Swinging Gate Vineyard

This was my first ever wine tasting. We tried other vineyards but they were too full/busy and we were turned away. Then we happened upon this place which I'm so glad we did. I'd never liked white wine but came away from this tasting with a completely different opinion!
Doug really took the time to explain about the wines and patiently answered all my questions. He even gave us a couple of extra tastings. You could tell it was a passion project for him.
The setting was lovely. We were sat at a table and Doug came over with the wine at intervals so it didn't feel rushed. At other tastings I came to appreciate how special Doug's service and attention were. All the staff here were very friendly and welcoming.
I learnt so much about wine and the visit was one of the highlights of my Tasmania trip. Now I'm a wine enthusiast!
Unfortunately we could only buy 1 bottle of wine as we were flying to NZ.

Had the loveliest visit to The Swinging Gate over the weekend. The service was fantastic - very friendly and also patient with all my questions. The wines were also fantastic. It was the only winery we visited in the Tamar Valley based on its great reviews and it met all our expectation's

Four of us were here on 18/9 and what a memorable experience. As a group we love vineyards and swinging gate is definitely a stand out. The charm, rustic feeling of the place as well as the good wine. Everything remains boutique, family involved as well as the love and pride in Doug discussing it with us. We were all impressed and our friends visiting from Sydney thought this place was the highlight of the Tamar. Thanks so much Doug for the experience and tour of the place it was amazing.

We had a wonderful experience at the vineyard with our amazing host Doug. We really enjoyed the wines, the atmosphere and the dog.
The igloos look great for accommodations.

A family owned vineyard with honestly out of this world wine! Top notch.

Wonderful wines, fantastic scenery and a terrific tasting experience with the owner. We walked away with smiles on our faces and a dozen ordered. Opened a bottle of the sauv Blanc for friends last night who were blown away and off to order some for themselves.

Visited for the first time on Saturday afternoon with wife and son.
Enjoyed a wine tasting with a difference.
Doug was delightful and educated us on all the distinctive, individual wines which were savoured by each of us.
I truly appreciated that each taste was so different from the other.
I asked many questions and received an informative, friendly response which offered more than I expected.
We all enjoyed the experience and purchased bottles to enjoy at a later date.
We will all definitely return and hope that a food option will be available to enable us to enjoy the beautiful wines along with a meal.

A fantastic vineyard with a great selection of wines. The owner is very knowledgable and was lovely to chat it. A wonderful view too.

Interesting and good quality wines presenting across a broad cross section of grape varieties and styles.

Also give their minimal intervention (natural) wines a go - if that suits your fancy!

All the wines are fantastic, staff are lovely and the views are spectacular. Definitely place this winery at the top of your to do list when exploring this region. Thanks again!

Our 2nd visit. Definitely one of our favourite wineries in Tasmania! Relaxed atmosphere, interesting and tasty wines. Doug and his wife are friendly, knowledgeable and generous. We’ll be back for sure!

Pros - amazing atmosphere and beautiful grounds
Cons - the service - slow and our young server was very unfriendly. Even when we thanked her and wished her a good day, she said nothing back.
Cannot recommend.

One of the best wine tasting experiences we've ever had. Thank you to Doug for answering all of our questions with patience and sharing some of your vast knowledge with us! Your wines were incredible. Although we had lunch plans already, the food truck out front looked to be serving some delicious food. Truly a "must visit"!
