mean the food (fries and sweet potato wedges) was lovely but when I asked for two large hot chocolates the guy said he couldn’t give me large because they were using the mugs for the mulled wine (which obviously are twice the price of a hot choc) and they didn’t have enough mugs. I insisted that I wanted a large and not the puny little cups he was offering as it was cold, we had just been hiking for 3 hours in the 5 degree weather. He said reluctantly ok: serious it wasn’t like I wasn’t paying for the large and he made it sound like he was doing me a favour. And if you are having mulled wine, get in more mugs for the occasion. You are a big organisation with lots of people coming thru and you are charging exorbitant price for it. So apart from that service, it was nice sitting there in the warmth with our ‘large’ hot chocs but I think I will get it from the visitors centre cafe next time. Much friendlier service.
We ate at the Tavern and Bistro twice during our weekend getaway. Both times the team were super friendly and meals delicious. Pizza was good for a pub, and the parmigiana was just right. Soup of the day was cauliflower and potato and came with a toasted roll. It was absolutely perfect for a cold mid winters day. Side servings of chips/Wedges were huge compared to other pubs, which was surprising.
The Venue is split over multiple levels, which makes the whole venue feel much cozier than it would if it were all on the same level. There's a wood fire in the middle, which sits on a large stone hearth, perfect for sitting on whilst waiting for your meal to arrive.
We also received a generous discount on our account for being All Accor members, which was a truly pleasant surprise. We will definitely be returning in the future.
Coming here after the end of a hike was an excellent choice. The pizzas were fresh and tasty, the carbonara was rich and creamy without being too oily. The sweet potato wedges were the best we've ever had that we came back the next day for them!
The best value place to eat in the town. Most other hotels all had expensive restaurants with only 4 or 5 things in the menu. The Tavern had a decent section and quite high prices, but at least there was a selection.
Paid $40 for a very overcooked steak. Asked for rare and it came out well done (and slightly burnt) also $15 for a pint of moo brew is ridiculous. Nice view of the wildlife and that's about it!
So beautiful sipping mulled wine in front of the open fire. Its such a bonus that there are beautiful walks nearby
Nice place for a bite, food was hearty and generous. Bit on the cold side unless you where close to the fire.
We went to the Tavern for lunch, twice in 3 days. We had a pizza on our first visit and it was wonderful. Crispy base, perfect amount of toppings and lovely sauce. We don't often order pizza as we find it's generally disappointing. The pizza was so good, that we came back again to have another (these are the only 2 pizzas we've had in 18months), and the same pizza was soggy, lacking topping and sauce to base ratio was off. If we'd had the second pizza the first time, we certainly would not have come back. Atmosphere is lovely with huge wood fires to warm you up after being out in the snow and rain, service is quick, and other food we had including soup and buffalo wings were all perfectly fine. I would go back, but wouldn't order a pizza.
We rang the Reception number and ended up in a phone queue supposedly. After 15 minutes, we gave up and physically went there to find three people at Reception clearly not answering the phone (we rang the number from within the venue to test it). So that wasn’t a good start. The food was enjoyable though and the bar/meal serving staff were very capable and friendly.
Looks great after the refurb, nice and cosy, just need to fix the slamming Exit door as it's horrendous for those sitting in the cosy chairs by the fire
Great alternative to Highlands, better too.
Pumpkin soup was great with a hint is spice.
Steak was perfectly cooked (med rare)
Seafood marinara was fantastic, not too rich or too sour, with a nice spicy kick to it.
Great service and atmosphere on top too.
Well done guys, thanks for a good night.
Fabulous food and service. Went in as a group of 11 with no booking which was no problem, were catered for very promptly. Staff were fantastic.
All class and no flavor from the cafe. The hot chocolate felt as if the cocoa powder was an afterthought for lukewarm water.
Seafood marinara was excessively salty and the the dessert was forgotten (1 hour+ wait).
Otherwise overpriced what the food items are.
After walking around outside for a couple of hours we needed to warm up. Ordered tea with cheesecake. Stunning plate arrived with cheesecake berry coulis vanilla ice cream nut brittle AND fresh strawberries. OMG this was so good
Prices possibly a bit high for what it is, even for the location. Child's menu especially, the children's pizza is half a pizza for $14 but the full pizza price for the same pizza is $19. It also came smothered in chopped parsley, not something a kids Hawaiian pizza really needs.
The meals were delivered to the table quickly. The seafood pasta was a hit. The kids pasta was also tasty, however the poterhouse steak really was quite tough, should of gone with the plain chicken schnitzel!
We decided we would buy a pizza as take away for our son at home. We were advised it would be 10minutes or so, we waited for over half an hour. The pizza was a huge disappointment. We paid $26 and it really wasn't worth the price or the wait.
The new menu has very little option, there is something for everyone but its not very interesting.
The renovations are great and the staff were friendly.
This place was under construction when we went, so I'm sure it's better when it's not but there were very few seats and a limited menu. It's also hard to locate.
Pretty average. Not a lot in the area, about as expected. Underwhelming over priced. With nothing around had to go. If more than one night in the area, get food from another town and cook your own.
