Tavern Bar & Bistro reviews
68 There's not al lot of places to go in Cradle Mountain, but got a table straight away. Food was pretty good although we had a garlic & cheese pizza which was pretty heavy on the garlic, so perhaps ask for less garlic if you're planning on talking to anyone later in the day. Everything else we ordered was pretty spot on though.
Ordering food / drinks took quite a while, perhaps they were slightly understaffed. But there was quite often a queue trailing through the bar with people waiting to order food/drinks.
Great wine, fries and pizza! Warm and beautiful ambience. Although the pizza could've been better. Highly recommend this restaurant around cradle mountain
Food was good, but the order was wrong, the waiter barely understood english and the food was ungodly expensive.
Your kind of stuck to tapping this place up for lunch and they know it. Palmy $36 shocking service was slow and uninviting. Food was just ok. A coffee, kids hot milk and a hot chocolate took 20 min to be made. The place is a joke and not worth the money in any way.
Ordered soup of the day that was advertised as pumpkin and sweet potato.
After a 45 minute wait the soup that was brought out was clearly not pumpkin and sweet potato, even though the table next to us ordered the same thing and theirs WAS pumpkin and sweet potato. When I asked if the waitress could clarify with the kitchen, she was reluctant but came back to tell me that pumpkin and sweet potato soup had run out and it was now broccoli and cauliflower, despite the soup of the day board still reading pumpkin and sweet potato.
Instead of apologising and asking if I'd like something else, the waitress just stood there and asked if that soup was ok. I told her it's not what I ordered, and she awkwardly just waited for me to accept it before walking away.
On top of all that, the broccoli and cauliflower soup was average at best. It ruined a dinner after a long afternoon hike.
All good, food was great.
Got a bone in the salmon, which is always a no-no. Hot chocolates we got were both cold.
Apart from that great!
Where to start…. Many menu items not available not informed until we went to order. Food was of a par level standard but for the premium you pay you would expect better. The duck fat potatoes were not as described. The steak was requested medium rare but was under cooked. So was the pizza - the garlic flat bread was overpowering. The deserts were delayed and small portions. They were delivered without cutlery. Staff were inattentive. Maybe it was an unexpectedly busy night in ‘low’ season but overall a very dissatisfying experience.
It's one of the few restaurants near the cradle mountain area and they know it so their prices are way too high and the quality and choices for food aren't anything special for the price.
We decided to only get the soup of the day (which was really yummy) but nothing else and it was too expensive.
The service was not the best nor the worst. It was hard to get the workers attention but it has a nice fire place.
Overall, I wanted to just go back to Hellyers and eat better food for cheaper.
Fantastic ambience, exactly what we needed to walk into after our hike.
Great range of drinks, mulled wine was a nice touch. Myself and my two companions loved the food. So much so we ordered seconds!
Pretty much the only decent restaurant on cradle mountain. Came during weird times 2: 30 on and 5: 30 pm and it was super easy to get a table with plenty of spare seats. The fireplace is a nice plus and the restaurant has been remodeled since years ago. Pizza lovers you might need to readjust your expectations as it was a bit average with a bit more work to be done in the pizza base.
What a great place. Big roaring fire, huge big screen to watch AFL, fantastic food and the most amazing staff. Highly recommend even when really busy and you have to wait a little for a table.
Fairly basic pub food with the Cradle Mountain Tax added so everything is expensive. Still, food is nice, fresh and service is efficient. Good place to stop after a big hike.
Loved our burgers by the fire place. We came to visit at the end of summer, but the weather decided to give us some winter and the fireplace was going. After a 2 hour walk in freezing cold around the Dove Lake I was very happy to sit by the fire!
The next day had a soup of the day and it was very nice too. I also asked for my hot chocolate half strength so it's not too sweet and it was spot on
Loved the food, loved the service and the ambience, highly recommend
Good food, nice ambience, spoiled by poor service.
Our order took 30 minutes to arrive (We walked in at the peak lunch time) I asked the front counter guy with a beard if this is normal. He said sometimes it takes 1.5 hours! He was however kind enough to get out of the counter and walk to the kitchen and bring our food which was waiting there, ready to be served. All this time the kids who are supposedly serving were busy walking around, serving orders which clearly came in after our order.
We had steak, lamb cutlets and Thai salad with tofu. Everything was perfectly cooked and tasted good, except that the steak came in well done instead of medium rare which I ordered. Honestly I didn’t mind that since I was so hungry after the cradle mountain climb.
This restaurant lacks leadership. There has to be someone on the floor coordinating everything and that person was missing.
Not many choices apart from the Tavern on the mountain but nice meals for a night out. Just don’t expect them to come out anytime soon on a weekend.
First visit to the tavern. Ordering food was easy and service was really good. The staff is super friendly. The food was fantastic but maybe a bit pricey.
Waited for almost 2 hours before the food arrived. Lot of the people who came after us got their orders.
Their battered fish & chips were pretty good and the wife was more than happy with the pasta carbonara she ordered so overall very satisfied!
The food was good, most staff was good but while having dinner our bub started having tantrums and could not make her stop crying. Probably crying atleast 5 mins. One staff member approached us and told us to make our baby stop crying (a 20 month old toddler!). Not even apologizing or providing us with any assistance. Making us feel that we need to pack it up and go in the middle of dinner. Maybe he thinks you just take the baby's batteries off to make them stop crying. Lost my appetite in the process.
One of the few places in cradle mountain to eat, the Tavern was quite busy when we visited for dinner. Bar service was pretty slow and the food service even worse. We ordered two pizzas on two different numbers one after the other. First pizza came out within 2 minutes, second pizza we waited over 20 minutes for. It had obviously been forgotten though no apology offered when it arrived. They tasted okay, dough was quite thin and tough. I couldn’t recommend the tavern for anything more than a beer.
